My DS is 41 inches tall and just 3 yrs. old. He has tall parents!!

Since he meets the height requirement for SM, SM, BTMRR, Matterhorn, and all 40 inch height requirement rides...

What would be the easiest one to start him off and work his way up? I am thinking splash mtn.

Man that kids tall, I don't think I was that tall till I was like 12. I'd vote for Matterhorn as you could hold onto the little guy.

We just took my 3 year old niece to Disneyland last month and did all those rides. Splash was her favorite. She didn't care for Space. She was fine/content on BTMRR and the Matterhorn. I think Splash is a good one to start out with. :thumbsup2

Our 3 yr old started on the Matterhorn...she enjoyed it going fast, so we tried her on BTMRR.....THIS WAS HER FAVORITE!!!! She screamed, giggled & smiled thru-out the entire ride....we did it a ton!! We next tried her on Space Mountain....she loved it too. The one she didn't go on was Splash Mtn because I hate that ride & told hubby I didn't like that she wouldn't be secure in it (that's the reason I don't like it.....don't feel secure while sitting in it.....weird I know) Anywho....... it will really depend on how much of a daredevil your child is. She surprised us on what she liked....we pretty much did Fantasyland on our MM & passed by it the rest of the trip....she wanted to go fast!

Are you going over to CA at all? I keep thinking how much my kid would like Soarin, but she's only 38 inches right now. I keep telling her to grow! She liked Matterhorn okay (that one's only 35 inches), and frankly seemed more bothered by the Yeti than the actual ride.

My son was 3 when he was tall enough for the big rides. We started Matterhorn. He loved them all. I did draw the line with Space Mtn. though. I knew with it being dark, loud and fast he would be so scared we may never get him on another ride. I say just guage the child and decide what they are ready for. :thumbsup2

We were there a couple of weeks ago and I took DD2 on Matterhorn. She wasn't crazy about it and I thought she didn't like it, but then the rest of the day she pointed at it saying she wanted to go on it again. I think that one or maybe Splash Mt first. My older daughter had just turned 4 when we took her on that.

Thx everyone!! He is a bit scared of the dark, so I think I will hold off of Space for now. In this case, I wish there was a viewing room, where he could see what's going on before we go on it. I've been telling him about the rides especially Splash. On the matterhorn, I am concerned about what he thinks about the yeti since he has been talking about monsters lately. Maybe, i'll cover his eyes at that point.

We are going to CA too.

You might try showing him some videos of the rides on youtube.....

There are a ton of videos on youtube. My DS3 has watched them for a month and can't wait to try Splash and the matterhorn! Its really fun if you sit together in the computer chair and pretend you're on the ride...tip back when going uphill, spin a bit to the right or left and lean out, tip them forward a bit when going down the hill. This is one of our favorite pretending games. He always asks if we can play Disneyland rides...lol!

Can anyone refresh my mind about ride vehicles. Which of the 40'' rides do they have to sit alone? I think my ds will be ok if someone is sitting with him, but I don't think mom will be ok if he's sitting totally alone! :scared1:

All of the rides are two to a seat usually. Splash Mountain is individual seats in the log but there is a back seat they might let you set with the kid.

we took dd on matterhorn when she was tall enough for at 2 years 9 months old. she loved it! she kept asking to go back on it, 4 times in a row! good thing we were there when it was slow, lol.

splash mountain might be okay, the drop at the end is really more thrilling than scary, and it's over quickly. everything inside is fun. you can hold onto him if you sit all the way in the back of the log with him.

BTMRR is one that my kids all love. my youngest went on it for the first time just this past september when he was 3.5, and loved every second.

the only one i, personally, am a little leery of with really little kids, is space mountain. it's not just that it's so dark through the entire ride, but that's a big part of it. however, the way the bars come down, it doesn't really feel secure to me, for really small children. we took my daughter on it in '07 when she was finally tall enough (at age 6), and i held onto her tightly through the whole ride because it just looked like there was enough room for her to slide through the safety bars. my youngest was tall enough for it on our last trip this past september, but both DH and i just didn't feel good about putting him on it. we'll go back in august, and will let him ride then, but i'll hold onto him tightly the whole time, too. the dark won't bother him, but he'll be nearly 5 years old by then. if your little guy doesn't like the dark, i would think skipping space would be your best bet.

hope your family has a great time!:thumbsup2

I would recommend letting him make the suggestions rather than pushing it on him. The YouTube videos is a good idea. My 3-year old daughter is 43" (she hit 42" a little before she turned 3) and she's a little daredevil who loves the roller coasters and thrill rides. She's wants to ride them over and over again. I just wish she was tall enough for California Screamin' because I know she would love that one.

My 3 yr old was 40 inches she rode everything
her favorites
soarin (loved it)
space mountain
splash
thunder railroad
