$1000+ on my kids alone, although they're older, and therefore the gifts are more expensive (ipod touch, 2 cellphones, chi hair straightener, dsi...). It was so much cheaper when they were little! $150 on teacher/patrol/crossing guard/dance and voice teacher gifts, $100 on parents, $100 on IL's, and $20 on 2 nephews and 1 niece. Oh, and $300 on DH (he's getting much needed clothes, plus a GPS so I can have mine back!). I'm going to say $1750 total. Ugh.

I have no clue!! I know I went overboard, because I made a list of everything I have for my kids and my eyes just about dropped out of my head!!

Around $2000 for us - including 2 boys (13 and 10) and extended family. It is what we generally spend each year.

About $1000 total on 30 people. This includes $200 on a laptop for my mom (split that with my brother).

I spent a total of $284 plus tax! I'm feeling pretty good about it!

For our family of 3 kids the total is $328.
DS 8: pajamas, book set, Vikings hat and gloves, lego set, Air Hog heli, and snap circuits ($104)

DS 5: pajamas, shirt, Cars hat and gloves, Lego set, Air Hog heli, and a Nascar toy helmet ($84)

DS 2: pajamas, doll, doll clothes, Tinkerbell hat and gloves, book ($45)

Santa gets a little spendier as we are getting the Wii with Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros, and Toy Story Mania. And the boys are each getting a little toy combine and DD is getting another doll. Plus they each get a movie and a bunch of other stuff in their stockings like markers, Color wonder, candy, etc. So this gets to be about $550.

We have 3 nieces and 1 nephew to buy for: $90.00

When it's all done, it will be $1000.

$500 for 31 people. I made a lot of the stuff to give... now... if I had to put a price on the hours I put in to MAKE all of that stuff.... :rolleyes1

$1800 + extra money throughout the year

I put away $150 each month for Xmas. So, I spend that, plus a few misc. dollars from my general December budget, or the few things I pick up throughout the year, that are just bought from my regular budget for the month.

Typically, I charge ALL Xmas items, then pay the bill from my holiday spending account. SO, there are always a few items that I spend cash for, or a couple of items I buy ahead of time. For example, I bought ds a lacrosse set from the Target summer clearance...I think it was $7.

That budget includes my dh, my 3 kids, my db, ds and dbil, two of my husbands siblings (of 7), one niece on my dh's side, my 4 nephews, my parents, dh's mom and some friends. I also buy something small for my coworkers and employees (40 people)

Dh's family is so big, they don't generally exchange gifts. But 2 of his siblings are on a pretty limited budget, and are single, so I like to remember them. He has 19 nieces and nephews and 6 great nieces and nephews. I give to his one niece who has developmental delays. My parents pick up my kids from daycare and transport them around, so I tend to spend something on them, too.

I am hoping to find something nice I can use for my staff for next year (buying ahead). Not sure what, but I'll know it when I see it.

About $750.00 total (including tax, decorations, wrappings, cards, and all stocking stuffers). That total includes gifts for 17 people including DS & DH! :thumbsup2 It is still more than I/we planned to spend this year, and far less than we have ever spent (until this year DS generally got that much, give or take a little, spent on him alone). We really downsized a bunch this year!

I spent $1100, $360 each on both my dd's, $150 on dh, a few hundred on the rest of the family (7 adults, 2 nieces, dd's teacher). Now if I add in the $2400 I am spending on our Disney trip that is a surprise gift to the dd's it goes way up!

About $1000....was hoping to keep it around $750 but then bought DH a budget buster PS3 because that is the only thing he has asked for the last few Christmas's.

DS3- $300
DH- $400 (PS3 + accessories)
Mom- $75
Dad- $50
Brother- $65
DN12- $55
DN9- $15 (but we took her to WDW with us two weeks ago, so it was understood she would just get somethign small for Chrismas
Dog- $10
Cats- $30

I feel like a cheap skate compared to everyone else. I spent about 300.00 total on everyone.

id hate to add up everything! most likely $2700. we started in sept though so didnt really feel the strain.

My budget for Christmas was $1,200 and I stayed within it: $300 for each of the 3 kids, $125 for the family exchange and $80 for dh. He spent (or rather dd25 spent for him) the around $75 on me.

Well, it's also not how much you spend.....it's how much can you AFFORD to spend????

Dh is 51, I'm 47. We both work full time, and have kids who are teens (2) plus 1 preteen (age 12).

I spent around 2 K. In terms of percentages, that $2000 is less than 1% of our income.

Go back a few years, say 10 years, to 1999. That 2K would have been outrageous for me to spend!! My kids were ages 2-7. I worked part time, and dh was a programmer, not a manager. I got alot from Goodwill and Target 75% off sales. Two year olds don't know what they want! Even 7 year olds may have requests, but are often happy with whatever. I probably spent $300 or $400 that year.

Or take 2002 (I think, maybe 2003) I had gotten a few things, and then dh came home in early November, with no warning, having been laid off. Suddenly our Xmas was basically what I had gotten already, with a few small extras.

SO, while it's interesting to read, you have no idea what the numbers really mean. One person may have income double or triple what you have. Someone else may be charging with no idea how to pay it off, or plan to pay over many months. Others only spend the cash on hand. Unless you know the details, it's hard to compare just dollars to dollars.

Thats about where I am and includes toy donations, giving tree, and family.

I was pretty pleased - in years past I have gone past $5000 which is a little nuts - but I love giving.

So spending half that amount feels great!
