3 WDW Trips in 6 months: August, October and December Reports *Completed*

Even though people were already lining up for the parade, we managed to find a spot in Liberty Square with hardly anyone lined up. After a little while, we began to realize why nobody seemed to be sitting there- no shade! This was the only time of the day I remember ever feeling hot. It was a nice view though, so we stuck it out.

cadct1-600.jpg

After a while, some clouds finally blew in and blocked out the sun a little, which helped greatly (and made for a lovely photo).

cadct2-600.jpg

Because the parade stepped off on Main Street, it took about 20 minutes to reach us in Liberty Square. A bit of a wait , but still not quite as long as the wait for Pixie Hollow this morning. This was our first time seeing the “Celebrate A Dream Come True Parade”. True, we had seen it back when it was “Share A Dream Come True” years ago when it had the Snow Globes still on the floats, but since the floats were redesigned, the music was new and the character line-up was slightly different, it was still somewhat of a new experience, I’d say.

cadct3-600.jpg

Pluto came along giving high fives. Between the Magic Kingdom and Cape May, Pluto was the member of the “Fab Five” that Buzz missed getting to meet on this trip. He did get a high five though, so that should count for something.

cadct4-600.jpg

Some celebration dancers. Their costumes remind me so much of the costumes the dancers would wear in the Disney parades in the 80s back when I was a kid.

cadct5-600.jpg

Mickey and Minnie in their own celebration garb.

cadct6-600.jpg

Pinocchio with his conscience standing in the shadows.

cadct24-600.jpg

Normally I wouldn’t post a picture like this since I don’t think it’s very good, but I’ll make an exception since there’s a bit of a story to go behind it. Snow White and her Prince were two of the characters I was most hoping to get a photo of in the parade since The Prince was new to it since I last saw it. I had a great shot of them all composed, but as soon as I took the picture, they both moved, resulting in this somewhat blury and poorly composed shot. :sad2: Taking parade pictures can be frustrating sometimes.

cadct7-600.jpg

Abu! It’s nice to see Disney bring this guy out more. I’ve heard complaints that he looks pretty creepy-looking, but I don’t think he’s too bad.

cadct8-600.jpg

Aladdin.

cadct9-600.jpg

I’m really happy that Bert’s been added to the parade too- and in his lesser-seen chimney sweep attire no less.

cadct10-600.jpg

The Neverland and Wonderland characters seem a pretty good match. I find Alice and Wendy together amusing. They have so much in common.

cadct11-600.jpg

cadct12-600.jpg

Break out the ribbons, it’s time for the show stop!

cadct13-600.jpg

The Peter Pan/ Alice float stopped right in front of us, so we didn’t really have any character or dancers do their show near us. We did get to see the carousel of little characters on the float in action. If you look closely, you can see the Cheshire Cat and Mushu going around the castle

cadct14-600.jpg

Even though Peter was practically right in front of us, he and Wendy did their whole routine to the crowd on the left and never turned to the crowd on their right. Odd.

cadct15-600.jpg

The Mad Hatter and Alice during the big finish.

cadct16-600.jpg

When the parade started moving again, Anastasia spotted me taking pictures and remembered me from that morning. She stuck around a bit to find out if Buzz was the brother I told them about and how my birthday was going.

cadct17-600.jpg

After our little chat, Anastasia had to leave and catch up with the rest of the Tremaines who seemed perturbed because they found her running to lack essential grace or poise. Anastasia certainly seems to be turning into the new rebel of the family (and actually, with a family like the Tremaines, that might not be such a bad thing).

cadct18-600.jpg

Behind the Tremaines came the royals of the Kingdom- Prince Charming and Cinderella.

cadct19-600.jpg

Belle.

cadct20-600.jpg

Prince Eric and Ariel who seems to have changed back from mermaid to human for the occasion.

cadct21-600.jpg

Finally, it was time for the big finale- the Castle float. They’ve been using this float for years and years. I can remember being a kid and seeing the characters from Robin Hood and the Gummi Bears coming down the street in it.

cadct22-600.jpg

Goofy and Donald.

cadct23-600.jpg

I really enjoyed Celebrate A Dream Come True- even more, I think than the original version or it. This one was just so bright and festive and had a bunch of great characters in it. Glad we got a chance to see it.

