Blue skies Thank you!

You are very welcome! :goodvibes Upon reviewing my multi quote..which sometimes confuses the heck out of me...:crazy2:..lol...I realize that I credited Tom with responding to your post..when it was Maddie's Nana...oops...my apologies Maddie's Nana........ also wanted to say to how very nice it was of you to take the time to say thank you for the info and good wishes :goodvibes ...all too often people forget simple art of good manners....:thumbsup2 You obviously have not...:)

Going to the previous posts about the path/bridge. I asked the question on the transportation forum before I posted the original question on this thread and boy I wish I never mentioned it on there! I think they may be transportation police or something :scared:. It's obviously a very touchy subject.

Oh no!!! So sorry that that happened to you... I tend to stay close to home here on the boards...lol..and ask most of my questions right here..Thankfully lots of nice peeps....:grouphug: or over on the CL thread....also a very nice place to "visit"...lol...

It amazes me how GRUMPY people can be when discussing the happiest place on earth. Come on peeps, there are bigger issues to be grumpy about than that!

Tom

:thumbsup2

I'm beyond excited to say that tomorrow we will be going to Disney for our first ever stay at VGF! I can't believe 11 months since booking have gone by this quickly, it feels like just yesterday I was getting excited about booking my ADRs! We have a couple of GF meals planned as well to take advantage of the resort. We will be eating at the Grand Floridian Cafe, Citricos, and Victoria & Albert's QVR! I'm thinking about doing a trip report when we get back to help with my Disney Vacation Being Over Depression. We check in late tomorrow but hopefully in time to grab a drink and watch some fireworks.

:dance3: Woo Hooo!!!!! doing the happy dance for you...Looking forward to hearing all about your trip...Have a Grand time!!! :wizard:

~ For my fellow shoppers...I think that there might be a few around here...:cool2:....there is is a very cool app now available for smart phones called Shop Disney Parks...lots of cool stuff available...including "authentic WDW merchandise"..:thumbsup2

Hope that all of my fellow GF fans have a wonderful Wednesday! :earsgirl: shopping GF Gal....

I've been writing clues for treasure hunts/scavenger hunts for years for my kids, neighbor kids, etc...I hope Maxie is good at following the clues to find her Mickey! The GF is a big place;)

:tiptoe: ...lol....I think that she might be....and she sure loves that darn Patriot Mickey........lol.....

MickeyNut Totally understand! And I had a sneaky suspicion that your first choice would be at Poly/CR split...but I still stand by my recommendation of a GF/CR split!

Thank you everyone for the comments :)

Thank goodness I am not the only one who thinks that people On other threads take things too seriously.

I Think I will stick to this thread and the UK forum in the future.

I have well and truly learnt my lesson not to post anywhere else!

:thanks:

The GF is runner up if the CR doesn't pan out, but my oldest is already giving me a hard time about doing a split that taking away the Poly is NOT an option .

You're definitely not the only one ;). It took me awhile after joining the Dis to learn which threads/posts to stay away from :rolleyes1.....but after being here for quite a few years, I finally learned which ones not to comment on...LOL.

We've gotten to Septmeber! In the month I will go to Disney!!! Yay yay yay! Cannot wait for my I eat GF stay and we will be doing our first club level stay. I'm beyond excited. But first I have an impossible 4 weeks of of work ahead, and I have to move my office unexpectedly which is going to be a big headache, and we all have really severe colds, turning into sinus infections. Sigh. But at the end of it all we will be at the GF! Cannot wait!!! Okay thanks for letting me share my excitement. And stress. If you're the praying type, send some my way! :)

How exciting!! Sorry about the stress of moving your office...you will need a vacation after that. You will love CL at the Grand. Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, I am good at following clues...I will find Patriot Mickey! I hid him in the safe in February so someone...who shall remain nameless... didn't do bodily harm to him. :p

Ah yes, the transportation board...they can be brutal, but I have learned a lot about car rental codes and discounts and the ins and outs of South West Airlines. Better just to lurk there though.

Woohoo!! Enjoy your stay. The villas are beautiful.

