2018 DVC Budgets are Released

I’m wondering this too... especially because I live in California and don’t fully understand how this works. For me, once I’ve bought property, the assessed value doesn’t change, it’s essentially locked in. My understanding is that’s not true for other states. So, I’m confused as to what’s being debated, the tax rate or the assessed value?
Not true for other states.... :(

@PaintsWithAllTheColors, California Prop 13 (c1978) is a marvelous thing, indeed! There are many who wish to overturn it or amend it. Keep an eye on the various measures going through voting cycles and let's keep this going (safe).

On the other hand ... having held real estate in California for decades ... Prop 13 is one of the few things "tying" me to California. If it were removed, I'd have one less reason to remain here and might be more open to the idea of relocation. Hmmm ... maybe.

I'm not thrilled with the SSR increase, but it includes damages for the hurricane, so next year the % increase should be lower.

I never even thought about how those tree houses could possibly make SSR a target with hurricane damage.

Trees and flooding--SSR has lots of trees that probably came down in the high winds and the river that flows next to them overflowed its banks, which could affect the stairwells and balconies.

Oregon has a similar law. We sold our building in California, 1031'd into a building in Oregon, pay about the same in property tax but have twice the rental income.

Right. I just completely forget about those tree houses, I suppose because I would never want to stay in one.
