My husband works for a tv station here in Utah, and he was on the scene for the entire story. It was a terrible tragedy. But what makes it even worse is that it didn't need to happen. 5 years ago, something similar happened at the same spot in the cave (although it was resolved happily then). At that point, officials wanted to close the cave, but a local spelunking group opposed the idea, and they won. After that, it was supposed to be kept closed with a lock and key. It was never very successful, though.
The decision was made yesterday, not to get him out of the cave. They are going to seal it up and make it a memorial.
It's such a terrible tragedy!