Next chapter: The Hall of Presidents

Hi Meeko!

Have been unable to get Dising lately as DH is off work after dislocating his knee and has been hogging the laptop! :headache:

Lovely photos, especially of The Donald in his Davy Crockett outfit! I especially liked the HoP line from the CM! ;)

The parade looks good - I can't wait to go back!!!! Only 10 1/2 months to go!

Di x

Gummi Bears! I used to love the Gummi Bears!

You really make me want to watch thh afternoon parade but I am usually relaxing at the resort by then. Hmmm...I might have to make an exception one day!

Hey Di. Sorry to hear about your DHs knee. Hope he feels better.

Glad you liked the pics. As for the Hall of Presidents, I should have the chapter with our visit there up tomorrow (hopefully). You can see if we agreed with him.

10 1/ 2 months to go? You'll be there eating beignets in no time.

Hey LL. I was looking through my photos and found you an old shot of some Gummi Bears on the Castle float with another of your favorites.

dchp-poppinsgummi-1.jpg

Dad gets the credit for this picture. It was a year or two before I started taking pictures, I think (not taking good pictures, but pictures nontheless).

I'm glad we finally saw the parade again. We're usually in the same boat as you going back to a resort in the afternoons, mostly for Magic Kingdom days since Mom and Dad usually find the park way too hot, crowded and crazy in the afternoons and prefer to leave before the parade. Yet another nice thing about the low-crowds in October was that the crowds didn't seem anywhere near as crazed as we've experienced in the past at MK. Liberty Square and Frontierland are usually more mellow than Main Street too.

That is a GREAT picture! Gummi Bears & Mary Poppins! That little yellow gummi bear was my favorite and I'm trying to think of her name. I'm pretty sure she was a girl...do you remember?

Her name was Sunni. I had to Google it to make sure because I couldn't quite remember if it was Sunni or Summi. It's been so many years since I've seen that show!

Yes! Excellent. I really want to watch Gummi Bears now...or the The Wuzzles...did you watch them too? I still have my stuffed Elyroo (or however you spell it)

Yeah I did watch that one too. I have very few memories about it though. I remember a few of the character names but that's about it. Let's see... there was Bumblelion, Rhinokee, Hopopotomous, Butterbear(I think?), Ticoon... and it sort of goes blank after that. I probably didn't spell any of those right either.

Once the parade was over, we decided to head over to Fantasyland to hit one of Buzz’s favorite rides- It’s A Small World.

columbiafantasyland-600.jpg

The Fantasyland side of Columbia Harbour House, taken on the way to Small World.

smallworld1-600.jpg

The waits wasn’t bad at all- around 5 minutes (well, including me and Buzz stopping to take pictures in the queue).

smallworld2-600.jpg

I know a lot of people don’t really like this ride either, but I think it’s pretty cute. One thing that really impressed me was just how much detail is in the ride. You really can’t take it all in at once! I tried taking some photos of the ride, but they didn’t turn out very well so I’ll spare you from having to see them. I gave up taking pictures before we even left Europe. I think I need to check up on my camera again and figure out how to get on-ride photos without flash again. Of course, Buzz really likes it. He’s one of those rare people who really liked the song too.

Next on the agenda: The Hall of Presidents. I thought we would be able to make it to the 4pm show, but we got there a little too late and had to wait for the next one. It was in less than 20 minutes, so that gave us some time to get some air conditioning and check out some of the displays in the lobby.

hallofpresidents1-600.jpg

Who knew that Franklin Roosevelt was a stamp collector?

hallofpresidents2-600.jpg

A Teddy bear

hallofpresidents3-600.jpg

The Seal in the middle of the room.

hallofpresidents4-600.jpg

A few of the First Ladies’ gowns on display. This was Elizabeth Monroe’s.

hallofpresidents5-600.jpg

Edith Roosevelt’s gown.

