The sun came up, way too early for the amount of sleep I had. Most of the night my mind was in overdrive, thinking, which for me can be dangerous.
I need to backtrack, just a little.
We are all aware that this trip had been postponed due to Grampys illness. What you dont know is that Grampy had been having some symptoms before we left home. We had visited several Drs and they needed to perform some tests. Tests that we had decided to postpone till we got back. Then as always happens, when it rains it pours, I got a little bit of a medical scare myself also postponed till our return. This information we kept to ourselves. We didnt share with our children, families or friends, not even Jkay and R. There were only 2 other people that knew of the situation before we left. My lifelong best friend, back in NJ, and what feels like my other lifelong best friend, the Fixer. I wanted to call one of them badly during the night, but common sense got a grip on my head, and I refrained. Most of the night was spent on did you do the right thing?
With the morning came a realization. The same one that Grampy and I had discussed before we left. Christmas in Disney happens once a year. We had already missed last year. We were not missing this one. Yep, we had some stuff waiting for us back home. It was going to wait.
I jumped up and showered, dressed and beat my feet to the concierges desk. Grabbed some Java and literally ran back to the room. For those of you that are wondering, my idea of running and yours might not be the same. Grampy was still sound asleep. I kicked those
crocs off, crawled into bed with Grampy and woke his sleeping butt up. We are going to Kona (finally) for breakfast, rise and shine, it is a great big beautiful tomorrow!
I made sure everyone was getting ready and started the search for my beloved cane. 1st stop back to the front desk was it there? Nope. They called AKL to see if it was there. Nope.
This is info for future use. Each hotel has a lost and found. There is a lost and found at each park. Central Lost and Found is where everything eventually ends up. If you left something on a bus, it goes to central lost and found. They dont open till 9, BTW. The number was placed into my cell and I would just call later.
After checking that everyone back in the rooms were reasonably healthy, happy and at least dressed, I began to relax. We had already accomplished most of what was contained on the lists, both the written and brain contained one. Everything from now on was gravy on the potatoes. Considering my dark mood all night, I was surprisingly chipper and happy. Just looking at Grampy made me smile this morning. In the big scope of things, I am infinitely blessed and I realize it.
We jumped on a bus and headed towards the Magic Kingdom, hopped on the monorail and made our way to the Poly. Had it only been days since we were here last? The second the doors opened to the lobby, my happy smell smacked me. I do believe that is my number one scent related WDW memory - it gives me goose bumps. I have mucho memories from lots of trips that are centered right here. Entering the Poly never fails to make me smile.
We were seated in the exact same spot we were in Saturday night. Breakfast was wonderful and relaxing. I indeed had the fruit platter and Java juice. Fruit never tasted so good. We didnt rush at all and I think that was the best part. We talked and laughed and there were 4 very happy friends at the table. R was still suffering from a sore throat and Grampy was feeling so-so but breakfast was heads above dinner.
I snuck out to call Lost and Found. The wonderful CM that answered the phone was a hoot. I described the utensil, sun bleached paisley print cane, well worn, permanently indented fingerprints in the handle. Low and behold, he said he was holding it in his hand, she had just arrived. Yes, she has a name, doesnt everyone name their cane? Come on over and get it!
Our little foursome had discussed the days plan over our kicked back breakfast. Grampy and R had a little mission (a surprise for Jkay for Christmas) and Grampy was going to take R on the water tour that he and I had taken back in October. That consisted of the boat to Magic Kingdom, boat to WL, boat back to MK and then to the hotel for a siesta. They would meet us at the Contemporary for dinner at the Concourse Steakhouse. Jkay and I would go to lost and found and then the MK to finish up Girls Gone Wild part 2.
We parted ways and the guys did this.
When they returned to ASSports they found this.
Jkay and I hopped on the monorail and made our way to lost and found. I told the CM that I was there to pick up my friend. He got a strange, odd look on his face. Reached behind him and handed over my beloved. I was thrilled for about ½ a second until I realized it wasnt my Betsy. The CM said I knew you were going to say that. Seems some other very lovely, nice, middle aged lady had just picked up her almost identical walking utensil. The CM had assured her it was the only one of its kind in lost and found and he had convinced her to take it. She hadnt been out the door 2 minutes when the 2nd well worn sun bleached, permanently indented fingerprints in the handle, cane had showed up. The CM convinced me to take the replacement Betsy, and told me to love it like my own.
Jaky and I walked out of lost and found and had a little talk with Betsy2. I could tell she had come from a lovely home and assured her she would be well taken care of in her later years. We jumped on the ferry and started the trek to the MK. We had all afternoon to play and we werent missing a moment of it. I whispered to Betsy2 that we would be on the lookout for her real Momma. I can play a mean I spy with my little eye.
Up next How much fun can we have in one afternoon?
