30 years? How is that possible? Recap last day at Disney (8/14)

I just noticed you were doing a PTR. I am now all caught up. :thumbsup2

Your trip sounds lovely so far. I will have say that I vowed to never return to Disney in August after we melted in the August heat in 2010. :faint: Alas, my oldest DS birthday is August 16 and he is begging to go to Disney for his birthday. I am thinking about next year when he turns 12. His birthday falls on a Saturday in 2014, so I am thinking we might be able to get a whirlwind weekend trip in....really late flight on Friday the 15th, spend his birthday doing his favorite park (MK) and fly home Sunday evening. Crazy plan, but worth it to surprise him for his birthday.

Love the pics you shared! Looks like a fun day planned :) Now... what was that breakfast? An omelet?

I was going to ask what that drink was but someone chimed in so it's a Turtle Krawl. Do they only serve them at OKW? Looks refreshing! (I looked up the recipe and I see a lot of rum!!) :faint:

A chill day at the pool sounds wonderful!

Looks like a great relazing day! I thought this was the afternoon we were meeting up at the Poly with Suzi? But maybe I am mistaken? Regardless - it looks like a fantastic day off! :)

D~

Since there are rumors about The Osborne Lights moving to Epcot, I can't help but wonder if maybe that's the plan for at least part of the plan for The Imagination Pavilion.....

I will be sure to ride it several times...even if I have to go by myself. :thumbsup2
Make sure you take notes and let us know how many times you have to ride before you're immune to the skunk smell.

Where I may or may not do some laundry
Laundry is right by the pool? Hmmm... that's convenient. :thumbsup2

(Beaches and Cream)
You really, really like this place, don't you? I'm really going to try to work in a night or 2 at BC so that we'll finally be right there and have no excuse not to go.

Where I will have one or two of these wonderful drinks that MEK told me about
Looks kind of like a hurricane???:confused3

Guess what friends?

We're going to Disney this month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3:

mmmmm, Turtle Krawls. I could use a couple right now! One of the many reasons I love OKW.

Jill in CO

Those Turtle Krawls are A huge reason I love OKW too. :)

A nice relaxing day for sure!

At our age, we need one of those every once in awhile. ;)

I just noticed you were doing a PTR. I am now all caught up. :thumbsup2

:wave2:; thank you for joining. So far I've been successful in doing both my PTR and my TR at the same time. Luckily, I am almost done with both of them because I'm beginning to confuse myself. :rotfl2:

I'm not crazy about the August thing (although we've gone late August before), but we really wanted one more use out of the FP's and September wouldn't work before they expired because of my husband's work.

That would be an awesome surprise for you son, and exhausting for you.

Love the pics you shared! Looks like a fun day planned :) Now... what was that breakfast? An omelet?

Thanks, Ann. Yes, that was their cheese omelet and it was pretty darn good.

I was going to ask what that drink was but someone chimed in so it's a Turtle Krawl. Do they only serve them at OKW? Looks refreshing! (I looked up the recipe and I see a lot of rum!!) :faint:

Brenda, I consider those Turtle Krawls "heaven in a glass"...so good.

A chill day at the pool sounds wonderful!

I think it will be hot enough, don't you?

I thought Suzi told me the day we were doing dinner at Ohana? We will have to all talk via message on FB and figure it out. Maybe we can come to the Poly before we head to DTD?

Since there are rumors about The Osborne Lights moving to Epcot, I can't help but wonder if maybe that's the plan for at least part of the plan for The Imagination Pavilion.....

I've heard those rumors too. I don't want them to get rid of Figment OR the Osborne Lights.

Make sure you take notes and let us know how many times you have to ride before you're immune to the skunk smell.

I usually hold my nose. :lmao::lmao:

Laundry is right by the pool? Hmmm... that's convenient. :thumbsup2

Very convenient; and when staying at DVC, it's free. :)

You really, really like this place, don't you? I'm really going to try to work in a night or 2 at BC so that we'll finally be right there and have no excuse not to go.

