I just got back from taking my dog to the doggie park and once again he went around and was licking every dogs private area, he doesn't seem that interested in playing as he does with going directly for any private area and licking the dog to death. Does anyone know why he is doing this and how I can break him of it???

I know dogs smell each other butt to get to know them but he goes right to the private area's and starts licking them to death.

OP, I'm sorry I don't have any advice, but I'm glad you're seeking it, because there there are a couple of dogs at our dog park that do the same thing to my poor dog. I'll be interested in what the dog experts here have to say!

Yes he is neutered. Why? I'm really curious why a dog does this and what I can do to stop it. I've tryed googling this and you can just imagine what all has come up...none which was helpful.

Maybe you can teach him the "leave it!" command.

It is a submissive behavior. In the wild, it would show submission to other dogs higher in the pack.

Keep him on a leash and redirect him with commands. Praise when he doesn't do it.

The way you talk to him and interact with him should be low key, too. Loud type corrections and interactions only serve to reinforce his submissiveness. Keep your voice firm, but not loud.

My dog is a dominant female and a Lickee. It's annoying when she's trying to walk and has another dog up her butt, lol.

Why was this question asked? Because intact and neutered dogs often have different behaviors. If he was intact, the answer would most likely be different than for a neutered dog.

Since he is neutered, my answer would be - he is a dog. 'Nuff said.

This. My Newfie feels the need to hold down smaller dogs ( and really, all dogs are smaller to her!) and clean their ears. We've been working on this in her classes, and now when she heads towards one, I say "Leave it!" and she keeps on going. I personally think they all just have very poor grooming habits, but their owners frown upon poor Fluffy being held down.
