2016 AP Magic Bands - are they being shipped w 2016 slider?

Anyone order AP magic bands yet? Are they shipping with a 2016 AP Slider?

DH and I activated our AP certificates on our mid-December trip and they were shipped to our house about 2-3 weeks later. The slider is orange and does not have a date on it - just says "Passholder" with a pic of Mickey. These are our first AP's so I don't know if that's different than before.

What is the purpose of the AP MB slider? Do they have to be worn to get AP benefits? I don't really want to wear the extra piece of bulk on my wrist.

No real purpose at all
Officially you still have to show your card and ID to get the discount
In all my purchases of had one CM use the slider as proof

They just show you have an AP, kind of like the DVC slider. I've always had to show my AP card to get a discount.
