2022 Med cruisers-how optimistic are you feeling?

If you're turned away at the port, local laws might require you to quarantine instead of sightseeing.

good point.
afaik Spain & Italy require to quarantine for 7 days if positive.. we'd still do it.. No way we fly to Europe only to quarantine and fly back right after.
but yeah.. I'm hoping these restrictions are lifted next summer otherwise it's going to be a pain the neck.

Our third try to go on the Greek cruise. Last time I spoke to DCL, for what it is worth, the cast member told me it is their hope to return to European cruises next summer. Right now I have not purchased airfare or reserved a hotel. Sort of shy after the last two cancellations. Plus- fly to Italy and test to get on ship? What if you come back positive? No cruise and you quarantine in Italy. Back from cruise and you test positive? Once again, quarantine for 10 days before you can fly home. Those are all big risks both time and money wise. Not to mention the disappointment of not actually going on this cruise or not being able to fly home when you actually have to return home for almost 3 weeks (8 day cruise plus 10 days of quarantine). Waiting to make a decision on this. I have resigned myself to the fact I may have to delay another year and do something stateside one more year. It is annoying, but it is what it is. Making the decision by PIF. If all that testing isn't resolved or DCL doesn't announce some plan around it, we wait.

We are on one of the northern Europe sailings and will probably cancel. UK has a test on day 2 once you enter so that is two tests before you are even on the ship. I considered moving to the Med but Italy requires you to do cruise line only excursions which isn't of interest to us.

Of course, so much can change but we are ready to move on to other plans.

I'm expecting a lot of people to cancel on the sailings departing from Dover for this reason. It does not affect me, as there is a common travel agreement between Ireland and The UK and I don't have to do the test on day 2.

Also for my particular cruise, Norwegian Fjords from Dover, there may be a possibility that Norway may not allow port excursions or they may only allow DCL port excursions. So again, once the PIF date gets closer and the official requirements are released, I'm expecting lots of cancellations.

I'm thinking that summer 2022 in Europe may be very similar to summer 2021 in USA, with very low capacity on the cruises and big restrictions for port excursions.
