Day 7

Usually, we arrive at ADRs a bit early just so we can get our names on the waiting list…and guess what?! There was some kind of waiting list! Apparently when it started raining, people decided to take cover at H&V and 50s…tons of people trying to get seats. The hostess was telling people that no more walk-ups would be taken at this time.

No big deal…we were not in any hurry at all. The only time I’m in a hurry at WDW is Rope Drop…remember…I told you that I lose all sense of sanity!:scared1: We finally grabbed a seat and tried to relax a bit. Relax is such a subjective word when you have a 4 year old…right?!

DSC_4142.jpg

The last few times we’ve eaten here were wonderful, so I was anxious to see if it still had the same ‘Magic’. It appeared to be super busy…was wondering if this was gonna have ill effects on the experience. However, we didn’t let that bother us.

DSC_4140.jpg

Stephen has always liked this place…and always asks 150 questions about the 50s era. He loves history, so this restaurant is perfect for him. The funny thing about this place…even though we’ve been here several times, I still feel like I’m being transported back in time. EVERY aspect of the restaurant is from the 50s…even the way the wait staff talks to you and each other.

So be warned!....if you are NOT into the whole role playing thing…don’t try this restaurant! If you’re going to get the most out of the experience, you have to follow along and immerse yourself….it actually becomes quite funny!

IMG_6398.jpg

Well…the wait wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be! We were finally seated, and needless to say…we’re hungry!

50spinkdining.jpg

Again…the atmosphere is just too cute! The wait staff walks around being loud…yelling at people with their elbows on the table…telling adults to eat their veggies or no dessert! DS10 thinks it’s the funniest thing ever!! There was this one guy on his cell phone at the table, and the waitress told him to put his toys away…no playing during dinner! I’m not sure he thought it was funny, but I died laughing! :rotfl2:

IMG_6399.jpg

Our waitress was a little on the slow side, but nothing that I would complain about…the place was a madhouse with people…I’m sure she was swamped. She finally came by, threw our napkins and silverware on the table and said, “ok kids (she’s talking to all of us)…set the table!”…then she walked off. All part of the whole experience.

Appetizers

Remember that when ordering this…it’s for two…lots of them….and very tasty in a greasy, fattening kind of way! Notice Faith's little hand going for an onion ring....she loved them!

IMG_6402.jpg

Served with succotash, chili sauce and crispy onions…..ummmmm good!!!!

IMG_6400.jpg

Lump Blue Crab, Bay Scallops, and Shrimp tossed in Citrus Vinaigrette served on seasonal Greens….another good one!!!

IMG_6401.jpg

So…are you hungry, yet!??!

Main Course

Creamy mixture of chicken, mushrooms, carrots, celery, peas, and onions topped with a flaky pastry. I always get the fried chicken, but decided to try something different…and glad I did! Very yummy!!!!...especially the crust.

DSC_4144.jpg

A blend of beef and pork topped with tomato glaze, served with mashed potatoes, and green beans…DH had this….he said that it wasn’t as good as mine. Last year he had the chicken pot pie and liked it better. He said it was a little on the dry side.

IMG_6405.jpg

Crispy-fried Chicken, Fork Tender Pot Roast, and Traditional Meatloaf with all the fixings….the fried chicken is ALWAYS good! Ya can’t go wrong here.

IMG_6403.jpg

Slow-cooked until fork tender served with mashed potatoes, carrots, celery and onions….the picture doesn’t look great, but it was good.

IMG_6404.jpg

The basic stuff for kids….

DSC_4145.jpg

Dessert….well….the only thing we ordered, besides Jesse’s Sundae, were milkshakes. And let me tell ya…..they are to die for good! Last year DH tried the PB&J shake and it was a hit….this year…I think we ordered 3 to go!!! I know that it doesn’t sound good, but they are delicious! Save room for one of these!

DSC_4146.jpg

DSC_4147.jpg

So…will we return?? Are you kidding me?!....of course without a doubt YES! :thumbsup2 It’s a definite when we go to DHS. There are some items on the menu that are better than others, but this is true for all restaurants. If you decide to try it….go with an open mind and realize that you might get a “Mind your manners!” or “Get your elbows off the table!” or “No playing at the dinner table!”….it’s just all part of the experience that makes it so incredibly fun for all ages!

