We come down I95 from Virginia to the Fort and I was wondering if anyone has used the 295 bypass around Jacksonville? We are trying to find out if it is really a time saver. We have a 12 hour drive and we always catch that traffic? Thanks!

Use the bypass!! Trust me I live in Jax. 95 is always a frickin mess. You will be happy you didn't come thru town.

Ii agree. We always use the bypass. It looks longer if you go by the milage, but time and traffic... it is alot easier. Patsy:goodvibes

All the way from about Dunn Avenue (right after 295) and Baymeadows Road on 95 (just before 295 meets again) you're going to be hating pulling a camper. I hate driving my truck with nothing thru there so I know you will too. As long as there is nothing going on the Buckman Bridge you're ok. I would suggest not attempting to go north on 295 until after 0930. That's a whole another story. Right now I can't think of any construction or planned work so go that route.

So, is that a for or against using 295?

I do deliveries on 295 every day and it is nothing but a race track. There might be construction at the 95/10 and 95/trout river bridge but it is shorter and the traffic speed is more reliable. If I were going to go around Jacksonville on the beltway I would go the other way and go 9A which goes the east side around... shorter and in better shape as most is newer than 295 and you have one slowdow at a intersection that is being made to connect 9A to JTB. I'd go 9A anytime over 295.

There was a similar post on here before and I said the same thing. Please people who live in Jax. don't tell these poor people to take 9A. It is a beautiful ride and very seldom has any slow traffic but where 9A and Butler Blvd. are being connected is a total cluster. I live about 2 miles from this intersection and I cut thru Univ. of North Florida to get home because the light causes huge backups. If you go 95 thru Jax the main areas to watch for right now is from about where 295 splits all the way to the I-95/I-10 interchange. It's a total mess right now. When you see a silver color bridge where 10 and 95 split make sure you get in the left lanes because you will soon be on I-10 westbound before you know it and the it's another cluster *^$# that will soon P you off. 295 is pretty much 3 lanes wide all the way and I don't know why that would be a problem to travel on. My advice for those who 2nd guess what I'm saying go ahead and try 95 south thru Jax and then go back 295 unless you liked your first trip. When 9A is complete I will make sure I inform you fine folks from the north. I too believe it will be a nice route to bypass town if the construction stays like it is.

25 miles through town. 35 miles through by-pass.

We pulled our 30' TT through town last time and will do it again. But, the last time was around 9:30 am on a Saturday.

I will be using 295 around JAX. But to expand further, is there another way to Disney rather then getting back onto 95 to I-4? I would love to skip I-4. Maybe a backway?????Stacktester???Stacktester????

I've heard that some take the 417 around Orlando, especially if they are towing a trailer or in a MH. It's looks to be about 17 or 18 miles further, and is a toll road (at least $6 I think, maybe $12..?), but it may be a good way to avoid getting "aggravated". It would probably depend on when you were coming through. We'll be leaving for FW in 10 days, and I'm considering using it just to see what it's like...

I go 95 to I-4. I can direct you to I-75 to the turnpike but that route I'm sure would not be a good one. I can just say that going the bypass is the right way to direct you thru here. It's only my opinion but you try 95 and let me know. If it's on a weekend you're coming thru then it might be a good route to go thru Jax but not on a weekday.
