She has received 216 cards (they are still arriving) and several packages. Cards from all over the world including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan and the UK. Just about every state in the US has been represented, too. She wants me to get her a scrapbook so that she can put the cards in there and look at them whenever she wants, right now they are taped to the walls of the room.
She is the new celebrity at the nursing home. She loves the cards and the photos of her "adopted great granchildren" and the drawings that children have sent her. She proudly explains that to the staff, too. "Oh," she says, "that was drawn for me by one of my many adopted great grandchildren." Then she just grins. "Oh yes," she says, "I have a friend in Japan (or the UK or Canada or Australia), isn't that the loveliest card?"
She now has the plush animals that she received displayed on an oak bookshelf next to her bed. She's hiding the cashew nuts, though because they tend to disappear if she doesn't
I cannot thank you enough, my friends. You have given her 3 weeks of pure joy and something to look forward to everyday. She never dreamed she would ever get this much mail and she loves each and everything she has received. She is feeling very blessed these days and so am I.
I will try everyday to pay these kindnesses "forward". I don't think I will ever find the right words to tell you how grateful I am for your thoughtful generosity because I don't think there are any words that would be adequate. You have touched our hearts.
Okay, I'm all puddled up now. {{{HUGS}}}
