I THINK you can transfer, but it seems a little dicey...you need to pay a transfer fee (in addition to the deferral fee that was already paid), and don't you, like, sign up for the race you ACTUALLY want and then fill out a form or something - or you sign up for the link they send you but they only transfer you if the race you want is full?
That's what I'm hearing. I've also heard that you can do that without a deferral. Learn something new every day!
I got the 10K SOOOO EXCITED! First 10K in Disney World!
In for the 10K for both myself and my friend! Just in time too, apparently!
Yay! 10Kers unite!
In for the Half Marathon!! Super excited for my first one!!!.....Now for my random question: how likely would I be do y'all think to get a deferment for 2018 if I happen to get deployed between now and a couple months from now??
If you stay on top of it and find out when deferrals open, you'll have no trouble at all.
Thank you for your service, by the way.
^^ if they've used Belle for, like, every race weekend-related thing and she's NOT the theme, that's a mean trick!!
Yeah...I'm 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% positive it is Belle. I doubt they would trick us.
It'll be a while! Marathon weekend maybe?
Congrats to everyone who got in! I'm not signing up this time around, but I've got dreams of going for the Glass Slipper Challenge in 2018. Along with everyone else though probably, since it's an anniversary year for all the races.
I'm hoping I'll be in GSC 2018 as well! Keep the dream alive!
Can't believe I signed up for the GSC! I had planned on doing that in 2018 but once I found out late last night it was the Beauty and Beast theme, I thought I might do the 1/2 but then switched to the 10k after talking with my DSIL, but when I was registering and the GSC was still open, I thought to myself...Why not? This is crazy! So much training and planning to do for an unexpected trip! I'm so excited!!!
Woohoo!
Hi ladies! Thank so much for all of the helpful information. I was able to succesully register for my first Princess 10k. My best friend is unable to race, but wants to volunteer. Any helpful hints? Does she need to create a go active account or a different type of account? Thanks so much and can't wait to run with all of you princesses!
So happy to see all of my fellow 10K runners! Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one!
Aw yes! I did! The 10K!My friend didn't unfortunately, so I guess I'll be doing my first ever race solo! Hopefully he will still make the trip with me.
Yay! I have done all of my races solo. You'll have a blast!
My first Disney run is actually the Wine and Dine in November. I am so lucky to be running for a charity. Can you ladies give us first one runners some advice? Are there a lot of character opportunities and do you feel like you have the time to stop? And more importantly, wardrobe! Since it Florida and it is cooler in the early mornings, do you recommended tanks or long sleeves? I am so excited! Thanks in advance
I recommend both, and then play it by ear to see what you'll end up needing that morning. 2015 was FREEZING. Coincidentally, the theme was Frozen. lol So many ladies either froze in their planned outfits, or had to scramble to find something to cover themselves. The year before, it was really hot with nearly 100% humidity.
Congrats on the happy ending! We'll keep you company in the corrals. I'm sure many of us here will be in the same starting area so you won't be alone
You're never alone at a runDisney race!
I got in! Had to make a new account, but I'm in for the half! And now I'm terrified....
Don't be. You have more than enough time to train. We're all here to support you. You've got this!
In the way of character experiences, there are quite a few, and I rarely have stopped. I like to capture photos with landmarks rather than characters, making it a quicker pause. Regularly, there are others stopping for the same landmarks so you can do a camera trade (without a Disney photographer there), and there is plenty of space with no line to wait in. I also like doing "drive-by" selfies with characters in the background rather than waiting in lines that have been up to 20 minutes or more long for us middle of the pack runners.
If you're in a way-back corral and worried about pacing, be very aware of your stops. Being swept is no myth, and you want to make it through to see all the great characters and magic of MK and Epcot.
I hope this helps!
Totally agree with all of this. I usually just take selfies in front of things. In my first half, I planned to stop for a picture or two. I got in a line, then quickly got out. I was honestly so excited to run, I just want to keep going. In my second, I was injured so badly, I was afraid to stop for fear of getting swept. This year, I just did the 5K (and by "just" I mean rather than all three like I had done in the past). It's not timed, and I was going to be slow anyway, since I was walking like a little old lady by then. I decided I would stop if I wanted to. I stopped for vacation Genie, because...well you have to. I think I waited 10 or 15 minutes. If I did that during a half, I would have had a heart attack.
My sister and I are registered for the 5K. I am mildly afraid of not being able to keep up because I am terribly out of shape, but surely if little kids can run it I can too? lol I am looking forward to it though. I've never ran a proper 5K before.
Don't be afraid at all! You have plenty of time to prepare. I'm not going to tell you it's "only" 3 miles, but you're not going from zero to 26.2 in a matter of months. You can do this.
This year was my first 5k at princess. Its so incredibly crowded with walkers, running for long is a challenge. I do run/walk intervals and we ended up ignoring our timer and instead would run when we saw an opening to get around walkers and then walk when we were stuck behind people for a bit. My mom's doing the November 5k and isn't allowed to run because of a knee replacement. So she's working on her walking pace but even if you don't run a single step you'll be fine at the 5k.
Agreed. Between my creaky old lady walk this year, and my picture stops, it took me over an hour. There were plenty of people finishing behind me.
Just signed up for the 1/2 marathon. Yay!!! I've been trying to run this race for 2 years now & it always sells out. Now I need some guidance with lodging...
Is it better to stay at one of the WDW parks hotels?
Has anyone stayed at a nearby hotel? If so, what was your experience like as far as getting back & forth from the park? Was the price/hassle worth the money saved?
Yes. It is absolutely better. It's all I know, but I wouldn't want to change it. I know some people prefer to drive, so they don't have to wait for a bus, but that's the last thing I want to do.
I should have elaborated. With the crazy-ness of getting to the start line, having transportation provided and NOT having to drive your own vehicle will save you a lot of time and a lot of hassle. And, it's more fun to be at a Disney resort!
Yup. This.
Same boat - I'm in decent shape but I'm NOT a runner (so I say - we'll see what happens!). I can walk a 5k no problem. So, C5K/Galloway is my plan! I will do it. I will run it. I will have fun!
None of us are runners until we are. I had never run a step except by force (in PE) until 2013. Now I've done 2 half marathons, and many 5Ks and 10Ks. You'll have an amazing time.
