2017 Military Discount Released

My apologies if this is a duplicate , I searched and couldn't find another post that informed the military members on this forum that the 2017 Salute to Armed Forces discount has been released. I called and booked for next October and had no issues with the cast member not knowing it has been released.

I was SO excited to see that! We're planning on going in Feb & Aug and really wanted 5-day instead of 4-day tickets (and wasn't looking forward to paying for an extra full day ticket for 3 people both times.) It was such a great surprise!

And with the addition of that 5-day hopper with WP&M, the free dining is now back in play unless they change what is required for free dining. If they keep it at a 2-day PH ticket, that ticket is LESS THAN the Salute ticket, so you can book a free dining package with the 2-day ticket and then upgrade the ticket to the 5-day PH/WP&M at the gate. The downside is, you won't be able to make FP+ for more than two days ahead of time.

You can't do it the other way around...upgrade the Salute to a longer ticket, but you can upgrade a cheaper ticket to the Salute. It didn't work this year, because the Salute tickets were cheaper than the 2-day PH. And all the tickets for 2017 are cheaper as well, except for that 5-day PH/WP&M ticket.

You still need to run the numbers, though. The room discount plus paying OOP MAY still be cheaper than paying full price for the room and getting free dining.

Awesome. I didn't read all the details and didn't know about the 5 day PH and also didn't know you could upgrade a 2 day PH to a Salute ticket (which is new because of longer ticket). Thanks for all the great information!

They may just not be loaded into the system yet. The announcement just came yesterday, so I doubt they are "sold out" of the promotion. However, if they are reaching a certain percentage (that only they know) of rooms already reserved by the general public, they may not participate in the military discount. While this promotion is not one used by Disney to fill rooms, but to honor and show appreciation to those who serve, they still need to have the available rooms to offer.

I say all that to suggest calling again in a few days and see if anything has changed.

My point exactly that there are only a certain number of rooms allocated to this promotion per resort I believe is a very very low number since certain resorts are not available. Not only that but if you read the wording this year it says discounts on certain Disney resorts on most nights which makes me think not all resorts are participating this year.

I agree with you. I called yesterday, within a half hour of the promotion being loaded into their systems and we wanted a Poly GV CL room. The only options available were Poly TPV, Poly LV CL and Poly TPV CL. Obviously, those are probably rooms that are a bit harder to sell. We ended up booking a LV CL room and we are happy with that. We are just grateful that they renewed this deal for another year.

YES you can!

Yes! You buy the tickets separately from either SOG or an ITT, and then book a room only reservation with the military discount (or room+dining, no discounts for dining).
