I have a friend in Texas who works for the post office (not delivering mail) and in the letter I received from her yesterday afternoon, she said that in January her department was going to be changing to a "5 day work week"..

Does that mean that the P.O. has definitely decided to go with the 5-day delivery system they were kicking around?

I will ask her about it when I answer her letter, but I thought there might be some postal workers here that have the "heads up" about it..

I thought that they were only going to be doing this in rural areas. Maybe, I'm wrong.

My dad works for the post office. He hasn't mentioned about anything changing but I could give him a call tomorrow (it's a little late to do it tonight). I'm sure he'd be able to answer your question.

That's a very generous offer.. If it's not long distance - and you have time (don't cut into your day to do it) - that would be great! :santa:

Oh, I don't mind doing it at all especially if I can help out a fellow diser. :goodvibes

DH and I were just talking about this yesterday. We didn't receive any mail, and thought maybe they had already went to 5 day delivery. I seriously cannot remember the last time we got no mail:confused3

Saturday is when they deliver all the really NOT important mail. It must be the same way at the lake. No? Not even junk mail, but like just a sale flyer for AutoCaps part store type stuff.

I thought that's why it was decided that it would be perfectly ok to not deliver mail on Saturday.

We have NEVER received first class mail or even magazines on Saturdays. Most time, no mail at all.

Surely, you can give up receiving the auto parts sale flyer at the lake. :goodvibes

My neighbor is a postmaster. Many carriers work 6 day weeks including OT, the OT is being eliminated to cut costs. At this point, you will still receive mail delivery 6 days, but will have a different carrier 1 day a week.

Our office is actually hiring people to cover the 6th day.

I'm a rural sub and the answer to 5 day delivery is No for now. Any change in our service would take an act of Congress and that is not happening right now. The Post Master General would very much like to end Saturday delivery but when that happens it will be huge news and be all over the networks. You will know well in advance :)

The only thing that would boher me about 5-day delivery is disrupting our Netflix deliveries. If we didn't have Netflix I wouldn't mind at all, but we're addicted to our DVDs!

I wouldn't mind it at all- it would give me one less day of junk mail delivery- anything else can wait a day to get here.

Eh, no big deal really. I think the majority of the mail that arrives on Saturday tends to be junk anyway.
Now Netflix, yeah that would stink but it's not like we live in the olden days where we relied on the mail for correspondence.
I think electronic delivery of things such as bills, letters and such have pretty much taken over anyway.

Really, what's the big deal about dropping a day of mail delivery? What do you get on that day that couldn't come a day or two later?

I can't imagine actually getting upset about something as unimportant as mail delivery...

Same. What's the big deal?

We get "real" mail here on Saturdays, not just junk mail. Actually quite a bit, since I order through the internet on Wednesday, Thursday, with an specific delivery date of Saturday. Weekly school updates come on Saturday and so do Sunday's paper ads. My children still write letters via the mail to friends that are out of state, send them pics etc, that they want them to have actual copies of also. Would I die without Saturday delivery, no? Do I enjoy getting mail all 6 days, definetely?
