DH and I just returned from our B2B EBTA and 11-night Med cruises. It truly was an amazing trip of a lifetime and I am so thankful we were able to do it! The only trouble is that now we have done 25 days, DH says 7 days is too short.
Well, let's get started! Since sea days are pretty basic, and there were 11 on this trip, I will only be doing port reports, unless something special happened. Enjoy!
DAY 1: Port Canaveral/Embarkation
The original plan was to stay at CI&S the night before, but I could never find a price I liked, so we just ended up having DMiL drive us down to Port. We met my dad, aunt and grandmother at the Residence Inn, and had a pretty basic buffet breakfast. But, the six of us eating together made for a nice start to the trip.
After breakfast, DMiL dropped us off at Port and after giving our bags to the porter, we were off to check-in. We were there at about 9:45 and let in after a short wait. DH wanted to try for an upgrade as we booked a Cat 12GTY, and were upgraded to a Cat 10, but DH wanted a porthole. I am unsure of weather they priced from a 12 to a 9, or a 10 to a 9, but for the two of us for 14 days, it was $400. Now, $400 was a good price, but there was no way to know if we could do the same for the 11-night. As it was now, we were in the same room for both cruises, and I did not want to pack and unpack in the middle of the trip, so we turned it down. Looking back, we should have done it, but hindsight is 20/20.
So, after we checked in, we waited to board. I was looking for characters to come out, but I never saw Chip and Dale, or Captain Mickey which are usually pre-boarding staples. I was a little disappointed, but I was looking forward to the cruise, so I didn't let it bother me too much. We actually had a short wait to board as we were in group 4, and were on the ship being welcomed aboard by 12:30.
Lunch in PC was good, and we shared a table with a couple of really nice dis'ers. This was the first of a wave of great people we met on the ship. Everyone we met were so nice and really fun. The people really made this trip so much more enjoyable.
After lunch DH and I went to verify our dining requests and saw our previous dining room server (Katerina from Czech Republic) in a Palo uniform!
We had requested her as our server on this cruise, but obviously that was out. But, we made sure to request her for our brunch and dinner at Palo. We also verified out request for a table to ourself had been fulfilled, and we were off.
It was about 2:00PM, so we went to check on our luggage and get ready for the lifeboat drill. Thankfully, everything made it to the ship okay, and we were off to AP. After the drill, DH and I decided to participate in the sail away party, a first for us. We are not usually loud music/dancing and large crowds kind of people, but felt like it today as it was a special cruise for us. I am really glad we did, as they gave out streamers with the date and type of cruise printed on them that I saved as a keepsake of the cruise. It was a great start to and incredible adventure!
We had second seating diner, so the show for us was at 6:15. By the time the sail away party was over and we got back to our room, we chose to skip the first show. We have seen it plenty of times, and it is not one of the the best. Instead, we rested a little and freshened up for the evening.
Our first dinner was in PC, and it was pretty good. Except for DH's steak. He could not even take one bite, it was too hard to even cut a piece off. So, he did not have a main course. But, our server (Percy from Peru) and assistant server (Jess from Canada) were great, so the meal was not a complete loss. After dinner, the adult entertainment was a group game, 'Icebreakers' that DH and I were not really interested in, so we went back to the room. DH ordered a cheeseburger from room service to make up for his steak, but it came way undercooked and really pink. By that time he had had enough, so we just went to bed, hoping the cruise would pick-up (hint: it did).
NOTE: I am still going through everything and unpacking, so pictures will be added a little later.
