yep - low iron was our case. She had been eating just not the right kinds of things. A few lessons on nutrution and we were good to go.

I have a fainting dd and I can say that if you dd fainted for shots before, it was probably because of the topic in biology class plus all the overwhelming excitement & headache.

Now that being said, I would get her an echocardiogram just to be on the safe side if it happens again.

My dd has had 2 echos and an EEG to rule out seizures. Her fainting spells can look like a seizure.

Her diagnosis is vasovagal syncope. Her last fainting spell was a month ago at the oral surgeons.

She did have a bagel and two Danactiv yogurt drinks for breakfast, so food was not an issue.

This combo is about 75% - 80% sugar/carbs. That is NOT a good choice. Was her blood sugar/glucose level tested at all?

Is DD having her period? She could be anemic/low iron.

Oh I love you guys. Thank you for your quick responses....it really helps me when I am feeling this anxiety!

My daughter is not having her period this week so I can rule this out.
I didn't think that the breakfast might be too much carbs/sugars so that is good to know.

I am not sure about low iron...my daughter refused to give blood when I asked the doctor if we could test for random things. In fact, my daughter started crying...she is absolutely TERRIFIED of being at the doctor's office (No exaggeration...I have never seen anyone quite like this)

I am going to check on her upstairs....Ughhh.I feel like I just brought a newborn baby home or something...SHEESH!

My DS15 gets dizzy spells and has fainted a couple of times. I have taken him to the doctor and he didn't seem to think it was a big deal either. He said to make sure that DS eats and drinks enough water and that when he gets up he can't just pop up he has to do it slowly. The dizzy spells have gotten less and less over the last year or so. I'm glad to hear that another doctor is saying the same thing as ours.

I had this prob when i was in middle/high school... I didn't drink enough water... I still dont today.. I remember once i was at a track meet about to run the 100m and passed out right before the start!! good thing I was already on the blocks :) i was 13 then

Oh brother that is some pretty extreme anxiety.

My dd will faint for medical procedures.

I would get your dd some counseling because she is going to have to learn how to deal with her anxiety. It can be done, my dd is living proof.

I'm wondering if the headache had more to do with it. Does she have an earache, too? Maybe it set her equilibrium off.

Or if the headache is also accompanied by a sinus cold, or sinus allergies, she just may not be getting enough oxygen stuffed up sinuses. If she did hold her breath in class because her bio teacher was explaining something icky :crazy2: maybe the combo may have been too little oxygen for her and she passed out.

Ah yes I used to drop like a fly in High school. They took me for all kinds of tests- Cat Scans ect.. Everything normal.
The final diagnosis was it was probably hormonal changes in my body. It went on for about 2 years then just stopped. I have only fainted once since then. It used to freak out my friends though- because I wouldn't just faint- I had convulsions on the ground too.

Yep, last year I was walking in the parking lot and talking to my teenage son when I realized he wasn't next to me. I turned around and I could see his feet sticking out from behind a car. I thought "What is that crazy kid doing now?" Well, he had fainted! My husband is a doctor and did a couple tests but was never too worried. He ended up being fine. Follow your doctor's orders but don't worry too much!:goodvibes

Now see that is vasovagal syncope. It has many triggers from anxiety to dehydration.

My dd's is more anxiety/fear triggered.

This happened to DD in 5th grade. She at her usual breakfast. She wasn't dehydrated. She helped with the morning show at school. Well, when they were about to go to class. The librarian/show director saw dd go to pale white and start towards the floor on her way about to pass out.

the nurse came and I was called. Went to the dr, nothing abnormal. But I think it was hormonal changes. When I was young and about to start my period, I would get like that.

Hope everythng is all right with your DD, OP!

My daughter, 14, has fainted several times and was referred to a cardiologist who said that she may just need more water than other people. During one time period when she fainted and then felt dizzy a lot, she had just experienced a growth spurt and he thought that might have something to do with it also. DH drives her crazy during the summer telling her to drink water all the time.

OP please don't worry.

My fainting started in my teens - just a combination of growing, hormones, naturally low blood pressure and an overactive imagination in biology lessons leading to squeamishness which will also impact on blood tests.

There are techniques to combat it including making sure she eats regularly and makes sure she's always hydrated. When she can recognize the symptoms she can avoid actually fainting by sitting with head between legs or lying down.

i was around 12 or 13 when i fainted in the shower :scared1: luckily my mom was in the bathroom doing her hair while i was showering, and i told her "something's not right, i don't feel right!" so she came in and picked me up.

there's a lot of things that can trigger fainting. her blood sugar could have gone low for some reason, she might have been nervous about shadowing at the new high school, etc. if it happens again that's when i'd be worried.
