We are already thinking ahead to our 2004 vacation and have asked hubby's family if they would like to join us - points wise, the 3 bedroom at OKW would best fit the families' budget if we need to "buy/borrow" some points for the trip - I think we'd need about 20 or so.

Anyway, we are thinking of November and OKW is not our home resort (VWL is) so would this be near impossible to get? We are thinking the week of Veterans..... (not thanksgiving).

Has anyone tried to book a 3 bedroom at the 7th month window with any luck?? I just read the thread about hard to book resorts with interest...

thanks for any advice/direction..

Annette

leaving 8-16-03 for our first trip home :)

I tried for the friday and the whole week after Thanksgiving and had no success, could get a 2 bedroom and studio. I am waitlisted, so who knows!!! Maybe I will get lucky!

We were lucky with 5 nights (out of an original 7, but we eventually decided to stay with just 5) booked at 7 months out for the third week in October last year.

Good luck :)

I've put my name on the waitlist for a GV in June three summers in a row. The first and second time, we lucked out and were able to get the GV. The third time it didn't come through. I would think that June would be busier than mid-November, but I could be wrong. Call exactly at 7 months and if not available, get your name on the waitlist. The sooner you are on the waitlist, the better.

The GV’s are challenging to book even for those of us who have OKW as a home resort. There are so few of them. We have stayed in the GV twice, both times in May (once around Memorial Day). However, it has been a few years since we needed to book one (for the extra space) and I believe the demand is probably much greater than when we last booked it (1996 and 1998). A two-bedroom usually works fine for us and we’ve booked the GV only when more relatives decided to “come on down”! We anticipate this will happen in ’04. We’ve booked 2 two-bedroom units as well and this has worked well, too. As lovely as the GV’s are, I find them to be noisy due to the cathedral ceilings and hardwood floors. I actually prefer the 2-bedroom units for that reason. However, it is nice to have everyone under one roof and the GV’s are exceptionally beautiful.

Our challenge is pinning down people on the dates they’re available; calling at the 11-month point is the easy part! My extended clan does not understand that planning ahead is key; they think I have a hotline to Michael Eisner and can book at a moment’s notice! :-D

Thank you for the responses so far - we are planning on the grand villas if hubby's sister's family comes too - so we'd be 6 adults and 4 kids..... if not, a 2 bedroom is fine and we'll stay at home resort of VWL :)

thanks,

Annette

Here are the totals for GV's through DVC below.......

OKW-27 GV's
BW-7 GV's
VB-6 Beach Cottages
HH-5 GV's

SSR will be open by then, and that is suppose to have GV's also. We should find out the points "cost" in a few weeks, and hopefully some good info on room sizes. I have to believe they will be smaller than OKW and cost more. But at least you have another option on the way.

jaclark, I sent you a PM but figured I'd answer here also. My home is OKW, if interested we could swap res. I was thinking of VWL for next Dec. 2004. I could try for a GV at 11 months for you and swap for VWL in Dec. please contact me if interested.

Ummm .... a 2 bedroom will not be big enough for you as it only sleeps 8 people plus one under the age of 3 years old. You have 10 people. I would book a 2 BR and a Studio for your crew.

Robinb....the way I read the post was they woud be 6 adults and 4 kids IF sister's hubbie comes too...So, if he didn't come they would be 5 adults and 4 kids (I assumed...ridiculous of me I know) that at least one of the kids is under 3.....and they would fall within LEGEL limits....

Sorry about the confusion = our current plan is for my family of 5 and my hubby's parents go - I think we are still legal in the 2 bedroom at that point (4 adults and 3 kids). IF my sis in law goes, there are 2 more adults and 2 more kids so that would push us to the Grand Villa or the 2 bedroom and the studio. Money is tight for the in-laws so that is part of the issue as well.

you guys are great for all the help - someone wrote about the PM - I have to go find that!!

take care,
Annette
