2014 DL Avengers Half Marathon Weekend 11/14-11/16!!!

I'm passing on this race but DH is going to do the 1/2. I've just got to sign him up.

Any thoughts on if the Christmas decorations will be up by then ?? (We're doing this instead of coming down for Candlelight) Christmas time usually starts right around Veteran's Day so I'm hoping it will have begun by then.

my Dh and i were talking. I was saying i could afford to get the 45$ cheer thing. But it says reserved viewing location , so if i got this for my DH, would my son be able to sit with him? we don't need two blankets or shirts or clappers. I just thought it may be fun for my son to use the clappers and cheer for mama.
any one ever do this for there family?

Not sure about problems w/ your son sitting by your husband, but you could email to see if that'd be ok. Also, if the course is like the DL course in Sept and you're looking for them to be at the finish, it's really not that necessary unless you want all the extras. If it is like that course, the finish line is along the servcie road b/w the DLH and ESPN Zone, and there's plenty of room to watch w/o having to buy the package. Not sure how it works if the finish is in DCA though if the package is required to be in the park by the finish line.

I'm thinking/hoping everything will be up by then. I thought it was around Veteran's too; either the Fri before or that Mon. I can't remember if IASW has a later opening date or if it's a go by then too.

I'm sitting here watching Thor 2 with my roomie who is a huge Hiddleston fan-girl (she'll probably put Avengers on next) and I know she's not interested in any runDisney events but I told her she could live vicariously through me if I did sign up for one and help me make my costume (one of her favorite things to do). So I may just sign up for something after all. But the $195 for a half I'm not sure completely invested in is a lot to take in. Maybe just the 5K this time? Now to contemplate what to do (if I were to actually go through with it).

No note needed. :goodvibes And some people will run at all costs ~ last weekend at Princess, I passed a girl that was 5 days out of surgery from a gall bladder removal! She had a sign on her back to people passing her wouldn't bump her. I have no idea how she did it or if she finished, but she was close to mile 5.

Wow- hope she made it !!
But I get it wanting to try and do it. I guess I am now one of those "run or hobble at any costs" people....I am SO glad I did and finished Tink this year with a torn meniscus. I wasn't sure what would happen during the race but I was OK , even pushed it and I'm glad I took the chance to do it and I am not a rise taker by any means. Now I am just waiting for my PT and surgeon to get the ok to start running again. Boy I am missing it.

I'm w/ you, not really into the theme 100% either. But it gives me a chance to get both C2C medals this year, so that's cool. It'll probably be more of a 1 and done for me unless the course is different.

Wow- hope she made it !!

I totally forgot about your knee! How's it going w/ the rehab? Glad you were still able to finish Tink. Nothing can stop that quest for legacy, right? :goodvibes Are you able to run DL or register if you are able?

Thanks :wave2: It's going...but not as quick as I would like. It's only been 7 wks but it's been a LONG 7 wks. Surgery recovery was difficult and humbling. In my mind I was going to be good as new in just a few days--not the case. We got back from Hawaii a couple of days ago and I was still able to enjoy our trip. PT is difficult and my PT is a "Ironman" so she gets the wanting to run again...maybe just not wearing wings or a costume. (She probably thinks I'm strange but oh well :lmao:)
Yes I'm doing the DL 1/2 with DH. I just can't wait to get running again. :hourglass
How was WDW Glass Slipper Challenge-was it everything you thought it would be??

I'm in! :cool1:

I'm hoping my daughter is in with me.

DH was out of town this weekend and he is NOT into Marvel things at all. So I took the opportunity to watch Thor 1 and 2 and the Avengers! I'm all ready now! :rotfl2:

I'm glad its going....wish it was going faster for you though. You'll be back to it soon with a PT like that though!

Sorry PT is bad. Hopefully it'll get better soon, especially w/ being able to run. Glad you're still able to do DL. Hawaii sounds relaxing and fun! :beach:

GSC was good. Humid like last year, but we had heavy fog and clouds for the 10k and 1/2 which helped. For the 5k, there was a little breeze on the backside of EPCOT and that was awesome! I have to figure out the humidity thing for next Jan though. I don't know if I would've finished the 1/2 if it was sunny out w/ the humidity ~ I couldn't take in gu, luckily I threw in some chomps which was needed. By mile 8 even taking in water wasn't happening, but part of that was my fault b/c I had Dasani instead of Smart H2O. It was weird, I've had Dasani before but run w/ Smart H2O and I think that was part of it. 5k was good and fun, early wake-up by our time standards and lack of sleep caught up to me for the 10k, and aside from my stomach the 1/2 was good. I'm glad I did it though, like the medals a lot, but it's not an every year race for me.

