2nd grade projects(dioramas)

Just be sure it ends up looking like a 1st grader did it. Help her brainstorm ideas, materials-guide her but don't give her the ideas. The actual work should be hers.

It's always easy to tell which projects were done mostly by the parent, and which were done by the child.

Our kids tend to do these kinds of projects at school - they are in 3rd grade and not one has come home yet.

They studied Canada in 2nd grade and did several group projects for their Canada Night presentation. Some were done in art class, some in the regular classroom. I liked that the art teacher could include their other studies in her curriculum.

DD9 decided to do a diorama of a Canadian farm scene on her own as part of her group's presentation. I let her and DD8 work on it together, with little help from me - mostly in helping them find materials. Their finished product was not perfect, but it was clear they had done it on their own. I was proud of them.

My DS had to do one in 1st grade and it was of a Magic Tree House book about the Titanic. I may even have a picture. He had fun doing it. We had a Titanic from our fish tank that we used. We spray painted cotton balls blue and put them on the bottom and placed the Titanic in the middle. He made an iceberg out of some sort of Crayola stuff that sort of hardened. Then he took little pistachio shells and glued them on the blue cotton so it looked like the little lifeboats. HE did most of the work, I just helped him with the spray painting since I didn't want blue everywhere, he was only 6! And I also helped him with making sure the box was covered correctly, he did everything else. (which really wasn't that much since we had the Titanic already!)
