We've been planning this WDW family vacation since TWO Christmases ago and I've been telling all travelers to make sure their paperwork was in order. So, last night my daughter informs me that her driver's license does not have her married name on it and naturally I bought the plane tickets with her 'new' name on them. We leave in 4 days. Is this going to be a major problem at security? Does anyone else have doofus travel companions who did this, and what was the out come. Help!

ps. She's the one in the pic without the hat.

Can she get to the DMV to get her license changed to her "new" name? It might not be a problem if her "new" name is rather "new" (not a year or so "new" and she just never got around to it). Perhaps a copy of the marriage license would be helpful.

I don't know anyone who has done this, but I really feel for your family. Secruity can be very tight and I wouldn't want to take a chance.

Bring a copy of her marriage license, as well as something else with her married name on it, and she'll be fine.

They will let her through if she brings her marriage license and add'l ID, but don't expect it to be quick. The odds are high that she will be subjected to add'l security scrutiny.

Oh, and BTW; the doofus I knew who did it was me, on my honeymoon, going abroad, yet. However, the doofus who caused the problem was DH; he just *assumed* that I was changing my name, and didn't bother to ask me before he bought the tickets.

LOL i can identify:D my dd, also 23, informed me a few days before our dec trip she could not find her birth certificate(of course i had asked her way before the trip and she said she knew where it was:rolleyes: ) she had to jump through hoops:Pinkbounc but she was able to get one in time....and then they never even asked to see it at the airport:rolleyes: since we were entering the US from Canada we had been told she would not be allowed to board the plane without it. i don't think you'll have a problem, but i would take the marriage certificate along just in case. have a great trip:D

Give the church a call and request a signed copy of the information contained in the church's marriage register. I do realize I'm making an assumption here -- that a church was involved. I'm forever signing these documents for various legal necessities such as pension applications and, sadly, divorces.
This is one of the things I tend to work through with couples getting married in our church -- names, names, names. Some grooms make the assumption of automatic name-changes, completely forgetting that brides will not have passports in the married name. I've watched some grooms get completely surprised by the bride at the wedding when she tells him she's not taking his name. That's for the Debate Board, however.
In the province of Ontario the whole name-change law is a peculiar animal. One may legally change their name for free upon marriage, but that name change is not automatic -- the legal name change needs to be filed with the province. However, instead of filing the legal name change one may also "assume" the name change upon marriage and live under that name without any necessarily binding legal status, yet also without any legal repercussions. Peculiar.
I just tell the bride to sign their maiden name on the marriage documents and use the Record of Marriage to change credit cards, health insurance, passports, driver's licences, etc., etc.

I think I would avoid the potential for disaster and take a trip to the Registry.::MinnieMo

Thanks for all the helpful advice. My SIL called Delta who said it shouldn't present a problem and noted it in their system. Darling daughter will go to the DMV and at least get a paper stating that she started the name change process and we will bring the marriage license. I'm thinking of dragging the Priest along with us. OK, time to start having fun!
