*2013* epcot food & wine festival 9/27-11/11

Sure this has been asked, but not by me :rotfl:

It will be our first trip to the world and F&W. we will be going during the day with the entire fam (10) total and at night Mommies only (4) :cool1::cheer2:

Any recommendations for both visits?

Thank you!

This, of course, will depend on your tastes.
We love the Cheddar Cheese Soup and salmon in Canada; I think they are skipping salmon this year though. Argentina has an excellent beef skewer. The chilled coffee with Godiva chocolate in Belgium is dangerous (:worship:). The Kefta Pocket in Morocco is great, and different than your usual fare. Same goes for the Chili Colorado at Terra, hard to tell it was vegetarian. Don' miss the Cheese or Dessert and Champagne booths, they are both worth some time. :thumbsup2 France has a great selection of wines and drinks, and the best beer selection is Germany. I would stay away from the Greek wines. :scared:
Inside the Japan gift store, way back in the distant corner, is a sake tasting bar. That is always a fun place to spend some time.
Hopefully the 'Mommies' will have more than one night out and about! party:

OK Food and Wine geeks... I found the perfect park friendly wine glass (well actually someone else found it and posted it on Facebook in the DVC feed LOL!)

It's an insulated tumbler with a wineglass inside.... Can't post a photo so, click here

http://www.amazon.com/Vino2Go-Merlot-Insulated-Tumbler-Through/dp/B009T8KCV6

(I am seriously considering this, I am a KLUTZ and have spilled red wine on more then one pair of shorts!)

I keep seeing those pop up on Groupon & Living Social. Anyone tested their durability? I think this would be great for F&W!

A lesson taught by those who like the slushies in france. Bring your refillable mug. They won't let you leave Epcot with alcohol, but they don't bat an eye at the Disney mugs.

This! I got stopped leaving Epcot with a drink I'd only just bought. A quick walk around Spaceship Earth so I could pour it into my water bottle, and we were good to head to Wishes!

In my own defense, I drank it while waiting on the monorail lol , no sneaky MK drinking!

In Key West, there is a Food & Wine Festival, where those who buy the full tasting ticket get a lanyard with a small wine glass attached.
So they DO exist.
I've never seen anyone walking around with a full glass, but they do stand with a full glass around their necks while eating when a tasting for food is in the same restaurant as a wine tasting. Don't see too many "wine all over" accidents, for what it's worth.....they seem to work fine for the situation....::yes::

I found a place that sells wineglass holders 3 for under $15.00 Purchased 3 sets LOL I have Tervis Wine glasses and we are going to try this out. I have a monograming machine so I see some cute gifts for my wine friends

We have used wine lanyards over the years. They work quite well. One DD actually worked it with those tiny glasses that the pours come in.

Hey all,
I just decided to head down to for the last weekend since Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is playing on my birthday and I know some folks running the 1/2 marathon. :yay: I've been to the F&W at EPCOT before, but not for the music.

Any things I should know about going to see a band you really care about at this event? Anyone see them play at F&W Festival before? Do people dance? Advice about what time to go get seats if you really want to be up front? How long to bands typically play?

I have been to the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Eat to the Beat Concerts at the F&W before, and more than once. I also managed to catch them locally a few weeks ago. They are GREAT! Glad you can head down for them. You will want to get there an hour early if you want to have a chance of being near the front. There isn't dancing up near the stage, and if you wanted to dance at the back or off to the side, you might be alone, but I don't think anyone would mind.

As a hint, each of the three daily sets, particularly for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is unique--at least for any given day. I haven't watched all sets for multiple days, though, so given these guys repertoire, I would not be surprised if they never repeated a song during their 2-3 days on stage at Epcot.

Have a great time! I am so sad that I am missing them at F&W this year.

At the booths for Flower and Garden, there was a special "Tasting Adventure" set of choices for kids. It might be fun for the mommies to get together and come up with a tasting adventure for the kids, so that they can sample different foods. Maybe make a game of it or some sort of scavenger hunt.

And SHARE!!!!! If you want taste as much as possible the portions should be tiny. We have found that the portions are sharable for at least a taste, among four adults. So, keep that in mind if you want a broad experience.

For Mommy Night (hoo-rah for Mommies)--I highly recommend more of a sip and stroll. Grab something yummy often enough to avoid deleterious effects of the libations, make sure you get to watch Illuminations--and have a designated driver. A bus driver will do. You can always wander out the International Gateway to the Boardwalk Resort, call a Daddy for a ride, or get a taxi if you have no other options.

I think I am going to try that! A couple of stitches to make the opening the right size and, voila, it should work like magic!

Does anyone have a good source for the little trays/plates that have a hook like construct for holding stemware?

The best time I had dancing to one of the EttB concerts was when the Pointer Sisters were playing. There was a crowd on the sidewalk behind the seating area (sound is still great outside the amphitheater seating) dancing and singing away, including the elderly pin booth CM! :cool1: It was incredibly fun.

I would recommend checking out the options in the Chase Lounge (third floor of the American Pavilion this year), if you can get in, for early seating options. Then I would plan on maybe getting a seat for the first show, 'dancing in the street' for the second, and play it by ear for the third. Best of all worlds!

Keep in mind we do not have any confirmation that the Chase folks will be giving out the concert wrist bands this year.... We should know on or about 9/28 or so :)

Oriental Trading Company and Amazon.com are sources, as well as eBay and other online stores. For permanent re-usable plates, search under "melamine cocktail plates with stemware holders". Or just search for "cocktail plates" under Google Images and you will find tons of the disposable variety.

They sold them at the festival last year.

Do those plates really work well with festival wine glasses though? I could swear I read somewhere on here that the wine is sold in short plastic glasses that are pretty different from your standard long-stemmed wine glass, and so wouldn't fit on plates like that?

(I could be completely off, here)

No they don't. The sample glasses are too small.
