SO have you you walked a mile in my shoes? I think people who have not should count their blessings and not provoke people who are different. Then again, there is Karma and you might just find yourself in my shoes soon enough. I always find it interesting how that tends to happen.

Um, yeah. I'm sure Karma is going to bite us all in the *** for disagreeing and provoking you on a WDW message board....:lmao::lmao:

H1N1 is going around my kids school. My dd caught the flu, we did not have her tested for H1N1. My ds has asthma and I was very concerned about him catching it. I discussed what to do with his doc and he told me that if he shows ANY symptoms to bring him in for an Rx for Tamiflu. There really wasn't much I could do, the virus was in my house. I did use alot of Lysol ;)
Anyway dd is better, finally back to school this week and no signs for ds. OP in the case of the swine flu I think you would do what you would do when taking precautions for any other flu.

Seriously?? You can't find this information but here you are posting on the DIS so apparently you have access the the entire internet.

Tell you what, I'll call action news and ask them to do a special report adressed to Mrs. LuvOrlando, because if no one speaks to her directly she won't know what to do.

My daughter's asthmatic. We have 3 confirmed cases of H1N1 in Junior High students here. I called the doctors office - take normal precautions; come in at the first sign of symptoms and make sure to come in in August for the flu vaccine. Took three minutes for me to do that.

I'm considered high risk and I talked to my endocrinologist about H1N1. He is not concerned about it at all. He said to take normal precautions that everyone should take. If I feel ill, go to my PCP or urgent care clinic. I don't need to have any sort of anti-virals around or anything like that.

I think the best thing you can probably do right now is follow the normal stuff for the flu and don't sweat it. If you're worried, you're going to pass that worry on to your kids. They don't need to be stressed about this.

Its good that your Dr told you about the Tami-Flu... mine have been utterly silent.

Have you asked about it? I specifically had to address the issue with my doctor. They're not just going to come out and say, hey, here's what's going on with the flu, this is what to do. They simply don't have time to do that, even for high risk patients. If you're high risk, you have to do the leg work yourself and ask the questions, don't wait for them to come to you.

My kids know nothing about this at all. That's why I posted here, to keep my loved ones out of the loop. The kids know they should wash their hands and avoid sick people, just like any other time. Worry never solves anything but vigilance does... I'm more angry than worried.

They may not know anything about it, but they pick up on mom being stressed. Kids are intuitive. If you're stressed about it, they're going to know something's up, they may not know what, but the impact is that they're going to be stressed.

So your well thought out advice is to pack ourselves into our house and not go anywhere. As helpful as I am sure you are trying to be, it's not.

Obviously there is stuff out there about this Flu, I do read and I am informed. But it is vague and directed at everyone. My whole point is that HIGH RISK GROUPS are not being addressed so I'm not surprised people who do not fall into this category couldn't care less.

You would use the same precautions you would during regular flu season.

"High Risk" generally means, elderly, very young, pregnant women, auto immune compromised individuals such as HIV patients.

The media has been very effective covering information IMHO.

If you continue to be so concerned call your pediatrician.

the last newsletter from the town where I work stated (about) 37 cases confirmed. that was maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago. but that may have been total cases and not current. all were or are recovering normally at home. I do not know if any were in the risk categories.

stay clean and whatever esle you can do... eat icecream maybe? hehehehehe

I did when my kids had their flare ups in May, but everything fell of deaf ears. My Pediatrician did get chewed out by DS's Pulmonary Dr for not following up the 2nd week of May so maybe he'll listen more this time around. If not I may need to find someone else for the kids primary care... That really is a good point, glad you made me think of it. I will get in to see them soon in case they have updated their protocols recently but I'm not expecting too much. Around here people tend to try and close the barn doors AFTER the horse is already out of the stable.

You're welcome. I really would find someone else for their primary care, someone who will listen to you about your concerns. I've gone through quite a few docs because of that. I also know about closing the barn doors after the horse left the stable... it's happened to me a lot. Good luck! I hope you find answers and that your kids stay safe and healthy.

Naaah, my kids are easy breezy. I'm not overly stressed anyway. Ticked yep, a bit and the lack of new info, but not overwhelmed or anything.... maybe I just write more intensely than I feel. :confused3 I haven't even had an opportunity to talk much about this with my DH. He is a bit concerned because a 2nd co-worker has her pre-schooler in the hospital due to Pneumonia and a 3rd in his building has a young boy who was also diagnosed/confirmed this week with H1N1 so it just seems to be getting closer & closer to us. DH was in meetings all day yesterday and most of this AM so he didn't hear any of this (who was out of work and why) & share with me until this afternoon. All I know is I hope we can get the vaccine before it makes its way into my home

The earliest the vaccine would be out is the fall. You have some wait time.

I gave you several links with the information you seem to need. Have you looked at them to see if that is what you need? if not, I can try to do some more sleuthing for you.

Asthmatics, who seem to be harder hit than other groups, are not mentioned specifically.... and there are millions and millions of sufferers.
Then, apparently, asthmatics as a group are not considered to be at any higher risk than the general population.

But Eeyore's Butterfly is right. It's not up to the media or the CDC to come knocking on doors with personalized information.

Actually, one of the first links on the search page in Eeyore Butterfly's post number 14 DOES address asthma http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/guidance/ppsv_h1n1.htm

Look at the table - it advises asthmatics 19 to 64 to get vaccinated with a specific pneumocal vaccine; nothing about children.

This http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/702292 page does include children with asthma in the higher-risk group, but advises taking the same precautions one would for any other version of the flu.

And this http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/702292 site suggests anyone in any high-risk group should seek medical treatment immediately if the exhibit flu-like symptoms.

The only prevention would be, as suggested above, to lock oneself in one's home.

Information exists; it may not be the information one seeks because that specific information doesn't exist due to a lack of need (i.e. treatment advice is the same for ALL high-risk people, not just asthmatics or just pregnant women or just...

All I did was Google h1n1, asthma.
