3 Missing Michigan Boys

I know. It is so sad. I am afraid that the father killed them. Especially since he tried to commit suicide the day they went missing. So sad.

Me too.

You look at those little faces and think, how could he? It is incredibly sad.

I've been following this sad story ~ Lord I hope and pray those sweet boys are ok and in safe surroundings.

:(

Praying that these boys are safe although I have a bad feeling...

Doesn't sound good.

Didn't the police say they were not hopeful for a good outcome? That's scary . . .

I think it's safe to say that this isn't going to end well...

Either I'm incredibly stupid - or I try so hard to focus on the positive aspects in life - I just can't wrap my head around why a parent would kill their own child (or in this case children)..:confused3

Why? How does someone do that?? :sad1:

I didn't see this until now, but you can bet that when I say my prayers tonight I will be praying with all my heart that these children are found safe somewhere..:sad2:

The two most common answers I've found are:
1) Mental illness
2) Extreme narcissism (the parent decides to commit suicide and feels that their kids' lives aren't worth living without them)

I've learned not to ask those questions. Even if I had the answer, would that have any effect on the outcome? Parents have been killing their children since the beginning of man and knowing the answer hasn't changed any of the outcomes at all.

Like other Michiganders who've been following this story, I also believe those three boys will likely be found dead somewhere. If they're found at all. My only wish now is that the truth will come out at trial and that man will be locked away for the rest of his life if it turns out he killed his children.

I'm not someone who advocates the death penalty, but I would be willing to put him in solitary confinement with a loaded gun. He can end his own life and take the matter up with God when he gets there.

I think I heard on the news the parents were going through a bad custody battle. Often, parents will take the life of their child(ren) and their own, thinking if I can't have you no one can.

And if knowing the answer could possibly save a child's life, why wouldn't you want to know? Yes, things like this do happen, but by finding out why, I'm sure there have been many children saved.

Neither do I , but when someone hurts a child, I could kill them myself.

The other common answer seems to be (and this might go hand-in-hand with your answer #1) is that they think they're doing their kids a "favor" by freeing them from the life in this world.

Isn't that what Andrea Yates said when she drowned her kids? She was "freeing them from demons" or something like that. There was a local parental murder/suicide where the father left a note saying that he didn't want his kids to face the hardships in their lives that he faced in his.

I read an article that sounds like although the mother was awarded custody by the court, it sounds like she has some pretty serious problems of her own. I think it's also possible that this guy decided that the poor kids had two lousy parents and would be better off dead than with either of them.

That shouldn't have been his decision to make and I hope they throw the book (and other things) at him... but, sadly, that's where I see this story headed. :( :(

I'll never understand why people hurt children either. :sad2:
If you don't want them or can't provide, there are thousands of people who would welcome them with open arms.

Like many, apparently tough times had fallen on them - father lost job, house foreclosure, parents seperated, Mom w/mental issues awared custody even tho years ago she'd had a prior sexual offense w/14yo boy, father attempts suicide. Perhaps if his desperate sick state of mind, if he couldn't have them, no one could. :sad1:

God Bless these innocent little boys. Clinging to my faith they'll be found safe and sound, but reality ck says chances are slim. :(

this is why after cases like

and all the others....there has to be something more we can do. I understand it not possible to have a safe haven and drop your kids off to the state (as a ton would eb doing it) but can't someone come up with something....these children are not to blame and then now we have to pay for the care and housing of the murderers while they never got to live their life.

If someone feels their kids would be better off without the parents they currently have they can give the kids up. If these people would call the police, a neighbor, a hospital, dr, teacher etc. They would be taken and cared for....killing them is not a reasonable solution. Safe Havens do exist and no police station would turn children back to a parent who says they won't care for them without calling social services to intervene.

Hey, I agree with you (and I'm an adoptive mom times 2 on top of it. I know there are better options.) That's why I said that the "better off dead" reason probably goes hand in hand with mental illness -- it's *not* a reasonable solution, but it's one I've heard multiple times from people who've committed these types of crimes.
