Prologue:
The trip began 26 years ago. I met a lovely young lady while attending Virginia Tech. Yes, she was engaged to a friend of mine, but Im a 20 year old college male, so that didn't matter. He wouldnt give her the engagement ring anyway, so you couldnt call it "official". Sitting in my buddies apartment late one Friday evening, the smell of beer filling the room, this lovely lady says Lets go see the Rocky Horror Picture Show Tonight!. Her pseudo-fiancée poo-poos the idea as childish. So a young ZDad speaks up and says .Sure lets go ! Thats where the whirlwind began.
On Friday it was The Rocky Horror Picture Show. On Monday it was her Birthday. On the following Friday, I went to her dorm to study and asked her to marry me. Zmom, being young (19) and naïve, didnt think I was serious. So every day from there forward, I asked the same question. A couple of months later, Zmom turned to me and said YES. We were married the following January, less than a year after we first went out.
(BACKSTORY: Zmom and the pseudo-fiancée really were supposed to get married. In fact they had bought the ring. You see, Zmom worked in the jewelry business and she had picked out a particular antique ring as the one she wanted as an engagement ring. Well, who am I to not give her what she wants? After much discussion, argument, and haggling, I purchased the ring from pseudo-fiancee, and presented it to her as her engagement ring. She wears it proudly today.)
Fast forward 26 years. Its 2007, and we are celebrating 25 years of marriage. We thought about going on a trip on our actual wedding day, but thats in January, and the boys are wrestling for the High school at that time. We didnt take our first Honeymoon in January anyway. Zdad had to be back at work the next Monday, so we postponed our Honeymoon to Disney Worlds Polynesian Hotel until April of 1982. Well then, lets do the same thing this time.
So there you have it. We are about to do a trip report on our 25th Wedding Anniversary trip. A trip, like the original Honeymoon, that was delayed 4 months.
Next up: Getting There, or Why I hate USAir, and The Sweet sounds of Welcome Home
This is Zdad and Zmom in June 1981. Zdads college graduation day. We were married less than six months later.