Yay my multiquote is working today:yay:

Although...sometimes it is kinda' fun to see how angry some people get about certain subjects! As an observer it can be fun to sit back and enjoy the "show" popcorn::

Thanks to you both. We are starting to feel a bit better. And we are that much closer to my stay. I CANNOT wait. The next 2 weeks will be insane but nothing we can do about that.

I agree! Some threads/posts are entertaining. It is sometimes funny to watch because it's usually over stupid things...lol. I have found myself many times shaking my head wondering what some people are thinking .

I can't believe it's already September!

Where did the time go??? It seems like summer was just starting (although it's definitely been summer weather here with temps in the mid 90s :faint:) and now there's only 4 months left in the year....it'll be Christmas before we know it .

We are starting to feel a bit better. And we are that much closer to my stay. I CANNOT wait. The next 2 weeks will be insane but nothing we can do about that.

Glad everyone is starting to feel better! The next 2 weeks will fly by and you will be arriving at the GF before you know it :goodvibes.

I hope the next two weeks don't go by too fast! My DD16 will become DD17 on September 15th, and I want her to be 16 as long as possible...even though she's been saying she's 17 all summer, LOL! I can't wait to get back to GF so that things can be like they used to be...the DDs become princesses again and even the older DD likes spending time with the family...gotta love Disney for keeping everyone young (including parents)!

A club level story:

So, dd and i were coming back from the park one night and she decides she wants a strawberry daiquiri to bring to the lounge while we have desserts. She stopped at the courtyard pool bar and they said "sorry, we are closing up but try the beach pool bar". She walks to the beach bar and calls me from there and says "no daiquiri this late:sad:!!!

At that time i was chatting with a cm in the lounge so I ask" where can dd get a daiquiri?" He said "to go to Mizners." So 10 minutes later dd walks in empty handed. He asks her "where is your daiquiri???"

She says" i tried both pool bars, mizners and even Citrico's but no one had any.":(

So he calls narcoossee's and they said they had it. So off she goes AGAIN!!! When she got back he asked her a few questions( i was sitting with my desserts, lol). She comes over to the table and tells me he credited our account for the drink:drinking1:thumbsup2

People wonder why us regulars keep going back, thats why!!!!

Sorry if this question has been repeated but does anyone know how early the refill station at the pool bar opens?

I'm just trying to wonder if I have to walk to gasperillas in the morning for coffee or if I can just walk to the pool bar. Thanks!!

DD and I returned home this week after an amazing 8 nights at GF (and 2 nights at Poly). This was our first stay at GF and it won't be our last. DD16, who is a senior, has decided that RPC would make a great graduation trip. DH wasn't with us this trip so I'm eager for him to try it out. He loves the Greenbrier Resort in WV and I think there are many similarities.

As I already posted, the staff, especially the front desk staff and management, truly went above and beyond to make our stay magical. There seemed to be a higher level of decorum and civility. I won't re-post everything I already posted, but after 8 nights, I did have a different overall impression of the GF compared with all the other Deluxes.

Overall, housekeeping was noticeably better. More time seemed to be taken to do a more thorough job. Dusting, for example, is usually sorely lacking at other Deluxes, at least in the rooms. In our room, Big Pine Key TPV Dormer 9445, there was an attention to detail that is often missing from other Deluxes. In fact, at times it was almost too much. For example, everyday, our housekeeper would throw out all the soaps and bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash, and give us fresh ones everyday. I loved that she replenished everything everyday, but keeping the open bottles that were less than half-used would have been fine by us. I've never experienced this at another Disney resort.

The hallway to our room, which was at the very end, was always very clean. Room service trays were always removed from the hallway the same day, usually within hours. Many times at other Deluxes, even CL, we've seen trays remain for long periods and they are so unappealing to continuously walk past! The carpet was never dirty, as I've seen at other Deluxes and the railings surrounding the floor near the elevator that overlooks the sitting area on the 1st floor was meticulously cleaned every single day by a man who really took pride in his job.