After a while, it was finally time for the show. This was our first time seeing the new version with President Obama (actually, we hadn’t seen any version of it at all since 1994 which shows you how much of a priority this usually is for us  ). It was alright, but not great. I’m glad we saw it, but it’s not something I’ll be rushing back to again unless Mom and Dad want to see the new version next time they’re at the park. If you're looking for a rose-colored American history lesson with animatronics, I think the American Adventure is a better bet. You do get so see Mr. Lincoln here though who is oddly absent from the EPCOT show.

After the show, it was clear that the crowd for the Halloween Party that night had been let in. It was a little odd seeing guests wandering around in costumes during park hours. I was also surprised at the number of little girls dressed as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. I’ve never been to the Halloween Party (someday, hopefully…), but what I’d seen about it on the DIS made me think that almost everybody dressed up in Disney costumes. Apparently, that’s not quite so. Dorothy seemed most popular non-Disney costume around, but there were quite a number of Jedis, Hogwarts students and others as well. As the party guests came in, we made our way across the Hub on our way to Tomorrowland.

castlehub2-600.jpg

I really think that this turned out to be one of my favorite photos of the trip. We had stopped to get some more photos of the Hub statues, and I realized that if you stood in a certain spot that it looks like Minnie is dreamily looking at the Castle.

castlehub1-600.jpg

Can you believe in all my years going to Disney, I think this is the first shot I’ve ever taken of the Partners statue? For once it wasn’t too crowded so I stuck around to get a shot of it.

castlehub3-600.jpg

Donald’s Halloween statue which I apparently had forgotten to take a photo of that morning.

castlehub4-600.jpg

This is now my cell phone wallpaper.

castlehub5-600.jpg

It’s hard to resist taking pictures of the Castle, especially when you’ve got a beautiful blue sky behind it and a lovely garden in front of it.

tomorrowland-600.jpg

Somehow we were able to pry ourselves away from taking pictures in the Hub to finally make it to Tomorrowland.

buzz1-600.jpg

The wait was short at Buzz Lightyear (less than 10 minutes!), so we jumped right in line. Buzz tried to show me the secret target he found when he got the max score earlier that morning, but I couldn’t seem to find it. Buzz ended up not maxing out this time, but still had a extremely respectable score. I think I’m still a Space Scout. I hardly ever seem to make it beyond that! It’s still good fun.

buzz2-600.jpg

On the way out, I made sure to get a shot of this guy on the mural as you exit. I was thinking of doing a montage of Disney photos from A to Z for my Flickr page or something and thought he’d be perfect in case I ever make it. His name? XR. It’s so hard to find things that begin with “X”!

spacemountain-600-1.jpg

Next, we decided to head to Toontown. I wanted to see if I could get to Toontown to see if I could see the Princesses before the Hall of Fame closed, and Buzz was wanting to see if the Barnstormer was open. Along the way, we passed Space Mountain, still shuttered for its refurbishment.

treatparty1-600.jpg

The pathway between Tomorrowland and Toontown was all decorated for the Party already, so it was fun getting to see everything even though we wouldn’t be staying for all the festivities.

treatparty2-600.jpg

Looks like somebody’s been painting the roses red!

treatparty3-600.jpg

“You can learn a lot of things from the flowers…”

treatparty4-600.jpg

treatparty5-600.jpg

And we exited through the entrance. I think it seemed like a fairly Wonderland-ish thing to do.

Next chapter: Just who are this evening’s “Mystery Guests” at the Princess room?

I can’t believe that we’ve got less than a month until we leave for Disney again! We’ve still got a bunch of planning left to do, but I’m hoping that we’ll be able to get a bunch of it knocked out next week when the four of us are together for Thanksgiving. Until then, I thought I’d post a few of the things we’ve never done before and things we haven’t done in a while which we might be doing while we’re there.

Firsts

Block Party Bash We missed out on this last year due to rain (it was August so no big surprise), but hopefully the weather will be a little nicer for us in December so we’ll finally be able to see it. From what I’ve seen of it, the parade seems pretty fun. Looks like there’s some interesting rarely-seen PIXAR characters in there too, so I’m sure that be trying to get some photos of them.

