30 days before check-in, options?

Hi all,

I should know the answer to this as I’ve been a DVC member for more than 20 years. However, haven’t had this issue before. Need to decide over the next few days whether to keep our VGF reservations beginning January 25th due to a family health issue.

Obviously know I could rebook another reservation for later next year or cancel and save the points, but my question has to do with the 30 day mark. If the reservation is canceled within 30 days of arrival, I know points go into holding, which I wand to avoid it all costs . But do we have the option of “modifying” the reservation to later date within that 30 day period or does a modification have to be done more than 30 days out? I’m assuming the answer is that’s not possible but just wanted to make sure.

I’m sorry you’re faced with this situation and hope your family member ultimately does well. @Sandisw and others will hopefully confirm, my understanding is that if the modification is made 30 days or less from checkin, points go into holding. So it’s best to modify at least 31 days before checkin, sooner if you can.

IIRC, I had to cancel my end of June reservation one day prior to check-in. I didn’t cancel it. Instead, I modified it for about 45 days out. The new reservation required less points and those went into holding. Later on, I modified another reservation within 60 days of check-in and it picked up the holding points and returned points to my account.

I think the key is that within the 30 day period, you can modify for a check in date no more than 60 days from then. If you want something further out, you have to cancel, put the points in holding and then book 60 days prior to check-in.

Any change less then 31 days, including changing dates, results in holding points and it won’t let you choose dates farther than 60 days out.

So sorry you have to adjust things.
