Drat. I opened this thread hoping something funny to read while I'm waking up. Not that there weren't some funny posts, but I was hoping for a whole hilarious debate with parents defending their daughters' right to spend 3000 for prom dresses.
Nope, not around here anyway. DD went to two formal homecoming dances last fall--we paid $70 for TWO dresses. We found some great ones on sale--and she was tickled pink with both of them. She even wore one for the second time last weekend to a quincinera.
I can't imagine dd even asking for a $300 dress much less a $3000 one.
Heck, my wedding dress was only $250. First wedding, I bought a prom dress for $65, because it was white and poofy and looked like a wedding dress, lol.
I was thinking if this is what prom dresses cost, I'm VERY happy that I have two boys. I could buy both of them nice tuxes for around 500 bucks for both!
I grew up on Long Island where things tend to be more expensive than most places. We have this dress place called "Estelle's Dressy Dresses" and I paid $70 for my dress. I do believe I was the prettiest girl at the prom.
I love Estelle's. They really have the best dresses for good prices. I had to go there in December for a cocktail dress and I saw some of the most beautiful prom dresses. If only I had somewhere to wear one...
Yeah, even here on LI (where everything seems to be more expensive ) $3000 on a prom dress is NOT the norm. The most I heard of a girl spending was $300. Even that seems like a little much to me. But what do I know, I found my dream dress for $89!