When you ran it last year, did you find some of the runners weren't... princesses? :rotfl: I had more than a couple stop dead where they were to take pics or decide to stretch or bump you and not say anything. So that was kinda new.

Decisions, decisions! I did the Tinker Bell 5k, 10k and half in January, then the Glass Slipper challenge in February, and I'm signed up to do the DDD with my sister before she deploys. I was going to beg DH to let me do Wine and Dine and get that second C2C, but Avengers half is soooo amazing that even the draw of the C2C is not match! Poor Wine and Dine.

I wonder if the characters at the pasta in the park will be Avengers. I emailed runDisney and they said that the event isn't fully planned yet so they can't answer the character question. What should I do if there isn't a definite answer by registration? It'll be easier to get my husband to be onboard if I fly to DL Saturday, do the half Sunday and return Sunday night. HOWEVER the awesomeness of the first Disne/Marvel character dining would be enough to make whatever challenges to getting DH to agree worth it. And if I'm arriving Friday I should just o ahead and do the 5k in addition to everything else as well and just make it a total Super weekend. Any thoughts? Is it worth the gamble to sign up to go Friday-Sunday?

Wow sorry to hear about your gu troubles but glad you finish!! I love smart water--especially at the park. I remember I was STARVING last year and I ate my usual like I always to, maybe even a extra bagel too. I think the humidity just makes everything worse. Yes...I noticed a few "princesses" that really were just rude and far from friendly. I had the same issues as you did. DH really noticed the difference in the chEAR sections-people were not as friendly as they are out here. (Again that was just his experience) One key thing we did was get on Florida time before leaving CA. We started a week before, and it was very challenging, but it made the time difference and early mornings much easier.

Hawaii was fun and not humid. I swear it's been more humid in Anaheim lately when we've been. :sad2: Maybe check out particular running tops that are REALLY breathable etc for humid conditions. That's the only thing I can think of for Jan. but then watch a cold front will develop or something like that.

Unless her son is under 3, he would need his own cheer package.

When the 5K has finished inside the park, there have been spots near the finish line for people to watch. Then, when the race is over, they sweep the park.

Here are some I took at the 5K Tink in 2013...

I say both, but I'm a total enabler. :) I really like the 5ks ~ they're a lot of fun and have great photo ops. Plus, at least for me, taking pics Sat means not having to bring anything extra for the 1/2.

Good idea about changing early. Usually I don't have a problem flipping times, but for some reason this trip, my body just wasn't adjusting. I did find a shirt for Jan! :goodvibes It's this really really lightweight weight Nike one. I think it'll be perfect for the full, but like you said, they'd probably have cold weather. :rotfl2: I know in '10 or '11 they had sleet! But I like cold weather so that would be good. Somebody in a running group mentioned baby food for someone having problems taking in gu so I might try that out for W&D to see how it goes out there. And as much as I hate treadmills, I think I might try some long runs, or as long as I can go w/o getting kicked off, at the gym where it'll be warmer and more humid to get me ready.

Glad Hawaii was fun and good weather! I hear you about the weather here. All the winter weather is just hitting from the mid-west and out and we have nothing. We were in LA/Santa Monica this past weekend and it was record highs! Sunday afternoon it was mid-80s, at the beach, and they said this coming weekend would be more of the same. :confused3 I'm running up in the city this weekend and it's supposed to be warm up there too on Sun! Plus side is that there's no fog, so I'm hoping I can get a few good shots across the bridge.

Glad you found a shirt for Jan !! Did you visit the park when you were in LA over the weekend? I'm really missing the park. The weather sounds great. Are you doing a race in the city ?? Wishing you a fog free time.

No parks. Just LA and Santa Monica, although driving down Sat morning we were playing who's going to DL. :lmao: I'm missing it too and my next trip won't be until Avengers. :( I was going to go at Halloweentime and maybe 1 of the parties, but then the race came up so I'm going then.

Yup, it's race weekend in the city! Just a short one though, it's the Across the Bay 12k. We start just on the other side of the bridge in Marin, cross the bridge and end in the Marina/Piers area. It looks like fun and the shirt is nice, plus it's running across the bridge facing the city, how can you pass that up?

If anyone's thinking about costumes/raceday ideas already, I saw some guys in Under Amour shirts this weekend. They have Thor, Iron Man, Superman, Spiderman and Batman. I checked online and it's only guys shirts and they're compression but thought I'd throw it out there for people.

That'll do it! Watching the movies and talking about it with my roomie got me all fired up for doing it, but then I remember I'm leaving one of my jobs soon and wont have the extra $$$ and really shouldn't. Darn Disney!!

Just a heads up before reg opens and plans are made ~ disney just announced bib pick-up change starting w/ DL in Aug. You have to pick up your own bib, no one else can pick it up for you.

Is there a link to where they made the announcement? I hadn't heard anything.
