21 month old climbing out of crib

I believe what my parents did was tie a sheet over the top of the crib when my sister started doing that. They were concerned about her falling out once she'd reached the top.

But that was in the unenlightened 60's.


It worked, though!

My parents pined the feet of my pajama's together to keep me from climbing out of my crib, but I was under a year old-walked early. They said I would hook my foot on the railing of the crib and just slide off on the other side .

When we moved DS17 out of his crib we bought him a double bed. He fell out of bed once and figured out how to stay in bed after that. We gated his door for a while and he figured out that he had to stay in his room. He never really got into our bed unless he had a bad dream. DD14 on the other had crawled in every night. She would wake us up and ask if it was ok, finally we just told her to stop waking us up and crawl up into bed from the bottom so we didn't wake up. This was after we decided to close our door one night to see if she would stay out and found her sleeping in the hallway in the morning.

DD could swing her leg over and hop out at 15 months, so I got her a low to the ground toddler bed soon after.

Mine were both in a toddler bed by 18 months.

Buy the kid a regular bed and put the crib away. It's dangerous to climb out.

That's what we did - toddler bed.

The official rule in our family is once they can climb out of the crib, it's time to move to the toddler bed. My son went into his around 18 months.

The crib tent that is sold at Burlington Baby Depot and Babies R Us is the best. It is worth every penny...it is very secure and safe.

My friend's 21 month old keeps climbing out of his crib and running around after she tucks him in. My kids didn't do that -- what do others do when kids get to this point?

Well, once they figure out how to get out of bed, I just made sure they could get out safely, put baby gates over the door, and childproofed their whole room. My oldest started getting out at 15 months. I didn't want to "reward" him for this behavior by running upstairs every time he did this so I just allowed him to get up. He had to stay in his room whether he was in bed or out of bed. I did put a twin size bed in there with the crib and sometimes he would crawl up in there. But many times we found him on the floor in front of the door, curled up wiht his blankie and a couple toys. We'd scoop him up and deposit him back in the crib.

this actually worked in our favor. DS could get himself up in the morning and find toys to play keep himself occupied for a few minutes.

duct tape has many uses....

The Mythbusters recently did an episode where they lifted a car with duct tape. Seems like it could hold a 21 month old.

Tell people the kid is in early astronaut training.

Wow, 21 months, seems like heaven to me DS was out and about around 9 months if I remember correctly. At a year old, I came into the kitchen to find him sleeping on the kitchen floor, fridge wide open, with yogurt and cookies and juice all over my floor And baby sound asleep and obviously satisfied

Not a week later I found him sleeping in the window sill with about a dozen pacifiers in his lap (he had been hoarding them for weeks I guess because as far as I know, he only had a few but I did keep losing them) This was his favorite place to hang out during the day watching the birds outside but...

Yep, took the crib down and brought him into my room so I could get some sleep. I was a single Mom so no problem there but he was seven before I got him back out. Don't even ask about DD