I loved how the linens were staged daily in wicker baskets outside of each room. The housekeeping carts were tidier than at other resorts and they never impeded the flow of traffic or blocked your door which I appreciated. I also noticed that security would make their rounds on each floor. One, who I thanked, actually admonished a housekeeper who kept the door ajar, rather than locking it. This is a safety issue for both the housekeeper and the guests' belongings. I had never seen security do this at any other resort.

I liked that the quiet pool had a bar, (though I only used it once), most/other quiet pools don't. They also provided a decanter with water and cups which was unique. I even saw an attendant remove "abandoned" towels from chairs so that others could use them. Getting a chair at the quiet pool was never a problem, but it was nice that they were always tidying up after "forgetful" guests.

One thing that was problematic, but is probably moot now that GIG is ready to re-open, there was a lack of drink refill locations. GIG was closed the entire time we were there and there was only one self-service Rapid Refill location at the Beach Pool. However, whenever the pool closed, which was daily due to lightning in the area, they immediately closed the drink refill station. I don't know why it couldn't remain open, but perhaps it was too close to the pool? A few times I walked over only to discover they had just closed it due to the pool closing and I would then have to go to Mizner's. But, Mizner's only had self-service coffee, tea and milk and you had to ask for Sprite, Coke or Diet Coke. For those who only drink low calorie decaffeinated beverages, there was no option at Mizner's, so when the Beach Pool was closed, I didn't have any refills. We usually stay CL, but since we weren't this vacation, this did become a bit annoying. Not having a QS was also inconvenient, but it was easy to head over to Poly or CR instead.

We weren't impressed with the two Signature Dining locations, but we did like the GFC for breakfast and dinner. We had consistently good meals and service there.

The rooms let in a lot of noise from everywhere. We could hear and feel pretty much everything and we didn't even have a connecting door nor anyone above us. If the next door neighbor closed their door, our headboards would shake and the mirror over the desk would rattle. Every word spoken in the hallways came through. It was actually pretty disruptive late at night when guests would come in after park closing. The original resorts like Poly and especially CR, have much better sound-proofing. I'm sure the materials have cheapened over the years and there is less use of concrete or other more costly sound-proofing.

Minor complaint: The laundry within each building was pretty awful. It's literally the size of a closet and if someone is using washer #1 by the door, they will get hit with the door if someone opens it. The washer is literally right next to the door. The two washers were taken when I needed them so I hauled everything next door where I was able to get one washer, though I needed two. I could have waited 30 mins. for a washer in my building, but I was impatient.

The biggest problem was the monorail. It just isn't a reliable and convenient mode of transportation anymore. Unless you ride it at off times like late morning to early afternoon, expect delays and full cars. It was quite frustrating since there is no bus or walking alternative at GF (other than to the TTC). Often the boats are down in the summer due to storms which leaves only the monorail to MK. We were told that they will dispatch MK buses when boats aren't running, but that we might have to ask since it isn't always done immediately. It would be nice if you could take a bus to Epcot because in the morning and at night, the monorails were often delayed and/or completely full upon arrival. We once waited almost 45 minutes to get on the second monorail that came in order to get to CR. The first was filled to capacity, and the second was nearly full. It was always standing room only in the evening and really undesirable. It became a burden to take the monorail anywhere. We noticed that the majority of riders disembarked at MK and the TTC where they boarded trams. It would be nice if there were a resort guest-dedicated monorail, but I don't think that will ever happen.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some details of our stay:o, but I'm going back to multi-quote now and I'll post more photos tonight and tomorrow.

Sorry if this question has been repeated but does anyone know how early the refill station at the pool bar opens?

I'm just trying to wonder if I have to walk to gasperillas in the morning for coffee or if I can just walk to the pool bar. Thanks!!