Up next…..DHS afternoon then Victoria and Alberts!

I love the 50's PT meatloaf but when DH said how about eating at BD I changed to there for our DHS day. That is ok I liked the cobb salad last time we went to BD and I want to try the grapefruit cake.

You got some really great pics of your family at 50's PT.

I love the 50's Primetime. Now you have my mouth watering for one of those milkshakes.

As I was typing up the post this morning, I told DH that I was craving a PB&J shake!! We actually got the recipe off Allears and have used it several times...however, just not quite as good when you're not at WDW:rolleyes:

I've never had the Cobb Salad but people rave about it!!!...or the Grapefruit Cake. However...I can say that the Banana White Chocolate Toffee Tower and the Double Vanilla Bean Créme Brulée is to die for!!! Okay...DH and I are now officialy hungry and 4 1/2 hours away from all that delicious food:headache:

I had a salmon on a ceasar salad there once that was out of this world good. I always love their fried chicken too!

Speaking of - the total experience - What was it Stephen said to the waitress :confused3 and she came back a few minutes later and stuck her head through the window and hollered at him? ? ? Scared the ever lovin' stuff out of him. :scared1::scared1::scared1: We laughed until we hurt. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
Part of the experience. :thumbsup2

My parents, aunt, and 2 cousins and I took a family trip in 98 and this was one of the only TS resturants we ate at. We all loved it. The food and the experience. We got yelled at for having our elbows on the table and also for not finishing our plate. My dad got a special award for finishing his and I think it was a small cup of ice cream. My cousin did not eat her veggies and the waitress played up on this the whole time. When she brought my dads ice cream she gave a cup of ice cream to my cousin saying that she was sorry for picking on her. My cousin started eating it and realized her veggies were in the bottom of the cup.:lmao: We were completely hysterical.

We have not been back since. My boys were 4 and 2 on our last trip and them being yelled at while eating would have been nothing new for them at that time.:rotfl2: I think this will be a fun one to do next time.

I cant wait to hear about the rest of your day!

I don't remember exactly what he said to the waitress:confused3...but whatever it was made her come back a few minutes later and yell at him.

That's exactly why I love this restaurant!:thumbsup2 Thanks for sharing that ...I can totally see that whole story playing out:rotfl: And the veggies in the ice cream!! That's a good one! It would have to be fun to wait tables there...never a dull moment. Your boys will definitely get a kick out of the entire experience.

What a delicious update! It's been almost 7 years since we've done a dinner at 50's Prime Time. Glad to hear it sounds just as delicious as when we went. Maybe I'll add it to our list of restaurants for our next trip. I only have until October 2012 to plan! Imagine the amount of things I can plan & re-plan & re-plan, etc, over the next 15 months! :lmao:

50's PT looks so much fun! I think its going on the list for our trip next year.

We did bkfst at H/V when we went a few years ago. I was planning on it again mainly for the fact that we'd be in the park before opening. My youngest 2 kiddos dont really like the Playhouse Disney shows as of yet, so I dont know how much they will enjoy it, but again...its all about being in the park before opening :)

:rotfl:You sound like us! I decide on one resort, then change my mind and choose another, then another...it's never ending! Are y'all planning on doing a resort/cruise again? Which resort do you have in mind?

I bet by the time y'all return, your kids will be into Disney Jr.....it took Jesse (my youngest) a while to REALLY want to watch it. But if they still aren't...no worries...they'll enjoy seeing characters and dancing around!:thumbsup2 And you are sooooo right...all about getting into the parks early:laughing: Just don't make my mistake:rolleyes:

:rotfl:You sound like us! I decide on one resort, then change my mind and choose another, then another...it's never ending! Are y'all planning on doing a resort/cruise again? Which resort do you have in mind?

I'm terrible....I constantly change resorts & ADR's! :lmao: I saw your picture in your signature for the resort changers club. I think I definitely need to join y'all! We're thinking we are just going to do a land trip next year. We've never been in October & I really want to do MNSSHP while Reid is still little. Then, we'll probably do another cruise in 2013.

