2020 Condo Association Meeting Video

Wow - thanks - but what a bunch of fluff.

As a new DVC member, is this all there is? When do they have a REAL meeting with REAL concerns and REAL questions?

For instance, during the budget presentation (what little there was), the biggest bump to dues was due to enhanced housekeeping and transportation (due to social distancing). 1) Since DVC room cleaning is already limited, are we paying for enhanced cleaning to the CASH rooms? 2) Transportation. Why exactly am I paying for transportation (as part of my dues)? Since my contract (as many now have pointed out) only guarantees me a room at some time during the year and does not even guarantee the presence or entrance to a park, why am I paying for transportation to and from said parks?? And furthermore, if dues ARE the primary funder of that transportation, why am I not at least guaranteed priority use of it?

We pay for the cleaning of all rooms owned by DVC resorts. Unless rooms have not yet been declared, like RIV, it includes all DVC rooms. If those rooms are booked for cash, then that is part of that fee that goes back to the membership and is considered when budget is set.

You pay for transportation as it is part of being an onsite guest. All onsite guests are given free transport. The costs are paid by both cash guesrs and DVC points guests and split based on that so we would not be entitled to any level of priority.

Here is the thing. As owners, we gave the right to make decisions for the management company and the board of directors.and have very little say in much of that. The only thing the budget has to do is match real expenses and if you want to see the books, I believe yoy can make an appoint to see some of them.

Our dues pay for the running of the resort and whatever other types of expenses for being an onsite guest. So, being able to use the transportation is something we have to pay for Via dues.

We'll leave the cleaning issue aside for the moment, but I think you've completely missed my point on transportation. My contract(s) only entitle me to a room at some point during a given year, period. As many have pointed out, I am NOT entitled to park access or entrance. In fact, as I heard numerous members say, they booked a trip, stayed at their resort, but didn't go to the parks. YET THEY STILL PAID FOR TRANSPORTATION, via their dues. I should never pay for something I cannot - or do not - use.

Transportation really should have always been a "bolt-on" cost for resort visitors - DVC or not. If you use it, you pay for it, period.

And the reason Disney doesn't have to consider making it a bolt-on cost is likely because DVC provides a base level of GUARANTEED funding for it, year after year. If DVC didn't provide base funding for transportation, it would be bolt-on pretty quick. I'd say that entitles me to priority access.

Finally, why would I have to "make an appointment" to see the books? Why doesn't DVC publish a detailed yearly budget for member viewing?

Grear question regarding books. No idea why. Just reporting what I have read.

In terms of what you are buying, yes, you are buying access to the room, but when you bought, you also agreed to cover the share of expenses such as transportation as long as it is there.

It is like the change in towels. It used to be that DVC only got new ones on trash and towel and full cleaning days. If you wanted more, you had to pay. Now, you don’t. Why? Rumor has it that housekeeping was finding so many pool towels in the rooms that in the end, they decided to simply make it part of the dues and now people can request in between the days.

Apparently Disney decided years ago to build transportation costs into park ticket prices, parking prices and resort room prices. For Disney, transportation costs are part of the costs of operating the parks, parking lots and resorts. DVC MFs pay the costs to operate the DVC resorts. That’s one of the reasons that MFs for DVC are so much higher than MFs for other timeshares - we pay for a lot more than maintaining the buildings and grounds.
