2014 Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Weekend ** Check-In ** Updated 7/29 with Corral Info

Ok, so I just checked the extended forecast for the race weekend and it's supposed to be in the 90's! I'm freaking out because I always get a horrible headache when I run in really hot weather. What happened to nice California weather? I think Maryland stole it, we've had the coolest summer ever out here.

Try not to panic. As someone has already pointed out, those extended forecasts aren't very reliable.

Even if it is hot though, there's nothing anyone can do about it. If you know you're likely to get headaches, bring your headache pills, hydrate, and just do the best you can :goodvibes

So is Friday @ 2pm the confirmed meet time? If so, perhaps we can post it on the first page of this thread and on the other thread?

Okay so in general you can easily just take whatever the high is (which is what I'm assuming you mean when you say 90s forecast) and subtract a good 10-15 degrees off of it. And that's your actual starting temperature for a race allowing for a few degrees for humidity. It does 80-90 something at race start. At most you'll see 70s, if were really lucky and the temperature somehow drops high 60s (early extended forecast on one site shows 78 for 10k morning and 84 for half so it's not completely out of the realm of possibility but it also depends on humidity factor). I have seen it reach 80 at race end (Disneyland 2012 I'm looking at you, I consider 12 worse then 13 actually as far as weather). Fingers crossed for good weather.

As for that last part. -scratches head- Fun fact actually according to a friend who is local to the area Labor Day weekend onward (or somewhere around there) is usually one of the hottest times of the year for Southern California. It's the reason why she won't run this race again. Doesn't want to fight the heat.

Welcome to the desert that is SoCal! I've only lived here for 2 years, but even before that I knew from my vacation experiences that the end of August, September, and the beginning of October have been hands down the hottest months of the year and when we've been most likely to hit the triple digits in my experience.

It is. I was meaning to get it up on my days off this past week but my dental surgery left me in more pain than I anticipated :( Working on it now.

The current plan as it stands is 2 pm @ Trader Sams/Tangaroa Terrace on Friday 8/29, unless anyone has an objection to meeting there that early. No drinks for me as I'll be on my way to work directly after, lol.

How do we find each other? I've never been to Trader Sams so I am not familiar with the layout. This is my first meet up, too!

Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam's share a porch/dining area, and at the base of the stairs leading up to the two they have an outdoor fireplace with some benches and chairs and such. This sounds like a great place to me for the meet. And then we can head up to TT&TS for anyone wishing to get food/drinks

Hey folks, Do you mind if I ask if many of you are planning to stay through the whole first week in Sept? I'm trying to get a sense of crowds that week and the impact the race may have. Thanks! Good Luck on your races!!

Nope, I leave on Monday :(

Touringplans shows crowd levels starting Sept 1: Mo - Su as 4, 1,1,1,1,2,3 !!!!! Can't get any better than that!! Have as blast!!! :)

All packed and ready to leave! I am flying to Northern California tomorrow and spending a few days up there (with a short race thrown in for good measure!). Then down to Anaheim! Can't wait!

See you at the meet! I am also volunteering at the Expo Thursday AM and the 5k Friday EARLY AM.

I'm scared to ask, but... what does TP show as crowd levels for Saturday and Sunday

Uh I should probably put a disclaimer in front of this: TP in the past can be a bit off on their crowd levels at Disneyland. And I think someone hasn't checked their dates and realized that that weekend is Labor Day weekend. Because they are showing a 2.5 and 2 for Disneyland and DCA on Saturday. And 3.2 and a 3.9 for Sunday for the respective parks on Sunday.

And yeah I've done Disneyland enough times at Labor Day weekend. The crowd level isn't that low. I'm not good at rating so I'm not sure what I would rate it at. But a 3 max? Noooo.

Actually correction DCA jumps to 6.5 on Monday. That might be more about what I would describe it as. It's not extremely crazy but its still crowded in the parks. But yeah I disagree with them on the below 5 assessment for the rest of the weekend.

But to answer your earlier question with school in and most of the Labor Day crowd clearing out after Monday. The parks should be pretty empty after that point (at least in comparison to say a weekend). If its like when I've been there on non high season then expect some pretty short lines. And have a blast!

I just got my work schedule and I am off on Friday so I will be going to Trader Sams to meet people! :cool1:

I just finished my last run this morning - 10 miles and got a pretty medal for my efforts! We are flying out on Monday morning, I am so excited. :cool1:

Add me to the list...i'm doing the DDD and getting my C2C medal from doing the DW Half in January! I'll be in Corral H bib 24561! Can't wait!

Much of Orange County and San Bernardino County and even parts of Los Angeles County don't start school until after Labor Day. A good portion have started but there still may be a good amount of locals around the parks unless they are blacked out.

Does anyone have any good spectator info? I have friends who want to come cheer. They aren't buying a package, don't have park tix and one is handicapped. Where is the best spot for them to cheer?

Thanks ;)

Very cute designs. So, is that "I Did It" shirt available after the race or do people usually buy those up front? Do they sell out?

Thanks so much for the info! So Saturday is predicted to be a bit less busy than Sunday? I'm planning on visiting one of those days and deciding when to go :)
Wondering if the races will be affecting normal park operations?
