We are 2 (pretty normal size) adults and a skinny 10 year old boy.
Just wondering if you guys can think of any rides where the 3 of us won't be able to ride together? I want to plan in advance that one of us sits out or heads through the solo rider line if we won't be able to do the ride together.

Splash Mountain
Jungle Cruise
Big Thunder Mountain

Any others we should add? Or any I should take out? I don't want to bore my 10 year old with little kid rides lol

Thanks!!

If you are talking all being in the same seat/row there are quite a few on your list. If you are talking not in the same cart/buggy/etc then not really. For example on Big Thunder two of you would sit in one cart while the 3rd sits in the cart behind. Same would go for a ride's like Toy Story, Goofys Sky School, Mater's, Monsters inc, silly symphony (all individual swings), California screaming, Astro Blasters, Hyper Space, Autopia, Astro Orbitor. On Splash and Matterhorn you sit one behind the other.

I want to plan in advance that one of us sits out or heads through the solo rider line if we won't be able to do the ride together. I don't understand why one person in your party would use single rider? If you all go through the line together you will be seated one in front of the other 2, if you go through single rider you are not guaranteed to be done at the same time or sit close to each other.

Any others we should add? Or any I should take out? I don't want to bore my 10 year old with little kid rides lol This depends on your child and your family. When we go we love all the rides, some for the thrill factor and some for the nostalgic factor. I would suggest doing your must have's and then branching out after that!

Have a magical time!

Buzz light year and Toy Story Midway Mania are both game-rides. So they are 2 person per vehicle.

Hyperspace mountain and California Screamin are both roller coasters with rows of two, so you can all ride at once but someone will either be alone or by a single rider.

Depending on if you can all fit, you can general ride three to a car in Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, teacups, little mermaid, junkyard jamboree and monsters inc.

Yukonmommy covered everything I would but wanted to add that we are also a family of 3, our daughter is a petite 12 year old. One advantage we found is that we were pulled to the front of the line a few times by CMs looking for parties of 3, it was awesome! On the rides where only 2 would fit, we would trade off riding with her and it wasn't a big deal. Have fun!

Absolutely no reason for one of you to sit out or go through single rider line.
On my children's first trip to Disney World we were three: myself, 10 year old and 12 year old. If it was a two seater ride I let the kids sit together and I would sit by myself usually right behind them. No big deal.

Why would you have someone sit out or go through the single rider line? Just tell the CM at the front that there are 3 of you, and they will direct you either all into one lane or in lanes right behind each other.

On any of the rides where 3 of you won't fit together in one seat, the other one will ride separately. You will all still wait in line together. When you are at front of line, they will tell you how to sit such as one in front, 2 in back (for Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, etc), or two in one car and one in another. It works out just fine. It can be a squeeze play to put all 3 in same row/car for some things like Haunted Mansion, Dumbo, Peter Pan, but we used to do it all the time.

My DH and I went last weekend with our 21-year old son. Going as a party of three was no problem at all. We decided in advance who would ride alone
and we would arrange ourselves while we were in line. DS has Asperger's and mostly wanted to ride with me. He chose to ride alone on Buzz so he could shoot with both guns! He also wanted to drive his own Autopia car. Anytime there was a chance of being seated next to a stranger (which makes him uncomfortable), DS would sit between us. DH used the single rider line for Screamin since DS and I don't like it. Usually DS18 would be with us, but he needed to spend the weekend in LA so we went as a party of three. We still had a great time!

I guess I should always start my posts with "Sorry if this is a dumb question but this is my first time to Disneyland in 25 years" LOL.
I am unsure how it works. I just read about single riders. I thought - if something is a 2 person ride then the 3rd person would be a single rider wouldn't they?

Thanks for all of the clarifications above!! I appreciate it and glad to know I wasn't alone in my question :)

Not a dumb question! We are a family of 3 and now that DS is 11 1/2, there are some rides that we can no longer ride together in the same car. Some, like Alice, we can ride in the same car but not in the same row. Any ride like Space, we just ride in 2 rows and let DS pick who he wants to sit with. The only ride that Ican think of where we have had a single rider added to our car is Goofy's and in that case, I typically ride with the stranger since I am smaller that DH! Screamin' would be the same if I would ride it but after 3 tries, I have come the the conclusion that I just don't enjoy it at all!

There are some rides where we have to use up two cars such as PP, Mr. Toad's, Dumbo...and those rides typically one of the adults sits out since we have ridden them enough so we don't feel left out. Others, like Little Mermaid and HM, we just take up two ride vehicles.

Not really. You're a party of three, even if one of you is sitting by him/herself. A single rider is a party of one, who gets put in with the party of three to fill up a fourth seat.

Ah, it's the terminology that was getting people confused. A Single Rider is a term for people who ride through a separate line called the single rider line at certain rides (Radiator Springs, Matterhorn, Splash Mountain, etc) to fill in empty spaces. If you are three people who will ride together/near each other through either the fastpass or standby line, none of you are single riders.

It's not a dumb question at all, and that's why people are here to answer. Many rides don't have a single rider line at all, just a few rides do. In those cases you could potentially have an extra person added to your party since you're not a group of two or four (which the rides seemed designed for). For example on Indy you sit in rows of four. Since there are 3 of you, they would add a person from the single rider to your group. Screamin' is rows of two, so one of you would sit with your son and the other would likely sit with a guest from the single rider line. No reason for you to use the Single Rider unless you want to. Many groups opt to use the Single Rider line to ride Radiator Springs Racers (RSR) because it's faster than waiting in line. They get split up when seated because they are filling in the holes. RSR has a lot of single rider potential because it actually has rows of three and many groups are two or four.
