The cat I was thinking of that's banned in a few states (or at least when the show was made) is the Savannah cat, which is similar in appearance to the Ocicat. Animal Planet had a segment on the savannah, and they appeared to be good pets. I think they're related to the Ocicat. Very pretty!

Wonder why? :scared:

I dated a guy whose roommate had one, and he was cute and a lot of fun (well, would have been if my allergies hadn't made me miserable). He was definitely a handful though- got into everything, knocked over houseplants, etc. In a house full of twenty-somethings with weird schedules, he didn't get enough attention and training. The commitment is definitely more like that of having a dog than a low-maintenance cat. Just make sure that you're ready for that.

I had an Ocicat for almost 17 years. She was born January 1991, we got her from the breeder in October 1991 and she died (stomach cancer) this past September. She was only "pet quality", not "show quality" because the spots on one side ran together to form stripes.

For most of her life she was the junior cat in a two-cat household (Pixel was Siamese). After Pixel died she was our only cat; we did not want to get another for a while, which was a good decision, as when we moved to Orlando we were able to get an apartment that would allow only one pet.

She was mostly Judy's cat, not mine. For several months after Judy died in November 2004 I thought I would lose Sheeba also, but she ended up the last few years accepting me. Shortly after mving to my house I did get another cat, so she had a couple of years as being Senior Cat.

But she was always very sweet, and her fur was much softer than for most cats.

When I lived at home, my mom had one...He was a HANDFUL, especially as a kitten. He was VERY strong, and could jump from floor to top of refrig with no effort. He got into everything.

On the other hand, he was also VERY smart. He loved to fetch, and was just like a dog in many aspects. He lived without issue with the 2 other cats we had, both were MUCH older than him.

He died a few years ago, I think he was about 15.

Can I just say HOORAY! You will really be a HERO for some very lucky cat(s) :thumbsup2

yes, a hero. and if you find one you want ,get it that day...i went back the next day to adopt a beautiful cat that apperared to be a himalayan mix(she was the same color as my exotic shorthair that died)and she had been put to sleep because she was sneezing!she seemed fine the day before and the workers said she was in no danger of being put to sleep when i asked,as i really just went to look but definitly would have got her then had they said yes her time is up.(.i knew someone might have adopted her before i made up my mind, but i had no idea she would be euthanized!)Apparently some shelters have 1 person who is in charge of such sad descisions, and the workers didn't realize she was coming to work that week! long story short, the lady i spoke w/felt sorry for me, and she found out i had experience w/purebreds and she told me that someone dumped a sick Persian that just had kittens and due to her contagius infection they were going to put her down ,but this worker took her home. The worker gave me the cat(she had just been spayed, shots, and medicated) for free ,except she asked if i could give her 12 for the rabies shot.I got a Persian cat that is probably show quality(of course i have no papaers, but i know the original owner probably paid mega dough for her w/papers).her little nose is so smooshed that i have actuaaly had 2 repair men say"WHAT is THAT? when they came!:goodvibes she sits on her haunches like a begging dog, sometimes even when no one is in the room!she is a nasty cat(runny persian eyes), but she is a joy! also i got my purebred Boston Terrier at a shelter...check petfinder.com:flower3:
