$25,000... where & how much...???

If we were to get a gift of $25,000 then DH could pick the resort, for wherever he wants to hit the 1000 point mark, (we're at 855). The rest we would try keep for the maintenance fees for the future. Most likely however, I would be using it for family passes.

own a little at BWV and VWL - alot at oKW

so would add AKV 60 points, BCV 60 points

then put the rest away to pay maintence for it.

the ap is a good buy right now - so the passes are covered for a year - but getting there....

I suppose it's a crazy way to do it, but I think I would split it into 4 parts and buy 60 pts (or so) at each of: OKW, BWV, WLV, and AKV...one for each of the 4 kids to use...we have 100 VB pts and are working on 30 OKW pts resale, which will be CLOSE to enough for just the 2 of us if we don't have to SHARE anymore.:goodvibes

Wow..that's easy. :) I would find a family that I knew without help, would never be able to take their family to Disney and purchase them around a 220 point contract (that should get a them a week or so somewhere) and the remaining money (if any) I would add some points to our contract.

I get more out of giving than I do getting....

ok Esmerlda...make the rest of us look bad!! ;)

Of course you are right, but my first inclination would be to purchase a resale contract at OKW. 25K would purchase around 330 pts. :goodvibes

I would add another 270 points at AKV. That's enough to stay a week concierge in a two bedroom during low season.

That wasn't my intention Amy5000, its just that I feel so blessed that I am able to take my family for at least a week each year. I feel so very bad for kids that have never seen Disney nor will they ever see Disney because their families just can't afford it. (and we know many)

A very close friend of mine (whom is a single mom of a teen daughter) is traveling to WDW late April of 2007. Her daughter is in some sort of dance competition at the Disney WW Sports. She said the only way she could afford it was to either stay waaay offsite (as in like a Motel 6 for $40 per night) or pitch a tent somewhere. I felt so bad that I talked it over with my hubby and we gave them 4 nights in a studio at OKW. That would get them thru the weekend plus a few extra nights (as she had mentioned they wanted to stay longer) She cried when I told her. She said no one had ever done anything like that for her. We weren't using all of our points next year so we were very happy to do it.

It makes my heart sing to do nice things for nice people  I, hopefully, have taught my kids this over the years. One can only hope! (anyone ever seen the movie called "Play it Forward" ) :)

Happy Holidays,
Esmerelda

That was really a wonderful thing to do!! When you described it I immediately thought of "Pay it Forward". (Don't know if you've ever heard of Flylady, but she's big on the "pay it forward" philosophy). I know some people like to do it at Christmas time, but I think it's just as good of a philosophy all year long.

At this point, I'd "keep my powder dry" and not buy anything.
Perhaps, if, after research, you wish to pursue this, a possible CR DVC location maybe the best "investment".

That would be perfect for what we would love to do:
40 more points at BCV
100 points at Grand California Villas
100 points for either Contemporary or Hawaii

Assuming cost is around 100 a point I would buy 2 40 pt contracts at the following three DVC resorts:

Contemporary
Grand Californian
Hawaii

I am trying to talk DH into selling our VWL and BCV to buy CR and Hawaii. I think that those two will really need the 11 month window.

I would love to add points at BWV or BCV to be near Epcot for Food & Wine. And then since our current points are at SSR, which we love, I would probably add more points so that we could stay in a two bedroom when we are there.

I would add on more at VB, HHI, and SSR. It is important as others have mentioned to keep a reserve for those maintanence fees. I know, just being practical.:thumbsup2

I would add on some more at OKW, then about 100 at DGC, with the rest going to fees and passes..lovely fantasy!

I only have enough money to buy 100 points at EITHER GCV or CRV. Now I won't have to decide. With the 25K from you I can buy 150 points at each and still have some sheckles left over for member fees! Thanks. :yay:

I would add 100 pts. on to my BWV and hold out the rest for CRV. I love the Epcot and Monorail resorts!