One of the BEST burgers I have ever had, great theme, and the ice cream is awesome!

Looks kind of like a hurricane???:confused3

Not sure what a hurricane is. This is called a Turtle Krawl and they will hit you fast if you haven't eaten prior to indulging.

Thank you, Steph.

So it's now Thursday, August 22. And I know going in that this is going to be a tough day. This day marks the 5th anniversary of losing my Dad. As many of my long time readers know, we always give a balloon to a child in memory of my dad because of his fondness in giving them to my boys when we went to the zoo, circus, whatever. So normally we would be doing this tomorrow, August 23, as we will still be here. But I have decided to do this on the actual anniversary this year. And I've also forewarned Mark that he might have to say the words for me as I might just get a tad emotional.

Anyway, we are obviously headed here since this is where we always give the balloon away:

Today is an EMH's morning at the MK which we love. We can usually get ALL of Fantasyland done within that first hour. I want to stop and get a Starbucks, and then we'll head to a few favorites:

Probably do this for Mark :headache:

We'll probably hit up the Little Mermaid ride as well, and I'm sure we'll have to do a few of these:

After we finish with Fantasyland, we usually head this way:

We will definitely do this for Mark:

And we will probably go all around the park so that we can end up back by Splash Mountain and walk over here:

Time permitting, we will hit up Pirates and the Tiki Room.

Then we have a lunch ADR at a long-time favorite of ours:

We love the Plaza and, although it is usually our last meal of the trip, our plans for our last day are a little unusual and we have to head right to Marco Island after them, so we're doing the Plaza a day early.

I'm sure I'll be having one of these:

Up next, what shall we do for the rest of the afternoon and evening?

Sounds wonderful, Kathy! The balloon is so very sweet! :)
Did you love being able to say you're going to stop at Starbucks before heading into Fantasyland? ;)
Plaza!!! Nom nom nom!

I love morning EMHs, you can get so much done in them! Definitely smart to use them in Fantasyland too, since it's a mad house in there so quickly. :scared1:

That ice cream at the Plaza looks so yummy.

 for the anniversary of your father's passing. It's a great thing that you do to honor his memory though. I'm sure every child that gets that balloon cherishes it, even if they don't understand the meaning behind it at the time. :goodvibes

I love your plans for your relaxing day.

I think it's such a sweet thing to give a balloon to a child in memory of your dad.

Finally had a few minutes to stop in and catch up on your PTR. I love everything you are doing especially all of the food! You are hitting up some of my favorite restaurants this trip, Rose and Crown, Be Our Guest, The Plaza. Definitely tell Mark to try the Scotch Egg at Rose and Crown, yummy!

Figment has now become a MUST do on our next trip. I've actually never been.

I do understand that they might need to temporarily move the Osborne lights but ugh, hope it's not permanent and am very grateful I'll get to see them once at least.

YAY for Turtle Krawls!

Sniff on the balloon. How sweet and bittersweet that will be. I'm glad you are headed to the Plaza that day, a sundae will help.

Hi Kathy ~ You have made some great plans for this vacation. It will be here before you know it.

Giving a balloon in your Dad's memory is one of the most wonderful imaginative ways I have ever heard of remembering someone.

Hope you have a good night....
Jane

I know I have said this before, but I think your tradition of giving away a balloon every year in your dad's honor is such a wonderful thing to do. I am glad you will continue it again this year. It must really make the day of some unsuspecting child.

Looks like a great day at MK! I know you have mixed emotions about changing your traditions that day, but I know they will be just as special to you! :goodvibes Anytime at the Plaza is great, and your tradition with the balloon to celebrate your Dad is always so touching!!!

Rosie, I'm exhausted just reading about your day. Get some rest, friend.
I wa soooo overtired I was punchy!!!( No comments Marv ):lmao::lmao:Oh that's right he only scours Glenn's thread anymore !!!!:rotfl2:
