Our first family trip to WDW is Monday, 3 days from now. Tuesday my DS (7) started feelin a little icky, he had diarrhea but nothing too bad. I gave him some watered down orange juice, saltines and he rested for a bit. He was feeling the same ickiness on Wednesday, it comes and goes. Today has gotten worse, he was fine in the morning but when he got home from school he was feeling terrible. The diarrhea has gotten worse, more intense, he is in the bathroom quite a bit. Yesterday his tummy did not hurt but it does now, mainly before he has to "go" then the pain decreases once he has "gone" but starts right back up again next time he has to "go". Sorry for the graphics! too much info. I'm assuming this is the stomach virus/bug that has been going around because he is hardly ever sick like this. We're keeping him hydrated and he hasn't lost his apetite. I'm taking him to the doc first thing in the morning to see if there is anything to help him feel better. The trip is up in the air for the time being. Him worrying about cancelling the trip is probably not making him feel any better :( but his health comes first, it's just so hard to explain that to a 7 yr old though.

I guess I am just asking for suggestions on how to make the little guy feel better and a little pixie dust! Please keep him in your thoughts.

I hope he feels better and that he gets over this bug before your trip. I'm sure he will blame himself if you are not able to go-...it is hard for young ones to understand that certain things can't be prevented. Pixie dust is headed your way in hopes that he gets better real fast. If you do get to go on your trip, have a safe and fun time.

I'd go to clear fluids and a BRAT diet. That's Bananas, Rice,Applesauce and Toast. Maybe just clear fluids for a
day. His system needs a rest. Also, acidolpholus to re-establish
things. Any health food store can help you with this, doctors
MAY know about it but many refuse to update themselves
on natural things.

I hope he's feeling better soon.

Bismuth (Pepto Bismol) tablets will relieve that kind of nasty bowel related cramping/runs, etc...Also if he experiences nausea dramamine (for children) will help quite a bit. I would suggest you take these remedies on vacation with you. They have saved me when I have been feeling like your son. Hope he gets better soon.

No suggestions. Just hugs and best wishes that your trip comes off okay on Monday! Hate for that count down timer to go to waste!

I second the BRAT diet. Don't lose heart. These things rarely last THAT long. Give your DS a big hug and keep a positive attitude.

Third vote for the BRAT diet and I say don't cancel your trip even if he is still feeling a bit icky (unless of course the doctor says he should not travel). Even if he has remnants of this illness on Monday (doubtful) it is unlikely that it will last much longer than that and you may find yourself home on Tuesday with a kid who is 100%. I would watch his diet while there, however to make sure his system is back to normal.

I would not cancel the trip either. As op said the BRAT diet works wonders on a system that needs a break. I definately would not be giving him OJ since its kinda harsh in the first place. See what the Dr. says and go from there and make sure you pack the meds others have suggested. I've had to take my DS 6 to WDW with strep throat twice-we just had our down days first to let him get back to normal and then we were off. Have a great trip!!!

I just hope for your sake that it is nothing serious! Is the pain pretty intense? DD just had her appendix out so I am sensitive about tummy ache! My DS will have more doctors visits for tummy aches than any other kid!!!

FYI Orange juice on a good day gives me diahrea, you might want to stay away from anything acidic.

Yes, do the BRAT diet and do NOT cancel the trip unless he is running a fever and/or vomiting.

My son had an illness like this that ended up lasting about 8 days. Turns out it was giardia and it ran its own course. Most diarrhea type illness don't last over a week and as long as he hydrated and still eating well, that's a good sign! I also agree with the acidopholus (sp) supplements.

My son (5) came down with a stomach bug a day after we checked in at WDW. He was out of it for 2 days, but snapped right back. This stomach thing usually runs its course pretty quickly. Keep his diet bland and ask the doctor if you can give him some Pepto Bismol or Immodium.
I know Immodium is safe for kids, I have used it for my son on occassion and it always works.
