Hi
I keep seeing this 30% discount going on and will be there this week. Is this discount only for direct blue card owners?
I am a resale buyer

You still will probably be able to get 30% some . I am here now and several times when I asked about DVC discount , was given the 30% and they didn't ask to see card.

I am here now and every store asked if I had any discounts. I said I was DVC but white card not blue and showed them. Everyone gave me the discounts even restaurants. I was honest and told them and no one ever said anything they smiled and applied the discount. so nice and really saved a lot of money
🤩

You don't get the discount.

CMs don't want to argue or don't know the difference.

You are either taking advantage or putting them in an awkward spot to save a couple dollars.

Do what you wish just stating my position.

... or Disney has told their CM's to give the discount regardless because it's not actually a loss to Disney.
Maybe they determined white card members spend significantly more at WDW when given the discount. IDK.

I've read multiple threads on these forums of white card members getting discounts and they weren't even trying (i.e. CM asking if they're DVC and the member stating they are white card). I have to assume Disney doesn't care.

That said, as a new to DVC white card only member, I will not be asking/fishing for the blue card discounts as it's my understanding I'm not entitled to them. However, if they ask if I'm a DVC member I will reply "yes, but I'm a white card member"... and if they give me the discount anyway then I'll happily accept it without any guilt.

CM asking if they're DVC and the member stating they are white card

Again you dont qualify for discounts.

The CMs either:
A) Don't know the difference and don't care
B) Don't want to argue with you

Disney if proactively stating resale owners should get discounts as well would actually be liable for false claims on their real estate sale. Do they maybe not care? Sure quite possible.

Again you are putting someone in an awkward position if they do know or you are taking advantage of someone who doesn't understand the requirements. That is on you though don't try to act like "eh its okay because Disney doesn't enforce it like a police state".

Want to push it that fine its on you. Same with people who pirate movies as an example.

Or Disney wants to sell merch and likes making blue card members feel special as a sales technique and really doesn’t care. “This is something that only you get because you gave us 25k. You’re so special!!!!!!”

Disney is really good at making cast members enforce their rules. If they are consistently not enforcing this one now my guess is because they don’t want to. I’m a blue card member but I don’t think any of you who aren’t and are honest and get the discount should lose a wink of sleep.

Except again they could be in fairly hot water for condoning it.

DVC is not the Parks division so there is a difference. The only reason why Disney Visa discounts are enforced is based on actually charging the card. Again you do you but don't try to pass the blame and act like Disney is approving the action.

I think it's just fair to say that the CM's are making an exception to the written rule for white card members. Whatever the reason is, I'm okay with CM's making it more magical for more people. I would just advise that everyone knows what the written rule is, that it is an exception to the rules, and don't assume that you will get a discount the next time and respond with "entitlement" if they decide to enforce the rules. There's enough magic at Disney for all of us! :drinking:

I actually think a lot of CM's just don't know the difference between the Blue Card and White Card members, and what it even means. Back before we had direct points, we were staying at Kidani and the CM at the resort store just automatically applied the DVC discount to us, since we were at a DVC resort and never even asked for a DVC membership card, much less a Blue one.

I fully agree.

Wow seems some people are really upset that people who “aren’t entitled” are getting a discount. I guess I should have insisted that the cashier take off the 30% discount and charge me full price!
heck I’m afraid I’ll be on a street corner selling pirated movies soon!

I think it's not quite as black and white as you make it sound. I know for a fact that not all cast members fit into one of your two options. I was there in the late summer/fall and had not even gotten my membership number yet. Was chatting with the two people working in a gift shop about how excited we were to finally become DVC members. We even discussed that our contract was resale - and one of them had several contracts including one resale herself.

Guess what? They gave us the discount.

A) They clearly knew the difference, as DVC members themselves they definitely would know. Clearly they didn't care about blue vs white (vs pending..)
B) Definitely wasn't arguing. They gave me the discount without me even asking about it.

It's the other way around... white card members who are asked if they're DVC members are being put in an awkward position. What's the correct reply? And what if the CM still applies the discount regardless of the reply?

Now, if a white card member asks for the discount, or worse yet insists on it, then I agree with you... unacceptable. But from what I read on these boards it sounds like there are many cases where white card members are getting a discount unintentionally.

DVC created this tiered membership and is ultimately responsible for any awkwardness created by it. It would be easy for Disney to implement a DVC member number lookup that automatically applies or doesn't apply the discount.

So here’s the thing. We were walking thru the parks and while they look busy if you really look many many merchandise shops, kiosks and food carts are closed. In Epcot many of the countries shops are closed. Many hotels and as such their shops are closed. California has been closed for nearly a year and overseas parks are open then closed. Disney has a lot of merchandise they have to move. Never in the past was I asked by a cast member if I had a discount. They are probably trying to move merchandise and create more magic for people. I was talking with a family staying cash at the boardwalk and they were upgraded from a studio to a one bedroom and they aren’t DVC members should they be excluded from receiving an upgrade. I saw a cast member give 2 cookies to some children for no reason they weren’t entitled to that. I believe they are trying to move merchandise and give guests a better experience during these slow times to make people happier. Walking thru Magic kingdom there were very few shops and food kiosks open so they are losing money on all this. Give people a discount and they might spend more. Give them a room upgrade and they feel better and happier

Cash reservations are much more likely to get upgraded than those of us who use points. Giving out cookies is Pixie Dust and a ridiculous comparison. Giving someone a room upgrade is not going to make them spend more money. Now, just because someone is staying at a DVC resort should they receive the discount-NO. But, I don't care if you are a blue or white card holder if the CM asks if you are a DVC member and you are-then you get the discount.

I am a blue card member. I don't care if the white card members get the 30%. It makes zero difference to me. And, they can give out all the room upgrades, free cookies, balloons, or whatever. Disney is still a magical place and some people will get Pixie dusted now just like in the past. I received a free cupcake in MK because the shop was closing and they were walking around the seating area handing them out. (The Halloween Bride one with the ax). I was upgraded to CL once at AKL-cash reservation. I received free beignets at POFQ (Probably because the person making them was flirting with my daughter).

Call it Pixie Dust or luck of the draw. If you get the discount, good for you. Because I will use my DVC or AP discount on every item my adult kids purchase and they are not members/passholders. Why would I not? Do I think I am skirting the system? Nope. It is not like I am buying something deeply discounted and selling it on Ebay.

I used the free cookie as a comparison which is ridiculous I agree because someone said that white card members taking the discount offered was like pirating movies so that is why I used such an off the wall comparison. Its crazy I did notice people buying tons of merchandise, like in France they brought out some stuffed Remi dolls and ear and people were buying 10-15 at a time! Is that to sell on ebay? Thats wrong I agree! I believe any one who gets the upgrades should enjoy. I dont begrudge anyone. actually I was a little envious LOL!
The funny thing is that I was buying something and they said "any discounts" are you DVC. I said specifically yes but Im a white card holder so I dont think Im entitled and she just laughed and said give me what you want and applied the discount, I didnt demand or even ask for a discount and actually said "I dont believe Im entitled"!

Let’s all remember that the rules are blue card memberships are qualified for discounts and white card memberships are not.

Having said that, it is up to the CMs at the parks and resorts to decide how to apply the rules.

Since we seem to be going back and forth, it may be time to simply close the thread.
