We got into Orlando on Sunday 10/13, and arrived at All-Star Music at about 8:00 pm. We were just staying there for that night to get a head start on on 3 day package that started the 14th. We had stayed at Movies for a few days last year, so we knew what to expect. We we waited in quite a lenghty line at check in, get our KTTW card and run to the room (it was pouring). We open the door and to our surprise we had just intruded on someone elses room! Thankfully, none of the guests were there. So I run back to the lobby and I butt into the front of the line to convince the CM (yes, I had to convice her) that she had given us an occupied room! Many minutes past, but at last we had a room! Sleep at last!
First thing in the morning, we get our bags shipped to the AKL, then head over by taxi to the AKL to check in. What an amazing place. I was overwhelmed! We didn't spend too much time there as our room wasn't ready, so we recieved our new KTTW and headed over to the AK. At about 3 we came back to get into our room and get settled. An amazing staff, an amazing view (we were on the Zebra trail) and an amazing room! I had heard some complaints on these boards on being able to hear the toilets flush....please! If that is all you have to complain about, consider yourself lucky! We should all consider ourselves blessed to stay in such a beautiful resort.
On Thursday, we started the land portion of our cruise package and we had chosen the Beach Club. So we sent our bags over Thurs morn, headed over to Epcot to enjoy the day there. At 3:00 we headed over to the BC to check in. When we got there, we were told that we had a King bed at our request, and I am certain that I requested non smoking. We had to wait nearly an hour before our room was ready (after being told repetedly that it would be ready in a few minutes). We get to our room with the beautiful view, only to barely stand the smell of rotten smoke. We call the front desk, who happily move us to the room right next to the laundry room, which was VERY LOUD, has 2 queen beds, with the view of bushes. The CM told us they ran out of non smoking kings. So my DH calls, explains our displeasure so far, and they moved us up a floor to a 2 queen bed, with a better view and non smoking. After just coming from a perfect experience at the AKL, and running into several waves here, we wished that DCL would just include AKL as part of the package. It was clear that the rooms at the BC could use refurbishment (touch up paint, new carpet and drapes, paint over rust in bathroom.) Keep in mind that we had just moved from a resort that is only 2 years old. However, all those silly minor details were forgotten as we walked around the boardwalk area, cruised over to Epcot and MGM with no hassle and explored the huge pool. It was just such a drastic change from a nearly brand new resort to a well used (and a favorite, from what I hear) resort! The convienence and the general wholesome beauty of the BC just can't be beat! My only other suggestion for Disney would be...if you do refurbish, add a food court! That was a missed convienence that the BC didn't have that AKL, All stars, and Coranado Spgs (stayed there last year) all have!
We got a taste of everything...the AKL comes out on top!
