2br lock-off to a studio question

We have a trip booked where BIL/SIL are coming down to join us for a portion of the trip. They have not booked flights yet, and SIL is slightly constrained because she's a teacher and will be using vacation days for this trip. They are planning on flying in on Thursday night, but right now it looks like Friday morning may be significantly less expensive.

ANYWAY. DH and I are booked for 2 nights in a studio, 4 nights in a 2br lo, 1 night in a studio. However, if BIL/SIL choose to fly in on Friday instead of Thursday, I would prefer to change the reservations from 2 nights/4 nights/1 night to 3/3/1 to free up points. The problem is, there are no studios available for that night I am thinking about switching. Except *we* have a studio because of the 2br lock-off room. Is there a way for MS to separate that studio from the 2br lo so that we aren't gambling with losing a room altogether for that night? It's during Marathon Weekend, so I'm not anticipating much of anything opening up for availability.

While there have been an occasional time when they have done that, most of us have been told no because it’s not supposed to work that way since what you reserved was the two bedroom.

If they allowed it regularly, then those waiting on a 2 bedroom via waitlist would have a much harder time.

Plus, your studio may not necessarily be the same studio, when room assignments would be made as the one with your lock off.

No because it's part of 1 reservation. Just keep it because trying to find a studio for marathon weekend is going to be really hard.
Makes sense. I just wasn't sure if I could do that sort of modification through a phone call. It's hard to even explain what I'm would try to do so it makes sense to other people. It's not something we *need* to do, but it would be nice to be able to get the 20ish points back to have available for maybe a weekend trip at another time.

Yeah, that makes sense as well. I was pretty confident it wouldn't be possible, but we are only on our 2nd year of owning, so we don't have all of the "what-if" and "can-i" situations figured out yet.

Just so you know, w/ your current reservation you may end up moving 3 times. While it would be nice to keep that studio for all 7 nights w/ just the 1 br. added for the middle four nights, there’s no guarantee that will happen. To reduce that possibility I’d ask MS to note those reservations are a continuing stay & I wouldn’t make any other location requests, I’d also chat w/ the front desk about it when you arrive at the resort.

Yes. I had asked about that a month or so ago. I'm going to request it via email and then when we arrive (in person.) It's not a huge deal for us to move as we will have a rental car and just toss our stuff in there for a few hours if we do end up being between rooms. We have moved 4x in one race weekend (4 different resorts too!) and we won't do that again. I have no problem working out of a carry-on for 2 days before we unpack more fully.

To add, don’t forget about holding penalty that would happen if you tried to change it less than 31 days until check in.

Yep. That's one reason why we are actively working to get BIL/SIL locked down for details for this trip. He like to wait and wait and wait to buy plane tickets, so I've been watching flights to find a good enough deal for them that he'll just DO IT (which, I think I did yesterday, but they're about to go on an anniversary trip to HI and I'm not sure if he wants to also pay for airfare for a trip that's not for another 5mo.

Do you have the extra points available to waitlist or stalk that one night in studio?

If you do, you could hold both since you have a long time before you hit 31 days.

We don't have any extra points. So it's a rather tricky situation, hence my question about having MS do it so I could negate risk of losing that day altogether.
