Go to the cdc site and type in SARS. They have all kinds of info there..

Sorry to hear your kids are still having such bad health issues..:(

Hi there C. Ann, I hope you are having fun at the lake:goodvibes

My kids are fine right now, thanks for asking. I am posting this because I have lingering questions about what exactly happened regarding my DS.

I did check the CDC website but the info I found is vague at best. I don't see details about reported infections given anywhere, and that is what I want to see. I am not the best on-line researcher so I am assuming it's just my poor skills that are getting in the way of my fact finding.

Hmm.. Maybe you could google your state health department and see if there's anything listed there? Some states are very open with their info - others not so much.. You could also try your county health department.. If all else fails, maybe you could actually call the state or county health department.. The most they can do is tell you that they don't have that info - right? :goodvibes

Glad to hear your kids are doing well now.. It's been a rough stretch - huh? :goodvibes

Hi. I've taken care of patients with serious respiratory illness that were tested for possible SARS. Not one of them has ended up actually having it. It is something that hospitals watch out for.

I was curious so I looked at the CDC site. They say:

Currently, there is no known SARS transmission anywhere in the world. The most recent human cases of SARS-CoV infection were reported in China in April 2004 in an outbreak resulting from laboratory-acquired infections (see Laboratory Biosafety for more details). CDC and its partners, including the World Health Organization, continue to monitor the SARS situation globally. Any new updates on disease transmission and SARS preparedness activities will be posted at this site

So one of two things: 1) there was a miscommunication and this woman did not actually test positive for SARS (maybe she tested positive for something that sounds similar called ARDS or acute respiratory distress syndrome?) or 2) there is some kind of massive coverup going on (seems unlikely to me :) )

No, because the information quoted by the PP indicates "infection/s", not fatalities. Simply being actually diagnosed with SARS would be reportable/reported.

Reading that post (# 8) yet again, themarquis's explanation seems more likely than SARS.

ARDS sounds similar to that, and despite the involved family being regular day to day blue collar people, they've likely heard of SARS in/on the regular local news in the past few years; vs. never having heard of ARDS. Plus, while none of us are medical personnel, the symptoms described in the original post seem to mesh pretty well with the full name of ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome)

I'm thinking it's ARDS too. The whole time I've read through this thread, I thought, there's another serious respiratory issue that sounds a lot like SARS but I just couldn't think of it. Thank you katieelder!!:goodvibes

OP, do you think the family could have misunderstood?

I agree with all that you wrote. That is the first thing that popped into my head. Most people have never heard of ARDS but people die of it all of the time.