American Idol Experience I want to do this, but I’m not sure we’ll make it. Dad really loves American Idol on TV, but Mom really doesn’t. Buzz and I could take it or leave it on TV, but it’s something we’ve never done before at DHS and I’d like to at least give it a try. If everyone feels ok with doing it, we will.

Sum of All Thrills at Innoventions I’ve been hearing a lot about this new attraction in Innoventions where you build your own virtual reality roller coaster, and it sounds like fun. I’m sure Mom and Dad won’t be up to it, but Buzz and I might try it if we have a chance.

Re-Discoveries

Candlelight Processional It’s been a long time since we’ve seen this (well, besides just standing outside the theater and listening to it a little before continuing on through World Showcase), so I’m sure this will be a main priority for us. Plus, the narrator for the evening seems like an interesting one. I won’t say who it is because I don’t want to give too much away just yet. ;)

Test Track How did we go 5 years without doing this? I’m not sure if Mom and Dad would still be up for this one or not. If they pass on it, I’d really feel bad spending most of the morning going around Future World doing attractions without them. If that turns out to be the case, I’m thinking that Buzz and I will probably just do Test Track and skip Sum of All Thrills in lieu of something the four of us can all do together like maybe Figment or Spaceship Earth or possibly Soarin’ again since they really love it.

Well, I think that’s about it for now. More updates to come as we continue planning.

Yeah I did watch that one too. I have very few memories about it though. I remember a few of the character names but that's about it. You seem to remember a lot of them!! I can see all of them in my mind but don't remember there names exactly. Didn't one of them have a mermaid tail of some sort?

The picture of Minnie and the Castle is gorgeous. You should submit that to the Allears.net photo contest. They feature a picture each week in their newsletter and yours is too pretty for them to pass up! :thumbsup2

Your plans for December look good. I'm dying to know who your narrator is going to be! Is Neil Patrick Harris narrating again this year?

The funny thing is I remember their name but can't remember what they looked like for the most part or even what animal combo a few of those were. And I have no recollection of the plot of the show or if there was a bad guy or anything.

Glad you liked the picture of Minnie and the Castle. I've never really entered any of Allears' contests before. The winners are always so good I just don't think I could compete. Maybe someday I'll work up the courage to submit one.

You know, I don't think Neil Patrick Harris is narrating this year. He wasn't on the list that I saw. We caught a little bit of him a few years back and he was pretty good. You could just tell how much of a thrill is was for him.

Well you know how I feel about the AIE so I think you should definitely do it even if you don't care for the show. :thumbsup2

Great updates. I like those parade pictures...we haven't seen the parade in so long. I think they need to completely change it rather than just tweaking it here and there. They used to have a new parade every other year it seemed!

Your report really makes AIE sound like so much fun. I'm really hoping that everyone will be willing to at least give it a try.

It would be nice to finally get a new parade. We've had this one for 8 years now, I think, and it doesn't seem like there's any word on a new one anytime soon. This one was fun though. If you haven't seen it in a while, I'd recommend giving it another try. Like I said, we saw it last when it still had the snow globes on it and this version had a completly different feel to it even though it had all of the same floats- very peppy and exciting.

After arriving in Toontown, Buzz and I proceeded to split up again with me going to the Hall of Fame and him going to the Barnstormer which by now was running again. The wait for the Princess Room wasn’t bad at all. The wait time was listed as 15 minutes but it turned out to be closer to 10- much shorter than the wait at the line for Pixie Hollow which moved very little, if at all, for the duration of my time in the Princesses’ line.

princessroom1-600.jpg

The first Princess in the room as Aurora who greeted me as soon as I walked into the room and walked me to her little photo spot.

princessroom2-600.jpg

Cinderella was next. I’m really happy with how the pictures of her came out. With my old camera, no matter what I did my pictures of Cinderella in the Princess Room always came out looking really dark and always required a ton of Photoshopping to make them look natural, but these came out looking great straight off the camera.