As for where to stay....that's the hard part. I priced packages for Art of Animation, CBR (with a pirate room), POR (with a princess room), Poly & CR. Art of Animation was more than the moderates because they are suites, so that didn't make sense for my family of 3 so I ruled that one out. CBR & POR were the same price & are contenders. Poly was a little less than CR so Ed ruled out Poly because he would rather stay in the main building at CR. But, then him & I got to thinking that we really should utilize time we have with our Hilton timeshare. If we don't use the time, it will expire 12/12. The Hilton resort is really, really nice & very close to Disney. We've stayed there before & it worked out fine. So, we thought we had pretty much decided to there. But, then Ed came home the other night & we started talking about how nice it would be to stay so close to MK & have the monorail right there. Especially since we'll probably do 2 days in MK & 2 days in Epcot. But, our trip would cost a little more than 2x as much as staying at the Hilton resort. So, it looks like we're torn between those 2 options. Although, right now, the scale is tipping a little more on the CR side. I'm thinking we might just splurge & stay there. But, I'm sure I'll change my mind a million more times before it's all over! :confused3

YUM! We love 50s Prime Time too! When we were there last time, step dad had the chicken pot pie, and he raved about it! (which is rare ;)) I had the chicken ceasar salad which was also very good, and mom had your beloved fried chicken, and she LOVED it! We also had the onion rings to start, and we thought those were delish! I was the only one with a milkshake, and I got the standard chocolate, but it was AMAZING!!

I can't wait to see what the rest of your day brings!! :goodvibes

Yum! 50s looks great. I can't wait to try it someday but will wait until DD is a little older - because I don't think I would enjoy my meal if I had to spend the whole thing explaining why the servers were acting the way they were. :lmao:

Are you taking a stroller or renting one? DH thought Faith was old enough to walk, however he was glad I spent the extra money and got 2.

I have decided to rent a stroller. I think DD will want to do a lot of walking this year, but we can just park it and come back. I know I'm going to want it for getting out of Epcot at night and back to the hotel. But I'm sure she'll like to have it other times too. Hmmm, I should probably get around to reserving one.

Well...here's an idea....just stay for 2 solid weeks and do a split stay...you'll have everything knocked out super quick

:scared1: :lmao: Someday! Considering that right now it takes us two days to fly each way, it might be a while. :sad1:

:rotfl:Did you go over and check us out???!!! Great thread...lots of good discussion. I'll expect to 'see' you over there;)

I'm surprised that the CR priced out more than the Poly...were you doing a standard view at Poly and Tower MK at the CR? You can't beat either of them!! The easy walk to the MK is a super benefit. Although the Poly has the boat and monorail which makes it super easy to travel to the MK...I guess one of my only complaints about the CR was the line for the monorail....it was always so long!! Not sure why:confused: After staying onsite at the WL, do you think you would be completely happy offsite at the Hilton? Just food for thought:laughing: And be warned:rolleyes1...if you stay at one of the monorail resorts, they have the largest rooms at WDW...you will get spoiled!!!

Did you change your signature?? Looks different from what I remember...not that it matters, right!? I was just noticing that you stayed at POFQ a couple of times. This is one of the places that DH and I are considering for February...can't make up my mind. Thought it would be nice since we could take the boat to DTD.

You're right! When she's older, she will appreciate it lots more!! H&V would be a great place for her age:thumbsup2

Did you consider the Orlando Stroller Company? They are so awesome!! Smart move on deciding to get a stroller. I always feel so sorry for those little kids without one...by the end of the day, they can barely make it:sad2: Our little ones walked a bit, but got tired easily...so nice to have it standing by.

:scared1: :lmao: Someday! Considering that right now it takes us two days to fly each way, it might be a while. :sad1:

2 days?!? Wow! Where are you coming from?

Hollywood Studios Afternoon
Day 7

Lunch was fabulous once again…loved every minute of it…now it was time to hit a few more things before calling it quits for the day.