It opens at 0700, at least while GIG is closed through 9/6:

I was really hoping you would have a better experience with Narcoossee's:( I'm glad they at least got the timing right between your apps/entrees! I will admit that the difference between servers can be huge...at all of the signatures...which can make or break your experience! When we ate at Cali Grill in June, a new server came to our table. When I asked her for the "retro pork/pork old school" that is not on the menu, she immediately went to get us a more experienced server who didn't disappoint! She even brought us out a couple of free creme brûlée desserts when we started talking about Taz and Rachael, two long-time servers who are now married (and still work there)! But even though our experience was awesome at Cali Grill, DH's meal was just ok because he strayed from the usual. It seems that a lot of the restaurants have a few things that they make really well, but their other menu items seem to be lacking. I always get the filet (as does DD16) at Narcoossee's, and it has always been delicious, but I knew you had the filet at Citricos. DH always gets some kind of fish. We ordered "the usual" at Narcoossee's in June and were very pleased. It's a shame people have to be afraid of disappointment if they want to try something new! I hope you at least enjoyed the view!

Yes, timing was great, nothing overlapped. And, you're correct about what a difference the server can make, it's like night and day. A great server can even make up for a so-so meal. As for filets, I posted a CA Grill review on the CR thread. Spoiler alert: fantastic filet! (And Yachtsman Steakhouse has great filets, steaks, too). But, I'm sure you already know that;)

I'm looking forward to your thoughts on Sanaa...haven't been able to convince my kids to try it (or even Jiko for that matter)!

It was our second time at Sanaa and it was just as good as the first. But, it's not fun getting there, even from AK. Our bus arrived half-full, which seemed odd and it was standing room only, but luckily, it's a short trip. I highly recommend the bread service and the view is of course, unique. My apologies to the thread for this being a bit OT…

WDWKOOK - I love the photos! Please keep posting them! I'm glad you were able to switch to the GF, too.

When we feel rushed, we sometimes will order our appetizer and won't order our entree until the appetizer arrives. ;)

That's a smart technique and I'm glad you've enjoyed the photos. I have more to post tomorrow.

Love those pics. Were those early morning pics before or after sunrise? I'm an early morning runner and I'm trying to figure out how early I need to get up to do my run, finish, then get back to the room to grab my camera to take those early morning pics.

Also, did you notice if those lights posts lit enough of the pathway in the early morning where I could see where I'm running? Or would you recommend a headlamp? Thinking of running around 5am.

They were taken at sunrise. I'm almost always up around sunrise on vacation and I love walking around before heading to the gym. It's so peaceful and tranquil. Unlike the path to/from FW and WL, there are lights that illuminate the pathway so you won't need a headlamp. The gym is open 24/7 with your MB/KTTW Card. I used it everyday and it was rarely crowded. Once all the treadmills were taken so I just got on an elliptical until someone was done. It's sorely lacking in weight equipment and has no bathrooms or fans though, (more on the gym tomorrow when I post photos).

Here is the path just after sunrise:

I'm really nervous about your experience with the monorail! Did the random closures seem to happen around the same time - like morning, afternoon or evening? I'm worried about planning around the monorail to get to an ADR (like pre-park opening) and then missing my time because of having to switch to a bus. That would be frustrating!

Isn't the monorail work supposed to be completed by the end of August?

There were scheduled closures of the Express monorail on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This was supposed to end last month, but it may have been extended. There were also closures due to maintenance issues and weather. I think lightning hit it at least once during our stay. One day there were many cars taken out of service on one monorail. We were told the AC wasn't working in those cars so they closed them. They also were preventing some cars from being occupied with MK passengers. We were told they were holding the car open for CR passengers so no one could get on at MK. You know there's a problem when they have to do that. We were in some long lines at CR in the evening.

Kook, Thanks for posting your great pics. Now I'm a little concerned about Citrico's we have it booked for our upcoming trip. I am a plain picky eater and will probably get the filet. As many times as we stayed at the GF this is our first time eating in Citrico's. That is a "Maine" lobster( Any lobster from the northeast is considered a Maine lobster to the rest of the country.) , a little over cooked if it was chewy...that can happen here too.

You're correct about the Maine lobster and also about it being overcooked/steamed.

The transportation has gotten so bad we even drive to the CR from the GF for dinner...and that is just wrong.

That is just wrong, but I completely understand why you do it. Bottom line, they need more buses and more fully operating monorails to accommodate more and more park and resort guests. They had record attendance numbers last year at WDW Resorts/Parks and their transpiration options need to keep up with that.

I LOVE hearing stories like this!!! :) So glad you had a magical, magical time!!

