We were at WDW the leap year 24hour day. It was well worth going.
For us, it was arrival day. to make a long story short...we had very little sleep prior to our WDW arrival. We only lasted until about midnight/maybe 12:30am.
If we go to WDW, and MK is open past midnight, we are usually there. Being in the parks late at night is super fun, in my opinion.
normally after midnight we can walk on rides. During the 24hour night, it was still pretty busy at 11pm. Rumor here was that the event was popular with the Epcot/HS/AK CM's to visit the parks. When their shifts were over that day, many went to MK.
So no, it was not a 'normal' MK day, but we didn't expect it to be a normal evening. Since it was our arrival day, we actually didn't think we'd make it to MK at all. I am SO glad we did! The feeling in MK was awesome! It was very electric! WDW sold special shirts, and gave out free buttons. We did not buy a shirt, but it was great fun all week seeing the shirts, and knowing we were a part of the fun! I'm not normally a big button fan, but those ones are pretty special!
What you should do is keep your plans in place. I think you said BOG is part of your plan...I don't recall if you said lunch or dinner. No way would I go there for lunch (that day or ever, but especially a day like that) dinner with an ADR will be fine! Mentally, it will be helpful to modify your expectations. Take a go withthe flow approach. You wont' be able to walk onto Space Mtn, but so what? Going that day will be a special memory in itself, if you allow it to be a special memory!
If however, you only see it as a negative....then swap. if everyone is at MK that day...the other parks will be less crowded. You might also strongly consider hopping. Just hop to MK for the BOG dinner.
Then again...BOG is neat to see and all...but the food was all that outstanding. A meal at 1900 Park Fare will have better food and actual princesses.
