When staying at a deluxe the room discount is almost always better. But in situations like ours, free dining for 4 adults at a mod is a MUCH larger savings.

I have 2 kids (and an under 3) and 2 adults at WL and the room discount would have to be at I believe around 45% for me to save more than I would with free dining! I can't imagine how much I love t would be if my kids were Disney adults. I'm sure it's just because WL is on the cheaper end of the deluxes but I wish I got more of a room only discount than free dining it's so much easier!

My daughter is getting married there in October. We got a dismal 10% room discount with the room block for the wedding. We are hoping that they have free dining or at least a better room discount than what they offer Brides. Just more info to add--the wedding is Oct 12. She has room blocked for the week starting Sunday and ending on Saturday at French Quarter, Wilderness Lodge and Pop Century. So that may pull those resorts from a discount. But when the discounts come out and our guests all book other resorts it may drop them back in. If no discounts show up a good amount of our guests will book off site so that may open them as well.

Of September? Yes, usually all of September is included. If you're talking about any other month, probably not.

that week has been excluded from FD the last 2 years.

2014 October black out dates were: Oct 4-25
2015 October black out dates were: Oct 3- 24

It's not advised to pre-book hoping for FD. Sometimes the Resort that you booked will not even be included with the rooms that have FD. Then you have to go through the trouble of changing the resort.

Just wanted to comment on your post. So your daughter is getting married on Wednesday? We will be at the Magic Kingdom that day celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary.
We were married Oct. 12, 1991!

DVC reservations are never eligible for free dining or other promotions.

If you want to make a reservation at a DVC property, you can do that with the free dining promotion with a few exceptions. However, you can not apply the promo by redeeming points or renting points. This must be made as a resort reservation package.

I'm following along to quietly cheer everyone on! We got FD last year for December and it was great! I am hoping to pop back in to WDW for a quick trip this summer but we all won't be back until 2017. It's a little early to be watching for FD for 2017, but the FD watch thread has become one of my favorites. Good luck everyone! Wishing you lots of Pixie Dust!

No one really knows. And if it hits September it may not be at every resort. Given the ADR window is wide open now for September you may want to reserve some things.