Thank you:)

kook, loved your pics and your story!

we are back from 8 days at the poly and all four of us have decided that we are just GF people.

we stayed at the poly in 2010 and we loved the resort. the kids have been begging to go back to the poly all these years but the price increases just made us stick with the GF (we just feel the GF, while pricier, gave us more for our $$ and that the poly was just becoming overpriced). we finally got that magical labor day deal and booked the poly and were really looking forward to staying there again.

on the second day we went to the GF for an hour and both kids immediately said we should have stayed there instead. dh and i wholeheartedly agreed.

the poly is just not the same as it was before they changed the landscape. it's just not as special. and the GF, well, is still really special.

sigh, next time.

That is so ironic! I even used the same TA deal. Were you not able to switch to GF? I have to say though that we got the exact room I requested at Poly and we loved it - the room that is. This was our third try with Poly and I think it's out of DD's system now. Also ironic is the fact that I let DD choose any resort and she chose Poly. Then she kind of un-chose the Poly and chose GF instead. Kids.

Happy (early) birthday to your DD. Mine turns 17 about a month after yours. Did I just write that???

kook, thanks for your review and looking forward to more of your great pics. At one time the resort monorail was only for resort guests...ahhh those were the days. The monorail is not a perk anymore. :sad2:Getting to and from the MK is now easier from any other area. We get a rental car and drive everywhere now, we would drive to the MK if it was an option. Sorry about your room noise...we have never experienced it, I don't think that is typical.
Your DD has good taste, RPC would make a wonderful graduation trip. One word of warning...once you stay RPC it is hard to go back...it is above and beyond any Disney CL.

@WDWKOOK, thanks for your review. I have followed your CR/BLT thread, your BWI/BWV thread, and most recently your WL/VWL thread until we were switched to GF due to the construction, so it was nice to see your opinions of this resort, especially since it was your first stay there (it will be ours, too). Your reviews are always so detailed, but succinct -- and you always post great pics. Thanks again -- really makes me look forward to our Thanksgiving stay!

We are very eager to try RPC. I've only read glowing reviews, which makes me a bit skeptical. Even with a nearly perfect CL, you still have the occasional not-so-great guest factor. Have you found this to be an issue at RPC? Just curious since I've witnessed some pretty appalling behavior at other CLs and some CLs will enforce the rules and others choose to ignore the behavior, and my RPC questions are for everyone:)

More photos are on the way!

Thank you so much @Music City Mama, I really appreciate your kind comments. I look forward to reading your GF review! Where will you be eating on Thanksgiving Day?

I don't have girls, but have two boys so I do know how you feel about kids getting older. Mine are 22 & 20 and I ask myself every day how they got to that age! It seems like I was just dropping them off at preschool and now they are all grown up and it won't be long before they are out on their own :sad1:.

Glad you had a great stay at the GF! I think RPC for DD's graduation is a great idea. The GF is amazing no matter which room category you have, but RPC is just amazing! :wizard:

As for filets, I posted a CA Grill review on the CR thread. Spoiler alert: fantastic filet! (And Yachtsman Steakhouse has great filets, steaks, too).

I've been back and forth about trying CG, but maybe we need to just bite the bullet and try it. My DH and youngest DS always get filet when we go out at home and we love Yachtsman, so if CG is just as great, it may be worth a try ;).

I couldn't agree more about KOOK and her reviews/pics :thumbsup2.

Hope you have a great time at the GF in November :wizard:.

You quoted Maxie, but I thought I'd pipe in...LOL. I've only stayed 2 others CLs besides RPC so I don't have much to compare it to, but unfortunately, RPC is not exempt from the not-so-good behavior that is seen in other CLs :(. I have witnessed the barefoot guest in the lounge, people laying all over the couches with their shoes on, kids reaching over the table/other foods trying to get a certain food item with their hands, etc. and the CMs not confronting them about it. With that said, even though you do pay a hefty price to stay RPC, it really is an amazing experience overall! The CL CMs are very friendly and are always willing to help when needed. I actually rank WL CL up at the top with RPC (that's how much I love WL CL, which I know is also a favorite of yours ;)).
