:confused3can anyone tell me why the swan and dolphin resort doesnt offer the magic express service to and from the airport

another ? why is it called disneys swan and dolphin:confused3

They're not called "Disney's Swan and Dolphin." They are called "The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin" to identify with their on-property location. They are, however, Starwood hotels (Dolphin is a Sheraton, Swan is a Westin).

just curious. Do they offer their WDW buses for free transportation to/from parks?

At our house we call them the SWALPHIN , they have sleep number beds : )

There is a great back story on how they came to be .

It might be cheaper just to rent for the days that you are traveling to & from the airport. They have National/Alamo at the Swan or dolphin. We have done that before.

that thought did come to mind but i didnt know if you could rent at the airport and return at the hotel.

you get most the perks of being a resort guest, like free parking and EMH nights. And the use of disney transportation, the busses stop at all the resorts along cresent lake. You're smack dab between two parks, no need to drive for those, and you'll be dropped off at the gates to magic kingdom using the bus... No need to drive there. It might save you time to drive to DAK, but it's really not worth it for one park.

If you rent a car, keep in mind that you have to pay for parking at the Swan & Dolphin.

A piece of Swan/Dolphin trivia. The Swan was supposed to be the Dolphin and the Dolphin was supposed to be the Swan. The statues got placed on the wrong buildings. If you look at the paint on the buildings the one with the Swan statues has waves on it like the sea.The one with the Dolphin statue has grass like a marsh. Think somebody losttheir job over this. We were told this story on our specialty cruise during the Epcot fireworks.

Actually, that's another Disney Legend like "the turrets can be removed from the Castle in case of a hurricane". After reading "Disney War", the history of the Swan/Dolphin fascinated me and I found the architect's website. Very interesting read. The other legend is that they were designed so that the Monorail could be extended to run through them - also not true.

Not sure the bit about the statues isn't true - in size, they are also out of proportion to the buildings they are on.

Magical Express free airport transportation service runs only to resorts that are owned and operated by Disney. The Swan and Dolphin, while they're on WDW property, are owned and operated by Starwood Resorts.

still amazed at the cost for a room at this resort....or any for that matter....that they would charge you for parking

Why? Every higher end hotel I've ever stayed at charges for parking. It's a Sheraton resort - I'm guessing all or most of them charge for parking. Hotels in cities charge around $30 a night.

At one point, there was a transcript of a very good interview with the architect, Michael Graves, on the website for an architectual journal. I remember that he was not happy that the thing he was most well know for was his "mistake" in the switching of the statues. He insisted that the statues were placed correctly and intended to tie the two resorts together.