princessroom3-600.jpg

princessroom4-600.jpg

princessroom5-600.jpg

The third princess was Snow White, who I don’t think is usually a regular here (normally it’s Belle in her gold gown). I guess that she was the Mystery Guest that the sign at the entrance meant. Secretly I was hoping that it would be Tiana starting early at Toontown since her location in Liberty Square was under construction at the time, but Snow White was cool too and very much in characters. She even said that she would say hello to the Dwarfs for me.

princessroom6-600.jpg

minnieshouse1-600.jpg

After leaving the Hall of Fame, I headed off to Minnie’s House to check it out again. Now that Toontown is going to be going away sometime in the next few years, it’s hard to say how many more times we’ll have to go through it. Plus, I’d never seen it during Halloween, so I wanted to see all the decorations that were up too.

minnieshouse2-600.jpg

The window to the upstairs portion of the house we never get to see.

minnieshouse3-600.jpg

You know it’s not too crowded when you can get a picture of Minnie’s living room with no one in it- not even as a reflection in the mirror!

minnieshouse4-600.jpg

I think Minnie’s old-fashioned radio is awesome.

minnieshouse5-600.jpg

Minnie as a scarecrow?

minnieshouse6-600.jpg

Did anyone else ever find it odd that Donald never wears pants unless his shirt is off?

minnieshouse7-600.jpg

One of Minnie’s paintings.

minnieshouse8-600.jpg

Bulletin Board notes.

minnieshouse9-600.jpg

Daisies.

mickeyshouse1-600.jpg

By now Buzz was done with the Barnstormer (the wait wasn’t that long, but he stopped a lot and took a bunch of photos in the queue along the way too) and we met up over at Mickey’s House.

mickeyshouse2-600.jpg

mickeyshouse3-600.jpg

Mickey’s mail.

mickeyshouse4-600.jpg

The backyard was all decorated too.

mickeyshouse5-600.jpg

Pluto’s dog house.

mickeyshouse6-600.jpg

Before leaving, I wanted to try and get a better picture of the Mahove Oil cans. This little in-joke stumped everyone when I posted a pic of it in last December’s trip report. For those who didn’t read that one, Mahove Oil is the fictional company that owns the tanker truck in the Catastrophe Canyon scene of the Hollywood Studios Backlot Tour. I believe I’ve heard the Oscar’s gas station at the entrance on Hollywood Studios also uses Mahove Oil products but I’m not certain. I might have to check that out when we’re there in December. After going through Mickey’s House, we left Toontown. By now, we had done all of our main priorities for the day and still had over an hour left before park closing, so we figured we’d walk around looking for attractions to do.

Next chapter: The end of our free day at the Magic Kingdom

Wonderful pictures of the details in Minnie's House!

I would have been disappointed if I saw posting of a mystery guest and it was just Snow White. I would have excpected someone rarer!

That Snow White seems to have crazy eyes. :rotfl2: Maybe it's just the way the photo was captured. I would have been a little sad that the mystery guess was Snow White too, I would have thought it would be a Prince. :thumbsup2

I have to tell you that after our talk of Gummi Bears and Wuzzles, I found a website that had The Wuzzles on DVD, I'm sure it's not high quality but I ordered the 3 dvd set of the entire series. I even went on YouTube and was watching. They lived on the island of Wuzz. I didn't remember that.

Thanks Dawn. Yeah, I was hoping for a more unusual mystery guest too, especially since I had just seen Snow White at EPCOT in August (and in front of a nicer background no less). Honestly, I would have even perfered Belle in her gold dress who's usually there since it's the only place to see her in it besides Norway. Still, Snow White was retty cool so I can't complain too much.

You know, out of all the characters, I've noticed that Snow White seems to overdo facial expressions more than just about any other character in the parks. That first picture I got of her this time around is a prime example. A Prince would have been fantastic, but I guess that it wasn't to be that day.

Sounds like our conversation helped rekindle your love of the Wuzzles. I didn't remember that they lived on the island of Wuz either.