We headed over to the candy store…mom and dad wanted to speak to a lady that they knew who worked there. The place was a madhouse…people trying to get in out of the rain, I guess. Lucky for us…we still had our trusty ponchos and rain covers for the strollers!

DSC_4148.jpg

The 3 boys rode Rockin’ Roller Coaster. I can’t remember if they did this before or after lunch…oh well…DS10 wasn’t too sure about the ride. DH had to do some coaxing for him to ride. I sat this one out, too….the older I get, the less I can tolerate rollercoasters!

One thing that DH & DS10 aren’t crazy about is….

DSC_4157.jpg

I’m not sure why DD5 loves this ride so much, but she does!! In fact, she will tell you that it’s her favorite at WDW. She rode the thing last year when she was 4….honestly, I didn’t want her to, but she insisted. Well…she has loved it ever since.

While waiting in line, Faith decided that she was going to show me what her brothers would look like if they rode TOT….

DSC_4153.jpg

Would you believe that Pop and I had our cameras ready for pictures while ON the ride :rolleyes1

IMG_6413.jpg

IMG_6410.jpg

Believe it!.....

DSC_4156.jpg

After we got off, the line wasn’t long at all….so….Faith talked MaHopie into riding it one more time!...and they did! Pop and I took a break.

We all met up again and decided it was time to head back….we had a big evening planned!!! Plus…one of us was done, out cold, not moving a muscle….tired!

IMG_6456.jpg

Every time I see this picture, I laugh! The reason I crack up???....I’ve showed a couple of my “Non-Disney” friends and they look at me like I’ve lost my mind…and say…. “What are y’all doing!?” They don’t get it!!:rotfl: Acting like a kid at Disney is expected!! And makes the trip so much more enjoyable!

Photo0061FourBySix.jpg

On our way out, we realized it was almost time for the parade. So, we actually found a spot up close to the front on Hollywood Boulevard and squeezed in to wait. WDW changed this parade back in January…it used to be Block Party Bash…now it’s Pixar Pal’s Countdown to Fun!

There were lots of fun characters from all the popular Pixar movies…and characters that my 3 kids were very familiar with. I’m sorry Jesse didn’t get to see the parade, but we didn’t want to wake him….he needed a nap before the Neverland Club.

Very cute parade!! Sooooo glad we took the time to watch. After the parade, we jumped in car and headed back to the …..

DSC_4165.jpg

I know…a weird shot of the CR…but it’s a pretty cool building. If you’re in to the whole photography thing, then there are a ton of great angles to capture.

Up next….the Neverland Club and Victoria & Alberts!!!!

Oh man, I can't do the HS parade, it's so intense! (i.e. loud, bright, sensory overload kind of thing)

We love 50's PT also.
It is so much fun.
One of my coworkers went to WDW this past April.
He said when they were eating there were two girls at the table beside his family. He said the girls looked to be late high school/maybe college. They had their phones out texting.
Their server kept telling them to put those "fancy walkie talkies" away and eat their dinner!
I thought that was so funny!
btw - our DD was 5 when we went to WDW for the first time and we took a stroller for her. There is a lot of walking and like you said - it was nice for her to be able to just get in and relax while we got her to the next stop.
Can't wait to hear about your evening.
Amy

Okay....you're making me laugh:rotfl:..."I have an ADR here, but if we go here, but maybe here..." Spoken like a true RCer...the girls would be proud of you!
:thumbsup2

definitely come visit! You'll fit right in!

Heather I can't get DH to agree to go back to PrimeTime...I had to eat his veggies because he was scared to get yelled at. A grown man 6'2" scared of a waitress:rotfl:I did eat all his veggies on the sly.....:rolleyes1

I love the two of you with your cameras on ToT, how in the world did you both pull that off? AWESOME!

I did change my signature! Good catch! :thumbsup2 lol, Yes, we've stayed at POFQ a couple times- it was actually my first ever home in Disney when I was 3 years old! :goodvibes It is a great resort, although we have not stayed recently, I assume it hasn't gone downhill! POR is also a really nice resort! POFQ used to be my favorite (maybe because it was my first) but lately the Poly is top of the list! ;) It is Disney, so no matter where you stay, you'll have a great time! :thumbsup2
