Are there any special events for children or suitable for children?

Not really. There is alcohol involved in all events and is one of the main focus of the meals. Some of these events move at a slower pace and unless your child enjoys fine dining, they will get bored. Some people do bring their children to Party of the Senses or the 3D Dessert Discovery, but it seems the children that really enjoy it are the foodie in trainings. Think of those as a cocktail party with many food and alcohol booths.

The food & wine events are neither planned nor intended for children. This is why they charge full price for all attendees. Substitutions may no be available but maybe not. In some instances the only alternate beverage offered will be water.

Some events are fine for teens or Tweens with an interest in the culinary arts. But I'd advise careful consideration before signing young children for events. I remember seeing a child at a dining event (other than Party for the Senses) only once. She was well behaved but obviously bored.

Children are not permitted at the beverage or mixology seminars.

Is anyone trying the Dining through the Decades: a Tribute to Walt Disney? It sounds interesting but I don't know what to expect. My dh asked "What if Walt's favorite food was hot dogs?"
I think it could be interesting, but I think it will sell out fast since it is only one night.

I would love to do this event but its scheduled on my check out day

If airline change fess weren't so high, I'd make an attempt to book it and stay an extra day.

I have read through some of this thread, but not all, so please forgive me if this has been asked. Our last day in The World is F&W opening day, and I imagine it will be super crowded. However, I have read that the day before is "soft opening" day, and the booths may be open with food available. Would we be able to enjoy the food without the crowds if we went Thursday afternoon?

Yes this is true there is a CM "soft opening" the Thursday before the event actually starts and though its call a CM event anyone can get food at the booths. Though they don't have the quantities on hand that they would normally do as its a soft opening. We done the soft opening every year and its the least amount of crowd I've ever seen at F&W

We did the special Scotland event last year, and it really struck me as an adult affair - didn't see any kids there. Our kids are going to be 8 and 9 and watch the Food Network EVERY DAY!! This year we've booked some culinary demos for all 4 of us and we'll see how that goes.

My two cents is like with everything else where kids are concerned, it depends on the kids. My 9yo will sit through a meal in a fancy restaurant and discuss the balance of sweetness and acidity in a dish (too funny, btw). He'd certainly be fine at the 3D Dessert Party -- don't think anyone can give a minimum age that applies to all kids (except no admittance, obviously, at alcohol only events!).

Hello,

I have plans on trying to book the 3D Disney Dessert Discovery event. I was reading that the event takes place from 8-9:30PM. Does it really only last an hour and a half?

For those of you that have done it in years past, is it worth it and are you able to enjoy everything in that short amount of time? I am also planning on trying to book the Sweet Seats so that will give us an extra 15 minutes.

We have done PFTS before and I know we had an ample amount of time there but I think we had 3-4 hours.

Can you book the Wine View Lounge or Reserved Seating for the PftS with Disney Visa card tomorrow morning or is that only available for booking on July 31?

IF it turns out to be the same as last year (and so far it is shaping up to be) then you can book anything tomorrow except some of the signature events which may have capacities under 20-25 guests. That includes reserved seating for the large events, Wine View Lounge or Sweet Seats, and most likely reserved seating for the Walt Disney dinner event on 10/24.

However, slots for each event will be in short supply for the pre-booking, and most of the slots for all events will go on sale Thursday.

It really should be emphasized that they will not sell out any events in full tomorrow. They've only got a few slots available for prebooking for each event. If you are told tomorrow that an event is sold out, you can try again on Thursday. You might also have the bad luck to get a CM on the phone who does not know what they're doing. That will cut down significantly on your odds of getting events.

I'm certainly not the person to ask about it, I went once when it was first offered and I didn't much like it then. I'm not into desserts though.

I just saw a review this weekend that trashed it On my phone and can't find it to link. But the basic statement was that one whole table was flavored popcorn and the drink options were mainly flavored vodka

The review also said the other deserts were only so so. I recall lots of complaints about the popcorn.

This may not necessarily be considered a bad thing, though.

I suppose some thought it was a ripoff offering popcorn.

As I mentioned, I didn't much like the event but consuming vast quantities of dessert is not my thing. I probably would have preferred popcorn. I did like the large variety of alcoholic beverages available. I did see someone post that there was too much "hard liquor" and I assume that person would have preferred wine, or beer. I don't recall them having any beer at all.

We have been many times and to Kevin Dundon's other special events through out the year. I feel it is one of the best values for the money. It is one of the least expensive Signature dinners offered. It is not typical Pub food if that's what you are thinking. The atmosphere, the entertainment and the delectable food are always top notch.

What are the things you want? There are a few things that will sell out almost immediately, but last year I got everything I wanted even though it took more than 2 hours and 3 phone calls to do it. This year I want even fewer events, so I'm going to try and get through tomorrow for the Visa prebook.
