We're planning to book DCL's Westbound Transatlantic cruise next fall (2016), but was thrown for a loop with the itinerary. With going to Nova Scotia and NY, I assume it's likely we won't be able to/want to use pools like we would be able to do if it was taking a southern route. Will someone please point out a reason I can get excited about the itinerary? I'm just unfamiliar with what there will be to do and see on at these ports. I guess it would be fun to see NY/NY.
We originally planned a RCL WB TA this October with another line and were so excited about it, but cancelled it after a shorter cruise with RCL realizing we really only like Disney. But the DCL TA was already too full to accomodate us. It was a southern route or at least ended in Florida.
Thanks! Still planning on booking it, but having second thoughts.

I'm with you - we're booking the wbta and were thrown for a loop as well!!! However I can say that, having visited Halifax and Sydney on past cruises I am thrilled to go back! In all my time cruising they have by far been two of my favorite ports - there's plenty to do, the people couldn't be nicer, and it's a nice change of pace from Caribbean ports. Plus sailing into nyc is supposed to be very cool so we're excited about that too. I am bummed there won't be a castaway cay stop, but I know Disney is going to make it an amazing cruise!!

True! I'm sure it will be an amazing cruise! I'll have to research Halifax and Sydney. Originally we were hoping to do a little WDW after the cruise, but NY will be fun. The kids have never been there.

I was looking at other cruise line itineraries for WBTAs, and even though I liked some of their itineraries better (more European ports), we kept coming back to not being able to beat the DCL experience. Definitely excited for this cruise!

We are booked on this cruise. I think the only downside could be the weather when we get close to Canada. It's going to be cold. I wouldn't have booked if it was going to CC and PC.... been there done that. We haven't been to Nova Scotia, and it's been a long time since I've been to New York.

My kids have never been to New York, and I think they'll enjoy it. We're planning on spending a few nights in Barcelona before the cruise, and a few nights in either Paris or Rome. I looked at other cruise lines. There are itinerary's I like a lot better. I'm just afraid there wouldn't be kids on the other cruise lines.

We were originally going to do the 7 night med, but this is more days and less money. I'll still get to see Barcelona and Rome plus Canada and New York. I think this is going to be a very nice cruise.

The best part is the 5 hour flight home instead of 14 hours.

That itinerary is appealing to me as we live just 20 minutes from where the ship docks in NY and it would be a quick trip home...no second flight to worry about.

When we docked in NY on the recent EBTA we did the Intrepid Air/Space Museum which is literally next door to where the Magic docks. It is half a block to walk to. DCL did not sponsor any excursions there but we booked our own tickets and really enjoyed it. We live so close to the city yet we had never visited the Intrepid. It is any easy trip from the ship. Very interesting museum as it is an aircraft carrier. It has the Concord, the space shuttle, a submarine and various aircraft. We had a great tour guide.

Here are some pics showing us pulling into the pier and the Intrepid right there and some from the Intrepid of the Magic so you can see how close it is. The space shuttle is in the covered building and I believe has a separate charge.

I think this would be a great option for your visit to NYC.

And above pic is sunrise when we were nearing NYC. It was beautiful out.

And the Statue of Liberty from the ship.

Nice pics MJ. I wish we would have had the time to visit the Intrepid but we had another excursion planned.
