22 Sept 2012. First Sailing Out Of Galveston, TX

Hi all....
We are HUGE Disney fans, and have been to Disney World 10X, but this is our first cruise ever. We live in East Texas, so we decided we had to go when Disney announced they would be sailing out of Galveston. We are so excited!

Sarah, I can not get it to let me PM you, but can you add us to the role call?
Room 6620 Carrie, Hayley 13, and Austin 17
Room 6622 Carol and Marilyn

I added us to the FE group list. I would love any tips that anyone has for first time cruisers. I really want to make this magical for my kids!

We would love to be added to the roll call and FE list.

:welcome: Carrie and family. I am so excited :mickeyjum you could join us! I see you successfully added your names to the FE list, that's so much fun. You might also want to consider the Secret Mickey gift exchange, at least for the kids.

:welcome: Felecia and family. So happy :donald: to have you join us. I see you are already on the FE list. You might also want to sign up for the Secret Mickey.

SECRET MICKEY

If you are interested in the Secret Mickey gift exchange please send me a PM with the cabin #, names of those participating, ages of kids and some info on each person such as favorite character, color, interest etc...

We will close this activity on August 30th. Names will be assigned no later than Sept. 1 in order to give the Secret Mickeys time to shop or make their gifts. Secret Mickey is similar to a Secret Santa.

Gifts should be in the range of $20 - $25 values. It can be one item of that value or several smaller items adding up to the value. Some Secret Mickeys like bringing several small items to give out throughout the cruise. The choice is yours.

Any questions on the Secret Mickey please let me know.

Is anyone celebrating something special onboard?party::bday::dance3: I would love to see a list of every ones celebrations. Sarah, maybe you could add a column on your roll call for celebrations. You never know what surprises might come along :cool1:

That will be fun for her. Mine is on the 5th so I am celebrating a couple weeks late.... they didn't have a cruise early enough!

Great idea! I will do that tonight.

DOOR DECORATIONS

We have several new cruisers so I wanted to mention the door decorations. It is fun to decorate your cabin doors. You can use magnets to decorate with. Disney does not allow tape or glue on your door. Some people glue magnets to the back of their decorations others print on magnetic paper and cut out theirs. Some people have a theme and others just have a mix of things. Have fun with it and I can't wait to see all the decorated doors!

Where do you find the information regarding what special events are on what nights? Also, I am wondering if there is a way to see which lives shows are happening during our cruise. Do we have to wait until we are on the ship to find out?

What about pirate night? Anyone have suggestions on things to bring for it?

Lastly, our teenagers allowed to wear jeans and nice shirts to the dinners? (Excluding formal and semi-formal night of course). My son just does not own much in the way of slacks.

Someone posted earlier this schedule of events.

formal night is 23rd
pirate night is 25th
semi formal night is 27th

The Pirate Party is a blast. It's so much fun to dress up for. Even the adults dress... yep, me too! You can buy or make pirate costumes. I have seen some great ones that where home made. Everyone wears them to dinner that night and the servers even join in on it. The party is on deck 9 after late dinner. They have a huge buffet... like you could eat again! :confused3 but I manage to hit the desert table :cool1:

It is suggested not to wear jeans to dinner but lots and lots of people do. Disney doesn't say anything about it. I would let my son wear them if I were you. I have even seen some guys were them on formal nights. I just think formal nights are more fun if everyone dresses up.

You can call Disney and ask about the shows and events. They will give you the heads up on it. Guess I should do that and post the results. They can even tell you what movies will be showing.

If you have not cruised on Disney before then you don't want to miss out on any of the shows. They are fantastic!

Wow! Sometimes I feel so out of touch being up here in Alaska because by the time I'm checking the posts for the night it's 11:00pm or later on the east coast!

Pirate night is a must see! It's a blast and as TXMermaid said, even the cast members get into it!

As far as dress goes, it is not suggested, but it's not a problem. I don't think he'd have a problem wearing them. To make our packing load lighter, I have my husband wear his slacks two nights instead of just once, as long as they're clean of course.

I am working on updating the roll call list, so hopefully I won't leave anyone out. I am also deleting the FE column, and I'm adding a celebrations column. If you have any celebrations to celebrate please let me know!

I'm watching Undercover Boss about Norwegian Cruise and it's making me want to cruise!!! About 71 days unril we set sail! I really appreciate all the hard work that the cast members put into making our cruises memorable!

Welcome cruisers who recently joined us! I am so glad that more people are joining the cruise.

I really hope disney will do something special for our cruise. If i recall correctly, they gave lithographs for the first mexico cruise; however, we were not given anything special on the first west coast repo (LA to Vancouver).

I was on the first sailing out of Vancouver and we received a litho from Don "Ducky" Williams who was also on board. My table was right next to his and I asked if he would be on the first Galveston sailing and he said no .

I'm excited to see more people joining our group! :wave2:

Sarah, my daughter Savannah is turning 10 on the 24th. She has no clue she will celebrate her double digits birthday on the Magic.

I got my adult fish extender gifts today. Wonder how many people we'll end up with? Now to come up with something for the kiddos.

BTW, Jill, would it be possible to add the FE list link to your signature line? It would just so handy there, KWIM? ;)

So for those of you arriving the night before, what hotel are you staying in? I have tried and tried and tried to get ressies at Harbor House, but no such luck. It is totally booked up.
