..

I have to admit I always wondered if I would die if I jumped from the second story window of my house. I suppose you could if you hit the right spot (or be paralyzed).

Glad he's ok! Must have been terrifying for you though.

I'm so glad he's ok! That must have given you a heartattack!! When we were kids, my brother decided to "fly" down our stairs like superman and broke his arm (he was in costume and all!). Boys!;)

Made me feel  just imagining that! I'm so glad he's okay. By five you start to think they might not be quite so impulsive anymore, and then they do something crazy like that...

Thanks for the well wishes guys!!! I also thought that at 5 yrs. old he would know better.... but I guess now *I* know better! And I almost faint when I think about the fact that I could have lost my baby boy today... :sad1::sad1:

When my son was a baby, I read a book called "Bringing Up Boys" by James Dobson. He said that one difference between boys and girls is that girls look at a dangerous situation and think, "I might get hurt if I do this." A boy will look at the same situation and think, "I might not get hurt." It's so true! Boys are just wired differently!

Thankful that your little one is ok. Could there be bars on his window in the near future? ;)

Oh huney so sorry I know how you feel as mine did the same thing when he was 3! :scared1:

I thought I was going to die when i saw him on the ground. So glad your little one is ok

Mine is just fine too but he thought he was superman after that and he couldn't get hurt so watch him b/c he may think the same thing! :scared1:

I told mine all the time that he was going to give mommy a heat attack before she was 25!

Some friends of ours told us about when their son was two and fell out of their second floor window. They thought he had died, but luckily the shrubs broke his fall.

I am glad your son is fine. I'm sure that was very scary.

Oh, how awful. I can't imagine how ill you felt when you realized what he had done. Thank the Lord he is going to be all right. You're in my prayers.

I'm so glad he's okay, and than you survived without keeling over from a heart attack!!

Oh My Gosh.....I am so glad he is ok....give yourself a little time to recover....and consider those window bars!

Wow, glad he is okay.
I have read that children do not comprehend danger until around the age of
9, they will dart out into the street chasing a ball without thinking and other crazy things.

WOW!! I bet you about had a heart attack!!!! :(

I have a 7 yr old boy and well, I wouldn't put it past him either. I joke that he's going to naturally selective himself out of this world if we don't watch him. He's impulsive and is prone to the same sort of just plain old stupid boy stuff LOL. No jumping out of windows luckily but sometimes I watch him and can see by the look on his face he's thinking about something pretty crazy/stupid...I have to remind him what could happen to him LOL. He has tried to jump from the top step to the bottom step before...thinking he could jump that far, and he has broken his arm jumping off the top of a slide. Luckily it was a small slide.

I took him for a check up yesterday and the resident doctor told me the #1 cause of death for his age is an accident.

Not bars on the windows, necessarily - but some type of 'block' that prevents him from opening any window enough to get out?

Thank heavens he wasn't injured; frankly, once your heart gets back to beating at its normal rate - August, maybe? - I don't see that there's anything "wrong" with him. He's adventurous and experimenting. Overly so, sure, I get that completely. I'm sure he better understands now that there can be consequences for his actions. Maybe this is a good time to discuss the basics of gravity?

And I thought finding my 5 year old on the garage roof was scarey! We should start a support group- "Mom of Danger Boys" :scared1:

Glad he's okay!!

OMGosh! Glad he's okay! That so sounds like something my 5 year old would do! That's why there are child safety locks on our windows upstairs and no matter how hot it gets....those window stay shut!

Count your blessings!

I'm glad he is ok. I have a story about a girl, not a boy, and she was 12, not 5. My dd is extremely intelligent but sometimes she just doesn't think. She does trampoline and tumbling. We were in a hotel the night before States last year. We had a 1 bedroom, so she was in the bedroom watching TV and I was in living room. I was just getting ready to tell her that it was time to go to practice at the gym where they would be competing.

I heard a little thud. Suddenly I hear this strange sound almost like a goat bleating "Ma-ma". By the time I got up she had opened the door. She had been flipping on the bed and slammed into the window. The window didn't break, but the marbles sills were very sharp. Blood was pooling at her feet and her shins were sliced open. 5 hours later after, 911, ER visit from hades, many stitches, IV, etc we got back to the room.

Next morning as I am packing to leave, I look out of that window. We were on the 3rd floor, and as I looked out all I saw was pavement and cars below. That day I thanked God for not allowing that window to break and for that marble window sill that stopped her momentum.

I'm so glad he is ok, but be very careful. You would think they learn their lesson, but 3 days later doing a follow up visit with dd's doctor at home (on the day we were supposed to be leaving for our vacation to Domincan Republic) and he asked her if she had learned anything from it. She said, "Yes. Tumble AWAY from the window.":confused3:lmao:

So I would take precautions as others have suggested, such as blocking the windows, etc.
