2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

.......

2) Is the race women- only? I'd like to ask my best friend to run with me. He loves princesses and is a runner, but the site is a bit confusing.

Thanks! :)

When looking on pinterest at disney marathon running costumes I saw a pic a couple times of a guy in a tshirt and it said "Why are all these princess chasing me?!?" I thought it was cute. :earsboy:

Yes, there are men...just not a lot of them!

Thanks everyone! The first step is actually getting myself out there! If I can start running and work myself up to at least 20/30 min of running a time by July, I'll feel comfortable registering for the race.

FWIW you don't have to run continuously to do a running race. I do run/walk. While I personally am trying to slow down the run so I can run longer, that's because my own particular hips feel better while running and feel terrible while walking (and it has always been like this). If they didn't feel that way I would stick with intervals.

1) Is the race timed? I couldn't find good information on the site- some seem to say that it is and others that it's not! I think a timed race where you have to keep up a certain pace is better for my motivation!

It is.

It isn't.

Either way, dumb rule.

I agree 110%.

I had no idea that Beach club area resorts weren't easy to access for RunDisney races.

You have to take a bus in the morning, but if the run ends at Epcot AND you have a ticket, you can go through Epcot to get back to the hotel.

my cousin and I are plotting the Star Wars Dark and Light for 2017.

Cousin running events are fun. My cousin and I did the 5K, and now she's planning the 5&10 like I did for Princess (and I'm invited, though I might very well do all 3 runs....so then in '18 she's going to have to do them all, too!).

My first time posting since 2008. Not sure if I am starting a new post or accidentally posting this as a reply (help!) Any walkers out there? I'm thinking of registering for the 2017 Princess 10K and Half-Marathon (Glass Slipper Challenge). I've only done one Disney race (back in 2008 - walked a 15K). I walked my first and only half-marathon last November and my pace was under 15 minutes/mile, so I think I can do it. When does registration open up? I heard one rumor that it is 7/12/16 - anyone else heard this?

I think for this one I will be primarily walking due to asthma. Now I will say I can walk a14:30 mile...yup....I am short and my husband tall so I walk fast to keep up with him!

Ariel484 you might be able to answer this...it has been a few months since I used my active.com account to register and I thought there was an option to register another person which for me is DH ? Did something change the past few months ?

Yes, they don't have that option anymore (I know the one you're talking about, I used it for JJ5K in 2013). You and your husband each need a separate Active.com account.

Everyone's posts on this thread inspired me, so I went out and started today! I ran for about 20 minutes (1.67) miles and apparently maintained a pace of 12.4 mph, so not bad! It was a lot of slow walking and then some periods of trying my hardest with running. I'm feeling like I can 100% work up to a race in a year, yay. My legs are hurting now though!

I figured I would have to make a separate account for my oldest daughter (18), will I have to make a third account for my 12 year old?

Way to go! You have a great time already with walking and running!:yay:

Awesome job!!

The 18-year-old yes, the 12-year-old no - there's an option for your account to either register yourself or someone under 18. :)

Hi everyone. I'm hoping to run a race next year with my best friend. We are not sure if we will try form10K or the half yet. Guess we will see where we are when it gets closer to registration. I am a very beginner runner and she is an out of practice never very serious runner. It would also be her first trip the the World. :cheer2::banana:

Not mine though- and I'd love to be her tour guide. I am 3 weeks into my couch to 5 K and had my best run yet yesterday. I am also finding running to be great for increasing my fitness level for my primary activity, horseback riding. I've been doing hunter/jumpers since I was very young.

Reality is setting in that I may not be able to do this weekend and will be even more bummed out if it is Snow White since she is my favourite. I promised to take my oldest DS to WDW alone for the Christmas party this fall. Don't think I can swing both unless our dollar improves alot in the next few months. Oh I wish I was rich. LOL

Thanks for all the helpful responses! Two questions (which might be dumb).

1) Is the race timed? I couldn't find good information on the site- some seem to say that it is and others that it's not! I think a timed race where you have to keep up a certain pace is better for my motivation!

Thanks! :)

My boyfriend ran the 5k & 10k with me this past year & we saw a good number of men runners. Obviously it's a lot more women, but he didn't feel out of place at all.

Let's talk... resorts! Are there Moderate or Deluxe level resorts that you recommend to stay at for the races? We'll be booking our bounce back offers for these resorts so we're ready for Princess and Dark Side next year.

I had no idea that Beach club area resorts weren't easy to access for RunDisney races. Enlighten me. Tell me where the best place is to stay :)

I've stayed at Caribbean Beach for PHM in 2015 & 2016. Loved it! Buses were always running (to the Expo, to the Parks, and to/from Start & Finish line). The resort itself is so nice where you feel like you are in the Caribbean - it has a great feel overall. It is big. Depending on where you are (different sections of the resort) can be further away from the Food Court/Restaurants/main pool. but there's an internal shuttle that goes around often. I love it and will also stay there if I'm doing a trip without my son, especially for a rD weekend.

Plans have (maybe...kinda...sorta?!) changed! I wasn't planning on 2017 since we were going to do a family vacation in November. Well DH said he would rather wait until our son is a little older. So I'm going to push for 2017 PHM weekend if we don't end up going all together. Glass slipper??! Or just the 5k and 10k? We'll see!
