Teena... I second what Erika said on the Sudafed and would even add some type of nasal decongestant spray if you could. If you don't have any on you, try to take one even after you land in FL. Keeping the nasal passages as clear as you can will help from everything backing up into the ears! Safe travels.

OK, folks, here's the "inside scoop" on the thermostat...my daughter is a Honeywell bigwig, and I sent her an email asking if this was one of theirs...here's her reply:

"It is – It’s actually an INNCOM thermostat (which we own) – INNCOM is the leader in controls in the hospitality space. It has a sensor (on the stat) and there may be another one in the room so when the room is unoccupied it sets back. Same thing for when you walk into the room – as soon as it picks up movement, it will run to hit the set point and yep, you can turn it up/down/fan just like any other one. They are very nice stats."

So...there you have it....right from the horse's mouth...

We usually put a balloon in the room- the movement from the balloon is enough to keep the AC running!!!!

We have a 9:30pm reservation at 'Ohana...been trying to get an earlier one...no luck yet! Curious about your experience...do they still do the games that late? I heard they do pipe the wishes music in when the fireworks start...and if you have a window seat you can get a good look at the show. Thoughts?

Yes, they do pipe in the music for Wishes! There used to be a lot of trees blocking the view of the fireworks for a lot of tables, but I'm wondering if they took out any trees for the outside seating area at Trader SAMs?? Honestly, I didn't notice when we were there in February. We have always just requested a table with a view of the fireworks (toward the left-hand side of the restaurant). I would check in early (maybe 9?) because we always have to wait to be seated, and you want to make sure you're seated by fireworks time. I hope that's not bad advice because you can never tell how many people will hang around forever to watch the fireworks. I think we arrived early once recently and had luck with it, but you never can tell. They do keep doing the hula lessons/games that late too. It's pretty fun...my DD11 makes sure we all have leis when we leave:) We love the food there, but make sure to save room for the dessert! It's amazing. Also, the meat on every skewer is different...meaning the steak on one skewer may be too rare for your taste or not as tender. You paid for it, so don't eat that piece, and wait for a different skewer of steak. Our bad experience was quite a few years ago, so I wouldn't worry about that...we're always still there during Wishes and they're still bringing around the good stuff:) I can hardly wait! My 'Ohana ressie is for June 1st!! Good luck with trying to get an earlier reservation...I know people cancel because I've got an 'Ohana I need to cancel for our October trip. Maybe we'll see you in the CL lounge before we leave (we leave June 6th) :(

On my way to airport ... Florida here I come. Lily started a normal "cold" on Friday and I normally don't catch stuff from her but on Saturday she was on the sofa with me and talking right close to my face and sneezed and of course I was "soaked" ... so I said to myself, "there is no way you are not catching what she has now" and true to form it started Tuesday night. Not looking forward to flying with all this congestion. Downing Zicam every 3 hours so hopefully that will shorten the duration of this thing.

Can't wait to get back to the Beach Club on Sunday and Monday!!
Hope you feel better soon:)

I've heard that a Bloody Mary on the plane helps cure all colds and viruses, and two of them will cure anything!!

Safe travels my friend!!!

The last time I flew with something similar, when there was also some congestion in my ears, the walk-in clinic advised Sudafed one hour before take-off. Also, try to drink lots of fluids on the flight.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you everyone who liked or commented about my dad's story.

He doesn’t talk a lot about it, and certainly hasn’t shared his emotions about what happened, but my dad is one of the most compassionate and caring men I know, so the incident surely has been a difficult one for him to live with.

I am thankful on the most existential of levels that my dad was not lost on the Thresher. I would not be here if he had been on the sub that day.

I am very blessed to have my dad. The best qualities in me- my strength, my sense of humor and a compulsion to help others- all come from him. Although there are a few things I wish I hadn’t inherited. I’m looking at YOU horrid sense of direction and hoarding tendencies. :lmao:

Now that he is no longer driving he commented that he owes me for all I am doing for him. I shook my head and told him "We are not even close to even"

Thanks for letting me share with you.

:goodvibes:

Your dad sounds like an amazing man!

LOL. Years ago, my husband and I ate a crab Stromboli at a local seafood place. It was really good, but huge, so we shared it. I had a beer. My husband stuck with diet coke. He had some interesting reactions to the food that night and I was perfectly fine. He decided that the alcohol in the beer somehow killed whatever might have been brewing in the crab, so he proceeded to have a vodka and coke (the only things on hand at the time). Which pretty much made him drunk in addition to digestively compromised (if that's even a phrase). Turns out he just had IBS, but he still swears a shot of vodka will ward off food-borne illness. I think he just likes vodka.

@Dispro1 We arrive June 6th :sad1::cool1::sad: the day you leave...sad and happy...it's so sad seeing people packed up ready to leave when we are just arriving...and then when we leave and we are seeing guests just arrive..ooh...I wanna punch em...Grrr!!! J/K LOL!!! :rolleyes1

Anyways...thanks for the tips on 'Ohana. We will be heading over there after a full day at Animal Kingdom, it stays open until 8pm. We have a car so we'll just cruise over to the Poly and hopefully check in around 9pm (ressie at 9:30)...a little worried about all the stragglers waiting for the fireworks taking up tables. We will try to request a table so we can see the fireworks...but that is so cool that we will be able to hear the music!

We should get to the Beach Club around 1pm so maybe we will see each other...just don't punch us!! :rotfl:

Safe travels! Feel better. We have 2:35 Magical Depress. Enjoy BC on Sunday and Monday. We have had a wonderful stay! So sorry we missed you.

oh, I know its too late, but even the airport drugstores carry "Ear Planes" They really do help keep the ear open and helps with the pain dh always used to get, he does take a sudafed right before boarding and puts in the ear planes, they're wonderful!

There was a thread asking about the a/c from someone that was at their resort and was having problems - and a few posters chimed in that the new thermostats that this fix no longer works, but many posted that the balloons worked perfectly.

ETA> link to thread I mentioned:
http://www.disboards.com/threads/over-ride-thermostat.3409804/#post-53652483
and someone posted a picture of the thermostat with those directions

(I will caution people about the balloon trick, one year dd woke up screaming she saw TinkerBelle - we did indeed have a balloon bouncing around, and I am a very light sleeper, and that balloon hitting the curtains, and ceiling would wake me from time to time - when dd woke up I think she did see the balloon bouncing and the light from the outside came through the curtain must've hit the mylar balloon just right - but we were leaving her little gifts in the room calling them "Tinkerbelle gifts" So it was a fun scenario, if a bit 'jarring' from her screaming she saw Tinkerbelle!)

I think we have fast passes at Epcot between 12 and 3 so we will probably miss you:( I promise not to punch you if I see you... But I will be very jealous! I always feel sorry for people when they are checking out because I know exactly how they feel:( I don't think I would be able to deal with the disappointment of leaving if I didn't have another trip on the horizon :)

Wow! So we can get a No Way Jose at the takeout window? SWEET!!!!

@Dispro1 Yeah...we already have our next trip planned, too. We will be driving or flying to California next summer to check out some colleges for DD...we will squeeze in three days at Disneyland for sure! We are sad that the 60th anniversary party will be over, but can't wait to see Cars Land and do the Walk in Walt's footsteps tour...I heard that part of the tour includes visiting Walt's apartment above the fire station in Town Square!! Oooh!!
