I have reservations for Akershus (lunch), Tusker House (breakfast) and last day of vacation Crystal Palace (dinner). Is that too many character meals? I'm contemplating ditching Akershus and doing dinner at Chefs de France instead.

What say the experts? Our party consists of 3 adults (me, husband, my mother) and 6 kids (boys ages 17, 15, 13, 11, and twin girls 9).

How many days are you doing? I would say no, especially with 6 kids. Unless you are only going to be there for 3 days but even then I think it would be fine. Akershus is definitely one of my favorites as long as your 9 year olds are still into princesses. That would probably be the last one that I would change.

I am going with 2 little girls and we are doing 4 character meals (that's counting CRT and not counting BOG). I'm perfectly happy with it, but they are little guys. I don't think they're going to be excited about the other restaurants, and this visit is really all about them. I have been (myself) between 35 - 40 times, so I'm ready to live vicariously through someone else, lol!
It's really what you think your party will like. If the kids are older, they may not be into the characters that much. Sounds like you have some good reservations, though!

I hope that's not too many because then my reservations would be considered overkill. I'm aiming for a character meal each full day of our trip, so at least 5, but hopefully 6. :)

We are going for 11 nights and I am aiming for a grand sweep. I have booked 5 Character meals so far and have 3 more that I want!!!

If three is over Kill i am in trouble. I have 6 booked. One for each day of our trip. :cool1: And I am still chasing one more.... for the last meal before we leave on our half day.

Um. IMVHO no. Not at all. Not even a little too much. We do 3 a DAY! :rotfl:

It's fabulous and fun. :cool1:

Have a great trip!

DW and I are bringing DD4 for her first visit in February for 7D/6N stay and I am shooting for 8 character meals. We figure if she can meet a lot of them at meals then it will be easier to say no when the wait time is more than 20-30 min to meet someone in the park.

Just to present a dissenting opinion. I find more than one character meal in three days to be too many. (That is, if i were to do 3 character meals it'd be on a 10 day trip.) Character meals are fun and I always want at least one on a Disney trip, but I find eating with a camera in hand to be stressful. The flow of characters at Disney World does tend to be fairly well groups and the waiters tend to give advice on how soon or not they're expected to arrive. Yet I still find it a bit stressful. So, for every one character meals I need two for a regular rest from the park :)

They are all different characters so I don't think it's too many at all. This year we did Tusker, H & V, and CRT. I considered Akershus as well but we ended up wanting different foot at EPCOT
It's completely up to you - there is no right or wrong answer.

Thanks for the input- We'll be at the parks for 6 days (one day each at every park, then a second days at MK and EP)

I think it's too many because of your demographics. Character dining is a great way to interact and get autographs. However, your youngest is 9. Although they are probably still into princesses, they are on the border. Your older boys might be bored.

Agree...Usually our trips consist of two total. One of them being breakfast with Mickey and the other is a dinner with the princesses. I find it stressful as well and usually you can always count on the fact that if a meal has characters, the food will also be lacking.

I don't think so. We go for 10 days and I usually have 1900 PF, Chef Mickey's, CP, Akershus, H&V, TH, and GG scheduled on every trip. DD loves the character interactions (especially since we're not ones to wait in a line for an autograph and photo) and I enjoy the atmosphere too. It can be a bit hectic when the characters are in the vicinity but once one comes to the table, the others soon follow, and within 10-15 minutes I no longer have to worry about the camera or disruptions.

i think that your spot on. We liked them but not too many when the kids were small. Now we go to Crystal Palace just because. Have fun and make magical memories.

It is going to depend greatly on who you ask, but for me character meal serve two purposes 1) not having to wait in line to see the character in the park and 2) a break in the day out of the heat and hustle/bustle of the park. We will be there for 9 days and have 6 character meals...So I don't think 3 is too many by a long shot!

you can never have too many character dining experiences as long as its not cutting too much into park time.
i was there from 7/12-718 and i did 4 character dining experiences...
-chef mickeys for dinner on 7/12
-garden grill for dinner on 7/15
-1900 park fare for breakfast on 7/16 (pool day)
-cinderealla's royal table for dinner on 7/17 (second day at MK)

i would NOT cancel akershus.

With kids that age, you could probably easily get rid of Akershus or CP. I personally wouldn't get rid of TH, but that's one of our favorites!

ENJOY
